The Cannon Fodder NPC Went Too Far [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
“CEO Shen, we have news.” Qin Ying rushed in after taking a phone call, reporting to Shen Zheng with a grim expression.
“Shen Tingyu’s people sent a message saying Miss Xia is currently in their hands. They demand that we withdraw all the shares we’ve acquired these days and concede 10% of our profits by tomorrow morning. Otherwise, Miss Xia will likely…” Qin Ying paused, suddenly afraid to look at Shen Zheng’s face.
“The voice on the phone was very noisy, with music mixed with screams, and a few sounds that were specifically played for us Miss Xia’s voice. It sounded like her, but we can’t be certain.”
“Do as they say, get people to prepare immediately. Contact the technical staff to pinpoint the address,” Shen Zheng closed her eyes, then looked up and ordered decisively. Her face was tense, her back straight. She seemed no different from when she issued orders decisively in the boardroom, yet the hand she had clenched into a fist trembled slightly.
“They had better keep their word. Otherwise, every single member of the Shen family can forget about living. I’ll have them all chopped up and fed to the dogs,” Shen Zheng narrowed her eyes, her gaze stern and chilling, speaking in a steady, flat tone.
At her command, the entire Xia family sprang into action. Shen Zheng pursed her lips, watching the flow of people. She put on a black trench coat, hiding her trembling hand in the wide sleeve, and stood rigidly behind the technical staff.
She suddenly couldn’t bear the thought of life without Xia Yu.
“What’s all the commotion outside?” Gu Xiwen lay lazily on the sofa, lifting a beautiful woman’s chin. Seemingly annoyed by the crashing sounds outside, a flash of irritation crossed her brow as she casually asked.
Her assistant quietly left the room, and returned shortly, reporting respectfully: “Replying to CEO Gu, Shen family’s Shen Tingyu and CEO Shen’s stepdaughter have somehow run into each other here, and they’re fighting now. The bar doesn’t want to offend either side, so things are a bit chaotic.”
“Oh,” Gu Xiwen immediately found some interest. She sat up straight and asked curiously: “Who won? Did the little beauty beat Shen Tingyu into a pig’s head? I must go out and see. The Shen family’s eldest legitimate grandson, huh?” She drew out the words, her tone sarcastic.
She absolutely despised those old Shen family geezers who treated her with contempt when discussing business. She’d take them down sooner or later.
“No, Miss Xia is alone, and quite frail. She is currently being chased by Shen Tingyu’s people. We don’t know how long she can hold out.”
Gu Xiwen raised an eyebrow in surprise. Hmm, with Shen Zheng’s dominant and aggressive personality, it’s strange that something could escape her control. Indulging the little beauty so much without arranging good bodyguards nearby? That’s unusual.
She then recalled the ongoing power struggle within the Shen family and curved the corners of her eyes like a sly fox. Shen Zheng must be frantic right now.
This was too good an opportunity not to exploit. Gu Xiwen smiled and called Shen Zheng.
“Speak,” a low voice drifted into Gu Xiwen’s ear, carrying a hint of anger.
Knowing Shen Zheng was in a hurry, Gu Xiwen didn’t beat around the bush. After quickly explaining the situation on her end, she seized the opportunity:
“Give me 10%, and I’ll protect the little beauty until you arrive. How about that?”
“Done,” Shen Zheng immediately hung up the phone and ordered with characteristic swiftness:
“All company activities are to proceed as normal. Do not let him find anything suspicious. Qin Ying, take all available personnel and come with me.”
One by one, well-trained bodyguards in black suits efficiently slid into cars. Countless black vehicles sped away like a dark torrent, racing toward their destination.
Gu Xiwen and her people left the private room and headed to the conflict zone.
Under the flickering lights, the bar was a mess. Tables and chairs were overturned, shattered glass lay scattered everywhere, and the air was thick with the smell of spilled liquor.
Xia Yu moved like an agile black kitten, using the bar’s miscellaneous items for cover, dodging and weaving cleverly between the fierce bodyguards. It was as if she had a cheat code, seemingly able to anticipate the bodyguards’ attack routes in advance.
Xia Yu wiped the sweat dripping into her eyes. In the dim light, her eyes were brilliant, proud, and fearless. In her mind, the system was displaying the strictly calculated optimal escape route and the approximate location of the bodyguards’ next move.
Just a little longer. Once the crowd had mostly dispersed, she would follow the system’s route and leave the bar. The doorway was too crowded and chaotic right now, and she feared the bodyguards would attack indiscriminately to catch her.
The proud little princess always took responsibility for her actions and had no precedent for causing harm to innocent bystanders. She wouldn’t bear the shame.
Oh, the little beauty has good moves. She seems to be managing easily. She barely needs my help. Wouldn’t taking this 10% be unwarranted? Should I return it to Shen Zheng?
Gu Xiwen observed from the side for a while. Seeing that Xia Yu hadn’t made a single mistake, she decided not to interfere and steal the little beauty’s moment of glory.
This feat of navigating the chaos without a scratch was something she could boast about in the circle for a lifetime. Besides, looking at the energy radiating from her, even in the darkness, she was still dazzling. Gu Xiwen decided not to intrude.
She suddenly felt a little envious of Shen Zheng.
Seeing that most of the people in the bar had been evacuated and the doorway was empty and spacious, Xia Yu dodged and weaved, speeding toward the main exit following the system’s route. She was only a few steps away from the door.
A crisp gunshot, like a clap of thunder, rang out. A bullet whizzed through the air and headed toward Xia Yu’s shoulder.
Almost the instant the old man drew his gun, the system’s sharp alarm blared in Xia Yu’s mind: “Host! Get down! Get down!”
In a split second, Xia Yu’s foot slipped, and she instinctively dropped down, rolling behind a meter-high sheet metal sign. The bullet barely grazed her clothes. Her heart pounded violently in her chest, and Xia Yu’s breathing quickened.
The old man was surprised that Xia Yu had dodged it. He unhurriedly raised his gun and approached her, patiently persuading: “We sincerely invite Miss Xia to be our guest. Please don’t refuse, or next time, the shot won’t be aimed at your shoulder.”
Gu Xiwen saw the situation instantly turn one-sided. She gritted her teeth and stepped forward. Before she could speak, the old man immediately fired a shot into the ceiling, sternly warning: “This is our Shen family business. CEO Gu, you don’t need to interfere. After all, a gun doesn’t recognize people.”
Those old geezers of the Shen family deserve to die, Gu Xiwen cursed silently. Looking at the dark muzzle of the gun, she slowly retreated.
“Host, the system has calculated countless times, and your escape probability is 0. With your current physical fitness, you cannot outrun a bullet. Let’s surrender. At most, you’ll really break two ribs. The system has pain suppression enabled. Let’s just stay alive for now.”
This wasn’t just about ribs anymore. In the novel, the male lead acted that way because Xia Yu provoked him, and Shen Zheng didn’t care about her, so it was a casual beating before he tossed her aside.
Now, the power struggle in the Shen family had reached a fever pitch. They saw that Shen Zheng cared about her and wanted to use her to threaten Shen Zheng.
She absolutely could not fall into their hands.
Xia Yu gritted her teeth and cautiously peeked her head out. The old man stood leisurely a short distance from the sheet metal sign, holding the gun. He occasionally shot at the floor around Xia Yu to intimidate her, seemingly watching a trapped beast’s final struggle without rushing. The fierce bodyguards slowly closed in on the sign.
All exits were blocked by them.
“Miss Xia, are you coming out yourself, or should we invite you out?” The old man shot at the sheet metal sign and said menacingly.
Seeing that the situation was irreversible, Xia Yu pursed her lips and slowly stood up, her hand gripping the sign trembling. She saw a black muzzle pointed directly at her head.
She opened her mouth, about to say something, when a loud “Bang” suddenly sounded beside her ear. A speeding bullet narrowly missed her, and Xia Yu’s pupils constricted violently.
A shocking bullet hole appeared on the forehead of the old man in front of her. Bl00d gushed from the wound, tracing a path down his cheek. His body twitched uncontrollably and then collapsed with a crash. In his last moment of life, he mumbled intermittently:
“Shen… Shen Zheng…”
Xia Yu suddenly looked back. Shen Zheng was clad entirely in black. Her black hair, scattered around her waist, danced in the strong wind. She stood at the entrance of the bar, holding a gun in her right hand, smoke curling from the muzzle.
Behind her, a group of well-equipped bodyguards surged in, attacking the surrounding bodyguards with emotionless faces.
Under the flickering lights, Shen Zheng’s face was hidden in the darkness, and Xia Yu couldn’t clearly see her expression, only her clenched jawline and cold, dark eyes.
Shen Zheng took a step forward, shielding Xia Yu behind her. Her hawk-like eyes coldly scanned the instantly one-sided situation. Then, as if finding her target, she locked onto Shen Tingyu, who was frozen in fear, shrinking to minimize his presence. With a cold curl of her lips, she raised her hand and fired a shot directly at his chest from a distance.
“Beat them all. If they die, it’s on me.”
Shen Zheng handed the smoking gun to Qin Ying beside her and dragged Xia Yu out by the wrist.
Gu Xiwen watched their backs and gave Qin Ying a significant, knowing tsking sound.
Qin Ying, expressionless, handled the aftermath for Shen Zheng, explaining officially: “Miss Xia is young and CEO Shen’s stepdaughter. CEO Shen naturally takes extra care of her.”
“Care, huh? So, this is the kind of ‘care.’ This ‘caring’ starts in one place and ends up in bed, I see.” Gu Xiwen didn’t believe the lie and gave Qin Ying an expression that showed she understood everything.
“CEO Gu, be mindful of your words.”
“Got it. So, it hasn’t happened yet, but it’s only a matter of time.”
Qin Ying opened her mouth, speechless for a moment.
“Here, don’t worry about me. You should go stop her. Shen Zheng is probably close to going completely mad right now. She’s going to scare the little beauty,” Gu Xiwen nudged Qin Ying with her chin.
Shen Zheng dragged Xia Yu to a private doctor, then stood nearby with a low pressure, completely silent.
The doctor checked repeatedly but found no injuries. Shen Zheng nodded at the doctor, grabbed Xia Yu’s wrist again, and walked toward the car, pulling so hard that Xia Yu stumbled a few times.
Qin Ying ran up to Shen Zheng and called out softly: “CEO Shen, CEO Shen.”
Shen Zheng ignored her and continued to increase her pace.
“Shen Zheng.”
Shen Zheng paused and looked back at Qin Ying. Qin Ying stared deeply at Shen Zheng, with a meaningful look that implied: Don’t do anything you’ll regret.
Noise. Shen Zheng loosened her grip on Xia Yu’s hand slightly.
