The Cannon Fodder NPC Went Too Far [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Dazzling lights swayed wildly, and the noise drowned people like a tide. It was like an out-of-control neon storm, with shadows moving restlessly on the dance floor and a deafening crowd below the stage.
Xia Yu sat quietly at the bar, her smooth long hair draped over her shoulders. Flashing, passionate lights occasionally swept across her face, making her delicate features appear even more striking in the alternation of light and dark.
She frowned slightly, her fair legs crossed, resting naturally on the ground.
She took a small sip of the drink on the table, boredly tapping the surface with her finger, completely out of sync with the bar’s noisy environment.
After consecutively breaking the fingers of several malicious people who thought she was an easy target and tried to get her drunk, the area finally cleared out.
As if an invisible barrier had been drawn, Xia Yu’s surroundings were empty. No one dared to approach her again.
Xia Yu contemptuously glanced at those who were glaring at her but didn’t dare to step forward, giving them a brazen smile.
Even as a princess, she received a proper royal education. She knew a little about the arts of Qin (zither), Qi (Go), Shu (calligraphy), Hua (painting), Li (rites), Yue (music), She (archery), and Yu (charioteering).
Furthermore, she had always been interested in martial arts and secretly put in considerable effort. Her boxing, riding, and archery skills were among the best even among the princes, although they had little use then. While she couldn’t take on a whole group, beating a few useless drunks was easy.
Seeing that no one was bothering her anymore, Xia Yu sat on the chair, bored, swinging her feet and chatting with the system in her head.
“Host, the male lead will be coming out of that room in a moment. The system has marked it for you.”
Xia Yu glanced at the tightly closed door and nodded. It was made of thick solid wood with exquisite patterns, and a small blue light circle right above it stood out conspicuously, looking rather gaudy.
Xia Yu nodded, her gaze unfocused as she stared at the closed door, thinking of something. After a moment, she snapped out of it and casually asked: “I know where the male lead is, but where is the female lead?”
“It’s still early before the mission time starts. Let’s go see the female lead first.”
The system paused for a moment, unable to figure out what the female lead had to do with this mission. When in doubt, follow the host’s command—a lesson passed down by its instructor in the system training course, which must be correct. The little blue ball silently lowered its head and dutifully started searching.
It didn’t know either, but it could hack into the surveillance and check. It was the omnipotent System Lord, after all.
“In that room.” With the system’s cheat-like guidance, Xia Yu crouched low, barely avoiding the patrolling guards on this floor, and skillfully reached a room door.
She grasped the doorknob and tried hard to push it down a few times, but the door wouldn’t open. Xia Yu took a step back, taking in the full view of the door.
A dark card-swipe machine was set into the wall beside the door, flashing a cold light in the darkness.
She shouldn’t have been so lucky. Thinking she could open these high-tech products on her own. Seeing that she couldn’t open it by herself, Little Xia Yu grabbed the system, which was looking at her blankly, obviously not understanding her intention. She softened her voice and asked:
“Good System, do you have a way to hack into the system and open this door?”
The system was startled at first, then suddenly jumped out of Little Xia Yu’s arms, squealing: “Host, what are you trying to do? I’m begging you, let’s just complete this mission properly for once, without any complications, okay?” Xia Yu’s eyes lit up at the sound, meaning the system could do it.
Little Xia Yu put her hands together, making a small cat-begging gesture, and spoke softly:
“System, please show your immense power and let me take a look inside. Just one look. If she is there voluntarily, I will leave immediately, without hesitation. Even if I get accused and arrested, I accept it. If she’s not, how pitiful is she?”
“She’s alone, locked in a dark room. Not to mention, I’m about to anger the male lead. Who knows, after breaking my two ribs, he might not be satisfied and beat the female lead too.”
“We can block pain perception, and if we die, we can return to the original world. The female lead has to live in this world for a lifetime. First, she is sexually assaulted by the male lead while drunk, and then she has to fully endure the male lead’s series of abusive actions described in the novel. Her entire remaining life will be tormented by him.”
“No matter why she is willing to keep the child in her belly, and no matter why she eventually marries the male lead, if she is unwilling right now, then this is wrong. Since we happened upon it, why not save her?”
The system got stuck. The blue light that had burst out due to its resistance weakened slightly. It flew around above, struggling with a decision.
The female lead is too tragic if this is true. If so, it didn’t want that for her either. The system awkwardly flew back to Little Xia Yu’s side, turning its back on her.
Since its birth, it had been different from other small systems. In their words, it was a weird little system. They never liked playing with it. It didn’t care anyway.
Thus, it scored almost perfectly in all its other courses, failing only in one. It was born with an extra dose of empathy and fundamentally couldn’t heartlessly force its hosts to complete missions like the other systems.
It had deferred its graduation for so many years that the main god eventually became aware of it. The main god merely stroked its lowered little head sympathetically and personally helped it select its first mission.
Perhaps this isn’t a defect, but a touch of divinity.
“Besides, System, what kind of system are we? A cannon fodder NPC system. What kind of mission are we doing? Slapping the faces of the protagonist and the villain. What does any of this have to do with the female lead? We don’t have a single task related to the female lead. So, does the female lead matter? It doesn’t matter at all.”
“Perhaps if we release the female lead, we might even achieve the effect of slapping the male lead’s face and gain some extra points,” Xia Yu rattled on incessantly, continuously trying to brainwash the system.
“System, isn’t that right, isn’t it~” Little Xia Yu reached out and gently tugged the small blue ball, rare for her to pout and act spoiled, her eyes sparkling.
The proud little princess, with just a slight softening of her tone, could quickly win people over.
Under Xia Yu’s mix of coaxing, trickery, and spoiling, the successfully swayed system began running at high speed. After several seconds of sputtering, a puff of smoke slowly emerged from the top of the little blue ball.
And then it was convinced.
Click. With a light sound, under the system’s high-tech operation, the door that required a key card silently unlocked.
Xia Yu carefully minimized her movements, gently opened a crack, and slipped inside.
The darkness was thick like ink, silently enveloping the room. The air was filled with a faint sandalwood scent, mixed with a barely perceptible humid smell.
Xia Yu slightly frowned and held her breath. It smelled different from Shen Zheng’s scent—much stickier, as if something else had been added.
Heavy curtains blocked all light outside the window, allowing no sliver of light to pass through.
Walking through the living room, Xia Yu’s gaze fell on the large bed. The heart-shaped bed practically occupied half the room.
A thick blanket neatly covered the entire bed. In the darkness, the blanket gently rose and fell.
“Host, there’s someone on the bed.” Since Xia Yu entered this pitch-black room, the system had activated its auxiliary mode. It could clearly sense the person on the bed whose breathing had become suddenly rapid and suppressed the moment they entered.
Xia Yu hummed in acknowledgement, tiptoeing slowly toward the bed. The edge of the bed was vaguely visible in the dark, almost blending into the surroundings.
Even with the system guiding her, Xia Yu tripped over the foot of the bed. Losing her balance, she fell forward onto the bed. She quickly braced herself with her hands on the mattress.
Accompanied by a scream of terror, she touched the woman’s calf through the blanket. Xia Yu quickly pulled back her hand and scrambled off the bed, looking up to meet the gaze of the only part of the woman not covered by the blanket—her head.
In the pitch-dark environment, Xia Yu couldn’t clearly see the woman’s expression, but from the woman’s painful cries and the violent shaking and struggling on the bed, Xia Yu could feel her despair.
She felt a moment of trance. She vaguely remembered being the same way in her original world on the day her Imperial Mother forced her to marry. Outside, there were eight-bearer sedans, gongs and drums, and ten miles of dowry, but she, wearing her wedding dress in the carriage, was tied up.
If she hadn’t hidden a dagger on her person beforehand, ridden away, and fallen off a cliff, she didn’t know what kind of life she would be leading now.
If she gave the woman on the bed a dagger, she would probably put it either to her own throat or Xia Yu’s.
Looking at her, Xia Yu felt as if she were seeing her former self. But that was in the past. She managed to escape then, and now, she could help her escape.
“Don’t come closer. Don’t touch me. Please…”
Even though the woman on the bed might not be able to see her, Xia Yu raised her hands, staying away from the bed. She softened her voice, gently comforting: “Don’t be afraid. I’m not a bad person. I’m here to help you. Please calm down first. Making too much noise will attract those people.”
Perhaps sensing that Xia Yu held no malice and recognizing that she was a woman, the female lead’s emotions gradually stabilized. She stopped sobbing and said with some difficulty:
“I… I can’t move. I’m tied to the bed.”
“I know.” Xia Yu nodded without surprise. She turned on the small bedside lamp. Then, she swiftly pulled back the blanket that was tightly covering the female lead.
In the soft pink light, the female lead was dressed only in black lace lingerie. The delicate lace, like a fine spider’s web, softly covered her skin. A beautiful ribbon bow was tied across her abdomen, like a gift waiting to be unwrapped. Her limbs were tightly secured by thick ropes.
Xia Yu quickly glanced over, mentally noting the positions of the knots, then gently covered her with the blanket again.
She quickly cut the ropes. She grabbed a bathrobe from the hotel closet and handed it to the female lead.
Without a word, Xia Yu held the hand of the now-dressed female lead, cautiously peeking through the door crack at the movements of the patrolling people outside.
Seeing the female lead’s cold hand trembling uncontrollably, Xia Yu softly comforted her: “Don’t worry. I’m here. I can definitely get you out.”
In the darkness, only the girl’s bright, dazzling smile remained, like the only burning torch in endless despair, instantly driving away everything and shining brightly.
