Chapter 12: On the Run—The Boss Is Fleeing So Fast… for a Woman?
At three o’clock in the morning, Tu Si was woken up by a notification sound from her phone.
She picked it up; it was a WeChat message from Hu Die, who had been out of contact for five hours.
【Pack your things. Bai Ying will take you to the airport later】
Tu Si was still in a daze. She listened to the voice message again to confirm her understanding. A second message followed immediately:
【Don’t ask why, don’t reply to this WeChat message. Hurry up】
Tu Si immediately sprang up from the sofa. She suddenly realized she had nothing to pack; everything here belonged to Hu Die. She really wanted to send a message to ask if she could take some of the glittering earrings, necklaces, and rings.
But Hu Die told her not to reply to the WeChat message.
Tu Si hesitated for a moment, then took off all the cheap jewelry she was wearing, kissed them, and put them down. “Be good and wait for me here.”
She then went upstairs to pack a few items of clothing. But then, a problem arose: she didn’t know where she was going.
What kind of clothes did she need?
In truth, as a dodder spirit, her original form had an extremely strong survival ability. A temperature difference of twenty degrees, up or down, was not a problem for her.
This meant she could take any clothes she liked—wearing a padded coat in summer or a short-sleeved shirt in winter—and her body wouldn’t have any complaints.
However, as a human, Tu Si was a little concerned about fitting in.
Tu Si thought about it, opened a suitcase, and packed one outfit for each of the four seasons.
When she came out of the closet, her phone rang. It was Bai Ying.
“I’m waiting for you on the first basement floor.”
The Rabbit Spirit’s voice sounded a bit weak. Tu Si thought that since she had been a human for a long time, she was used to the human circadian rhythm, and since it was her usual sleeping time, she sounded listless.
But when Tu Si saw the real Bai Ying, she realized that wasn’t the case.
Bai Ying’s rabbit ears were out, her face was covered in bruises, and her clothes were badly torn and wrinkled.
Even Tu Si, with her lack of perception, could tell that she had just escaped from a battlefield.
“Get in the car, quickly!” Bai Ying yelled at Tu Si in a low voice.
The roar of the car sliced through the already turbulent night. As they sped out of the underground garage, Bai Ying quietly called Tu Si’s name. “Listen carefully, little Dodder Spirit. The three of us are in some trouble. You go to Yalu Port first. Someone will meet you there. Remember, they are human. You absolutely must not tell anyone who you are, and you definitely cannot use your spiritual power in front of anyone. Did you get that?”
Tu Si: Spiritual power? I don’t think I have any.
She quickly processed the words and immediately grasped the main point: “Sister Bai Ying, what kind of trouble did you run into? Was it the Demon Management Bureau that found you?”
The Rabbit Spirit realized that Tu Si was not only not stupid, but quite clever. She was just newly in human form and hadn’t adapted to this society yet. But since she had been human for a long time, she knew how to easily make the other person obey.
“You don’t need to worry about any of that,” Bai Ying’s expression was serious. “You just need to earn money, a lot of money. Do not leave that resort until we find you.”
“Remember, only that resort has a Yao Clan barrier that can protect you.”
Tu Si’s mouth was slightly open. She wanted to tell Bai Ying that without Gong Shayu, she wouldn’t survive long there, or maybe she should just stay here and help them. However, before she could utter a word, she and her luggage entered the void. The next second, she had already appeared at the boarding gate.
Tu Si steadied herself. Hu Die had repeatedly warned her not to use spiritual power unless she was in mortal danger, but she had clearly just been transported by Hu Die’s spiritual power…
Does that mean all three of them are in mortal danger?
Tu Si’s heart was pounding. She had never experienced such intense nervousness and fear. A surge of unprecedented power erupted from her dantian and rushed through her bl00d vessels to her limbs. Just as it was about to burst through her skin, it was suppressed by an even more powerful force.
She stumbled back a step, losing her composure for a moment.
Tu Si herself didn’t notice that the vine patterns on her collarbone were flashing a white light.
The airport announcement was broadcast repeatedly. With the help of the staff, Tu Si successfully boarded the flight to Yalu Port.
“Yalu Port?” Weng Fangshu’s probing voice sounded on the phone: “Is your mom putting too much pressure on you, so…”
Gong Shayu’s tone was unusually gentle, “Aiya, Mom, no, the old man put me in charge of ICC (the resort hotel brand invested in by the Gong family). I’m just going on a business trip.”
“ICC? Is that because you agreed to the marriage alliance with the Hao family? Shayu, while Mom hopes someone will be there to keep you company, your happiness is the most important thing.” Weng Fangshu seemed to be in a good mood today and was more talkative than usual.
Gong Shayu was simultaneously opening the folder containing the files of all the management staff of the ICC Yalu Port branch on her computer desktop.
She spoke gently to the person on the phone, “Don’t worry, I won’t. I know what I’m doing.”
Hearing this, Weng Fangshu let out a rare two low laughs: “Mom trusts your judgment. I think that girl is pretty good too.”
“?” Gong Shayu didn’t immediately understand which girl Weng Fangshu was talking about. Her heart sank, thinking her mother was having a relapse. She quickly stopped what she was doing and coaxed, “I think she’s good too, Mom. Hand the phone to Aunt Yun. I want to say a few words to her.”
“Hello, Miss.”
Gong Shayu quietly asked Aunt Yun to step out onto the balcony.
A moment later, Aunt Yun’s voice came through the phone, “Miss, you can talk.”
Gong Shayu stopped what she was doing and asked, “Is my mom having a relapse again?”
Aunt Yun paused, then raised her voice: “No, Madam’s mood has been stable recently, especially after seeing the pictures of you and that young lady. She’s been…”
Gong Shayu: “Wait, wait, wait, which young lady?”
Aunt Yun: “Hehehe, Miss, don’t be shy. Madam knows everything. It’s the young lady who was in your arms at Young Master Hao’s birthday banquet.”
Gong Shayu: !!!… Damn it.
Aunt Yun continued to ramble on: “Today is the end of the one-month period Madam agreed to, isn’t it? She originally thought you would bring that young lady over tonight.”
Gong Shayu’s face twitched. Not knowing what sins she had committed in her past life, she said with a complicated expression to the person on the phone: “Okay, you tell my mom that I’ll bring her back to see you all after I return from my business trip.”
Fang Yu, who had listened to the entire conversation, felt it necessary to say something, “Uh, Boss Gong, actually, Miss Tu called last night. She didn’t say anything, but I have a feeling she must have been missing you.”
Gong Shayu looked up at her and slowly said, “Change my ticket to this afternoon. A three-month business trip should make my mom forget this person. I hope you forget, too. Thank you.”
Fang Yu: I can’t believe Boss Gong is fleeing this quickly… for a woman? She involuntarily shivered, her feet snapping together. “Yes.”
