The Cannon Fodder NPC Went Too Far [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 50
Chapter 50
“Xiaoxi, you must take care of yourself. Tell Mom if you need anything, and Mom will mail it to you. Please don’t let yourself suffer any hardship.” Song Yu held Xu Luxi’s hand, giving careful instructions. Her bloodshot eyes were full of worry and reluctance over her child’s departure.
Gu Aoyu stood lazily with both hands resting on the handle of her suitcase. After waiting for a while, she saw Xu Luxi force a stiff smile, looking like she wanted to leave but couldn’t.
She put one hand on Xu Luxi’s shoulder, pulled Xu Luxi closer, and raised an eyebrow.
“Don’t worry, Auntie. I will take good care of her.”
Song Yu saw Xu Luxi flash a brilliant smile at Gu Aoyu and instantly gritted her teeth. When Xu Luxi looked back, she managed to force a smile at her.
Gu Aoyu scoffed, pulled Xu Luxi away, and casually waved her hand over her shoulder at Song Yu as a farewell.
Perhaps due to guilt, or fear that the guaranteed future was slipping away, Song Yu had been extremely attentive to Xu Luxi these days. Xu Luxi didn’t refuse; as long as the outward appearance was maintained, it was fine. As for everything else, after so many years of entanglement, it was impossible to untangle. It was quite alright to let things be muddled like this.
Xu Luxi and Gu Aoyu took a plane to the capital, preparing for the start of the semester.
Perhaps the heavens couldn’t bear to separate the lovers, as they were both successfully admitted to their desired schools and majors. Xu Luxi entered the integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s program at Capital Medical University, and Gu Aoyu was admitted to the Police Academy.
The two schools were not far apart, one a medical school, the other a police academy. One saves lives, and the other upholds justice. They were strangely compatible.
After getting off the plane, Gu Aoyu looked worriedly at Xu Luxi’s fair face and gently instructed:
“Xu Luxi, call me when you arrive. If anyone bullies you, tell me, and I’ll beat them to death.”
Xu Luxi was a little helpless. She reached out, pinched Gu Aoyu’s cheek, and ruffled her unruly short hair.
Why does everyone worry about her being bullied? She was only acting obedient, not truly obedient. Had she acted for so long that the stereotype was hard to break?
She could understand her mother; her image as a gentle and sensible child wouldn’t fade immediately. But what was wrong with Aoyu?
Was she very obedient when she was tossing her around in bed? Gu Aoyu clearly had a cruel sense of humor. When she was being messed with, Gu Aoyu wondered where she learned all those torturous tricks.
It seems she needs to step up her game next time.
Xu Luxi flashed an obedient smile. Under Xu Luxi’s suggestive gaze, Gu Aoyu immediately guessed what she was thinking. She pinched Xu Luxi’s fair cheek hard and whispered, “Beast.”
Amber eyes filled with a layer of mist. Xu Luxi looked at Gu Aoyu’s quickly retreating back, a beaming smile on her face.
Aoyu fights every day and has great strength. Her body is delicate, and her strength is small. A huge disparity in strength. But when she came up with new ways to play, Aoyu never pushed her away. Didn’t that mean she liked it very much too?
Aoyu was clearly indulging her, or perhaps even inviting and enticing her.
She was just doing what every girlfriend would do.
Reporting, settling into the dorm, and then military training.
One had a long military training period, and the other was immediately bogged down with heavy coursework upon starting the semester. Like a spinning top being whipped, both were constantly busy. They couldn’t meet for several weeks, communicating remotely through their phones. It was tough for the young couple deeply in love.
“Aoyu, I have a lab this weekend. I might not be able to…” Xu Luxi was wearing a white lab coat. The scenery behind her constantly blurred. She appeared in the video, walking quickly toward the lab building, apologizing slightly to Gu Aoyu.
Gu Aoyu was smiling brightly, standing at her school gate. People and cars bustled around. The short-haired girl wore simple casual clothes, leaning against a large tree by the school gate, one hand in her pocket, the other holding a bright red tanghulu (sugar-coated hawthorns). Sunlight filtered through the branches, casting scattered light and shadows on her. She looked particularly attractive.
Hearing her words, Gu Aoyu’s radiant eyes instantly dimmed a little. She pursed her lips and adjusted the camera angle, hiding the noticeable sign of Xu Luxi’s school.
Her usually curved eyebrows drooped significantly. She hid the notoriously intense upper half of her face when she was frustrated, only showing the lower half. She replied casually, feigning indifference: “Oh, I’m still at school. Coincidentally, our advisor also has something. So be it.”
Xu Luxi looked at her notably tensed jawline and softened her voice: “Next week, we must meet next week. Okay? I didn’t know he would suddenly add a class.”
“I’m not that clingy. If you’re busy, go ahead and be busy.”
Xu Luxi opened her mouth, but before she could speak, the video went black. Gu Aoyu had hung up first.
Gu Aoyu took a deep breath, trying hard to lift her sluggish brows, attempting to look normal.
In the end, she failed. She sullenly threw the tanghulu into the trash can with a clunk. Hands in her pockets, she walked away from the school gate without looking back.
“Ah, Host, why did you throw it away? Such a delicious thing. If the Great Villain is too busy to eat it, you can eat it yourself,” the Little Blue Orb looked regretfully at the crystal-clear tanghulu disappearing into the bin.
Gu Aoyu tapped the little pink-and-white girl’s head with a bent finger and said casually, “You’re a system, how do you know it’s delicious?”
“Host, don’t underestimate the system. I, the System, am one of the top intelligent races in the entire universe. As soon as the Host bought that tanghulu, the System already analyzed its components and transmitted the data into your brain.”
Perhaps the little girl’s completely earnest expression while explaining was too adorable. Gu Aoyu rubbed its head and raised an eyebrow.
“What’s the fun in eating data? When you get a physical body someday, my treat. I’ll take you to eat all the delicacies on this street.”
The Little Blue Orb’s eyes widened with anticipation upon hearing this. Then, it secretly glanced at Gu Aoyu’s current expression. Distracted by the system, Gu Aoyu’s mood had actually improved a lot.
The Host and the Great Villain were both very, very good people. Since they were together, it didn’t want them to have conflicts again.
“What? Afraid I’m angry? I’m not an unreasonable person. She’s genuinely busy; I know that.” Gu Aoyu lightly flicked the Little Blue Orb. She lay down in her sea of consciousness and whispered.
“Then why did you throw away the tanghulu? You are angry.” The Little Blue Orb pouted, pushing its face close to Gu Aoyu’s.
Gu Aoyu choked a little, glared at the Little Blue Orb, rolled over, and gave it an aloof back, remaining silent.
The Little Blue Orb relentlessly ran its big data, trying to counsel its clearly somewhat depressed Host.
“According to big data analysis, medical students have extremely heavy coursework. One medical textbook can be as thick as several bricks. There’s even a famous saying: ‘Anyone who advises someone to study medicine will be struck by lightning.’ The Great Villain definitely didn’t do it on purpose.”
“I know.” Gu Aoyu rolled back, clasping her hands behind her head, a little wistful: “It’s different from high school.”
In high school, the two of them were inseparable, going to school and coming home together. Towards the end, they even went to the restroom together. She had grown used to it, used to her constantly being by her side, used to her eyes and attention being entirely focused on her. Back then, Xu Luxi’s world seemed to contain only her.
Even as a couple, they should have their own lives, careers, and social circles. She understood all of this.
She was also trying hard to adapt, diligently training and studying, striving to leave them with a good impression.
But was the gap between a top university and an ordinary first-tier university really that huge? In high school, their teacher constantly talked about 985 and 211 universities. Something about one grade level separating them, and platforms and resources being miles apart.
She used to scoff at it. It was good enough for her to get into a first-tier university; she didn’t need anything extra. Now, she was suddenly a little unsure.
Xu Luxi loved studying, had good grades, was fair-skinned and obedient. If not for those maggots in the gutter, she would be universally likable.
She could gain many good teachers and friends comparable to her. Many people would like her. She could use the school as a springboard to better platforms. Would their gap grow wider and wider?
Sometimes, a relationship breaks not due to fighting or conflict, but because the loved one, forgotten in the midst of increasingly busy lives, lets the flame gradually extinguish, leading to coldness and indifference. It’s when the disparity between the two sides is too great, and the misalignment of their souls causes a loss of common topics. Maybe there’s no one at fault.
Gu Aoyu, dressed in light sports attire, ran rapidly on the track. The hem of her shirt flapped in the wind with her strides. Sweat trickled down her forehead, soaking the stray hairs at her temples and wetting her back.
The night was as dark as ink. The lights cast long shadows on Gu Aoyu, who was continuously exercising in circles. That figure was somewhat stubborn, with a relentless determination to succeed.
So, she had to work harder, a little harder. She believed she could keep pace with her.
She didn’t know how many laps she ran. Her lungs burned fiercely. She gasped heavily, slowly stopping. As she wiped the moisture from her face with a towel, a video call came in.
“Aoyu, are you busy? There’s something very important I want to tell you in person.” Xu Luxi’s face appeared on the screen. Her amber eyes looked at her with a watery, serious focus.
Gu Aoyu was momentarily stunned. She glanced at Xu Luxi’s background. It seemed to be her school gate.
Without thinking, she bolted toward the gate.
She ran to the school gate without stopping, leaning on her knees and panting.
The girl stood quietly at the sparsely populated gate, wearing a white lab coat and holding a thick book. She met Gu Aoyu’s eyes. Xu Luxi’s eyes curved into small crescent moons, like a clear spring, shimmering under the moonlight.
“I took a taxi over right after the experiment finished tonight. Aoyu, I miss you, I miss you so, so much. I miss you so much I can’t do my homework or sleep. Can you hug me?” The girl opened her arms, gentle and longing.
“I just finished running and haven’t washed…”
Before she could finish her muffled words, the soft body pressed against her, hugging her gently. Xu Luxi ruffled Gu Aoyu’s damp short hair.
A slight sting of bitterness rose in her nasal cavity. Gu Aoyu buried her head in Xu Luxi’s neck and lightly bit the back of her neck.
“Xu Luxi, are you crazy? You have class tomorrow.”
“Not crazy, not crazy, six of one, half dozen of the other. Aoyu, I just came to tell you that I miss you. And that you are more important than anything else.”
Everything I do, all my efforts, are for us to have a better future.
