Chapter 11: Debutante Training Class – I Can’t Live Without You
“I’m sorry, Sister Shayu, it was so delicious, I really couldn’t control myself.”
The ‘manual’ told Tu Si that whether she was wrong or not, apologizing first was always the best move.
But Tu Si felt, whether it was her imagination or not, that Gong Shayu’s lips were pursed even tighter after she apologized.
A little later, Fang Yu, who was on his way to pick them up, received an instruction from his boss: “Buy a cotton candy machine.”
Assistant Fang, who was idling nearby, looked at his phone screen twice, both front and back, tossed his confusion aside, and headed to a nearby mall.
By the time she emerged from the mall, it was already nine in the evening, which wasn’t late for someone who usually worked with Gong Shayu until eleven.
Coincidentally, Gong Shayu’s second instruction arrived: “Ten minutes, East Lake West Gate.”
Fang Yu drove towards East Lake, simultaneously mentally reviewing hotels suitable for the Third Miss Gong to stay at tonight.
After picking up the two, Gong Shayu’s first sentence was to send Miss Tu back.
Fang Yu: “…”
Well, the hotel research was a waste.
Tu Si was smarter this time, following the manual: “I left home in a rush today and didn’t bring my keys. Could I possibly ask to stay at your place for the night, Sister?”
As she said this, the genuine helplessness in her eyes was truly pitiful. Fang Yu’s gaze shifted from the rear-view mirror to the road ahead, and the shortlisted hotels started rolling through her mind again.
Gong Shayu spoke again: “Haina Mansion, Assistant Fang, and find a locksmith for her.”
Tu Si grew a little anxious upon hearing this. Hu Die had instructed her not to bring any humans to Haina Mansion, and though she didn’t know who the locksmith was, they should be human.
She thought she had a flash of inspiration and quickly said, “No need, thank you. My keys are in my bag.”
Fang Yu: “…”
Gong Shayu felt she was hopeless, with lies easily rolling off her tongue.
A moment later, Gong Shayu spoke in a lukewarm tone: “Why aren’t you in school at your age?”
Tu Si didn’t know what ‘school’ meant at the time, but she thought she’d heard Hu Die and the others discussing it. A Li had said that she didn’t even know her ABCs, and it would be more practical to send her directly to a debutante training class.
However, because Hu Die had been busy these last few days, it hadn’t been mentioned again.
Tu Si thought for a bit and said, “My cousin will probably send me to study once she’s finished with her current work.”
Gong Shayu’s expression softened slightly. Although she felt she wouldn’t have any future interaction with this girl, she still hoped she would learn more knowledge to enrich her empty spirit, so that she wouldn’t stray too far on this path.
The sudden silence made Tu Si restless. Seeing Gong Shayu was interested in the topic of “studying,” she brought it up again: “Sister, do you know about the debutante training class? I’ll be ‘studying’ there when the time comes.”
After saying this, Tu Si smiled coyly at Gong Shayu.
“!” Fang Yu almost choked, coughing violently twice.
Gong Shayu said expressionlessly, “You certainly should go and study.”
Tu Si was happy to receive approval: “Then I’ll talk to my cousin about it when I get back.”
Gong Shayu closed her eyes and stopped speaking. She didn’t have a habit of reforming people’s worldview. If Tu Si hadn’t accidentally persuaded Hao Bo to back off last time, she wouldn’t have bothered saying even those two sentences.
Fang Yu drove the car to the entrance of Haina Mansion. Tu Si got out of the car, and Gong Shayu lowered the window, looking at Tu Si. “Fang Yu, give Miss Tu the cotton candy machine. Also, Miss Tu, let’s not see each other again.”
Fang Yu: “…”
Tu Si understood this. Putting aside the task Hu Die and the others gave her, she currently needed Gong Shayu to provide her with ‘nourishment’.
“Sister, I’m sorry, I was wrong. I can’t live without you,” Tu Si blurted out the reason in a moment of panic. Although her voice wasn’t loud, it was enough for the other two present to hear.
Fang Yu was so shocked her body stiffened, and the cotton candy machine in her hand nearly dropped to the ground.
[Give me a chance, let’s get to know each other] [I really like you] [I miss you very much] [Miss Gong, you’re different from anyone I know] [You really are very charming] [Can I pursue you?] [Miss Gong, you are like the breeze, the evening glow, the heartbeat, you are irreplaceable]
Assistant Fang’s mind automatically played back the messages professing love to Gong Shayu in her phone.
Many people expressed their love to Miss Gong every day, in countless ways—some direct, some subtle—and the messages piled up in Fang Yu’s phone so much that she was too lazy to delete them.
However, no one had dared to be so direct with Gong Shayu face-to-face.
Based on her face alone, this Tu Si looked like an innocent little white flower, not at all someone who would say something like that. The key was that she said it without blushing or a racing heart.
Gong Shayu raised her eyes to glance at her, then coldly said, “Understood.”
The car window slowly rose, completely separating the two.
Fang Yu handed the cotton candy machine to Tu Si, and with a seemingly heavy heart, explained the usage tips for the machine.
“Thank you,” Tu Si accepted the machine. She was eager to take it back and share it with Hu Die and the others, because they had told her that when someone gives you a gift, it means they are interested in you.
On the way back, Gong Shayu kept feeling a mix of the cotton candy’s artificial fragrance and Tu Si’s unique floral scent lingering in the car. As the car merged onto the main road, she instructed Fang Yu to open the windows on opposite sides.
The cool breeze dispersed the sickly sweetness inside the car.
Meanwhile, Tu Si went upstairs and opened the combination lock. The door opened, but no one was in the living room, and the lights were off.
“Sister Hu Die?” Tu Si called out in the direction of the bedroom, but there was no answer. She called upstairs again: “Sister Hu Die?”
Tu Si turned on the light, placed the cotton candy machine near the entrance, changed into her slippers, and went to the balcony.
Before she could speak, the rose and the money tree rushed to say, “After you left, Miss Hu Die took a phone call and went out.”
Tu Si recalled that they had originally planned to go out for dinner together in the afternoon, but Hu Die suddenly decided not to go just before leaving, saying she would have Bai Ying pack her some plain boiled chicken. In the end, it was A Li who drove her to East Lake.
A phone call?
Tu Si took out her own phone. She usually didn’t pay much attention to this device, except for watching videos, short dramas, and harassing the “public shark” (Gong Shayu’s number).
“Sorry, the number you dialed is switched off.” Tu Si dialed Hu Die’s number, and only the cold, mechanical female voice replied.
She didn’t think twice and dialed the Fox Spirit’s number. “Sorry, the number you dialed is switched off.”
It was the same female voice again.
Tu Si took a deep breath, disbelieving, and dialed the Rabbit Spirit’s phone. The same electronic voice answered her.
What should I do?!
She thought perhaps this ‘metal box’ was malfunctioning. Tu Si recalled the spell Grandma Banyan had taught her before; she could use her spiritual power to find Hu Die. However, although she remembered the spell, she hadn’t tested her spiritual power yet and wasn’t sure if she even had any.
But at the same time, Hu Die’s warning rang in her ears: “You must remember, unless you are about to die immediately, you absolutely cannot use your spiritual power.”
Alright, Tu Si secretly thought at the time, don’t worry, Sister Hu Die. I don’t think I even have this spiritual power thing.
Tu Si dialed the last number on her phone, which was saved as “Public Shark,” but was actually Assistant Fang’s number.
The call connected. This time, it wasn’t the mechanical female voice. After three “beeps,” someone picked up.
“Sister?” Tu Si’s voice was cautious.
Fang Yu lightly cleared her throat, “Miss Gong is already resting. Does Miss Tu have anything you need me to pass on?”
Tu Si recognized the owner of the voice and said “thank you,” realizing she didn’t know how to explain her current predicament.
After waiting for two seconds, Fang Yu heard the girl on the other end of the phone say with a sense of loss, “It’s nothing. Thank you.”
Fang Yu’s fingers twitched slightly, feeling that she should still try to find a way to convey this call to Gong Shayu.
