Chapter 15: Enjoyment — Drunk on Milk Tea
With Wang Wei’s help, Tu Si memorized the names of the men who had been gossiping about her.
During dinner, the other gardeners deliberately kept their distance, but Wang Wei sat across from her with her own plate.
“I didn’t realize you were so good at cursing people out,” Wang Wei said with a laugh.
Tu Si was eating a chili pepper and desperately looking for water. Hearing this, she stuck out her tongue and fanned herself. Her gaze landed on the milk tea in front of Wang Wei.
Since the employee cafeteria deducted money from the employee card, and Tu Si hadn’t officially started work, she had no card or money. The food on her plate was all paid for with Wang Wei’s card.
Wang Wei pushed her partially consumed milk tea toward Tu Si. “Want a sip?”
Tu Si nodded. “Yes, I do,” she answered honestly.
“But I’ve already drunk from it, and it’s very sweet. You might not be able to sleep tonight,” Wang Wei explained. “If you don’t mind, you can have it.”
Tu Si swallowed, took the milk tea, and, mimicking Wang Wei, bit down on the straw in her impatience. She chewed twice, then spat it out with a “Pleh!”
Wang Wei giggled. “Are you doing that on purpose? Why are you biting the straw?”
Tu Si: “…”
Wang Wei: “I find you so hilarious. That straw is plastic; you’ll break it if you chew it.”
“I don’t know how to use it…” Tu Si admitted honestly. “I’ve never used a straw to eat.”
Only then did Wang Wei notice that Tu Si used a spoon for everything she ate.
Among women, sharing a restroom trip or a single straw often signifies a close relationship.
She looked at Tu Si with pity. “Tsk, tsk, tsk, you poor rich girl. Fine, I’ll buy you a tumbler with a straw later so you can practice.”
Tu Si didn’t fully grasp what Wang Wei meant. Although she knew quite a few human words, she’d learned them entirely from short dramas and video platforms.
Therefore, her vocabulary was mostly: incomprehensible, with a small explosive part. Without the manual’s guidance, she easily veered toward extremes when dealing with people.
But one thing she was sure of: earning money was the most important thing in the world. This was the value system instilled in her by nearly every being, human or demon, she’d met since becoming human.
Wang Wei removed the straw and tore off the milk tea’s plastic seal. “Just drink it like this.”
Tu Si took a sip. The silky sweetness spread across her tongue. The mix of milk and tea was a delicious taste she had never experienced.
“Hmm, drink slowly, or you won’t be able to sl…” Wang Wei hadn’t finished her sentence before the milk tea cup was empty. “…eep.”
Tu Si contentedly licked her lips, feeling completely satisfied. Her final conclusion: Being human is great.
Wang Wei gave her a thumbs-up. She could eat and drink well without being delicate. “You eat and drink so much. How do you keep such a good figure?”
Tu Si felt a bit dizzy and excited, but a sliver of rationality told her not to reveal her identity. She just smiled foolishly at Wang Wei.
Wang Wei answered her own question: “Alright, I get it. It’s natural. Here, take my room card and go back first. I’ll go get your uniform. Remember, it’s Employee Dormitory 7, Room 703. Don’t go to the wrong place.”
“Also, one more thing, remember this clearly: the older woman I live with is very fierce. When you get back, if she’s there, you absolutely must be quiet.”
Tu Si was too thrilled, excited, dizzy, and nauseated to catch everything Wang Wei said. She nodded, took the room card, and her mind was still focused on: That chili pepper tasted good.
She reached for the last remaining piece of dried red chili on the tray, popped it into her mouth, and chewed twice. The spiciness shot to her head, making her even dizzier.
Tu Si didn’t remember when she parted ways with Wang Wei, only that the number 7 looked like a sickle.
The ICC is located on a cliff 200 meters above sea level. It has sixty villas and five mansions. Each guest room offers an excellent viewing platform, with the entire ocean visible.
Gong Shayu’s breathing rhythm rose and fell with the sound of the waves. She had stayed in many of the world’s top luxury resorts, but few had a view as breathtaking as ICC’s.
Once upon a time, ICC was a signature landmark of Yalu Port, hosting weddings and parties for global celebrities and politicians. Many people traveled here just to experience a single night in this paradise on earth.
Who could it be who, single-handedly, managed to make such a premier IP lose money every year? Even if they put it online with a 30% discount, the bookings would still be lined up until next year, right?
Then there was Hua Xun, the Yalu Port Police Chief. This man, who held a position of local power, was at ICC in plain clothes, not on official business. His walk was as relaxed as if he were in his own backyard.
“Boss Gong, this is your room card, Building 7,” Fang Yu’s voice interrupted Gong Shayu’s thoughts.
Assistant Fang handed the room card to Gong Shayu at the entrance of Building 7. Knowing her boss disliked other people’s aura in her personal space, she very consciously booked two rooms, both under the guise of tourists.
Gong Shayu took the room card, a smile playing on her lips: “Get a good rest tonight. The room fee will be reimbursed from my card. Consider it a vacation I’m treating you to, Assistant Fang.”
Fang Yu was momentarily taken aback by the sudden smile. The person who was usually so reserved was devastatingly sweet when she smiled. Before Fang Yu could savor the moment, Gong Shayu had already vanished inside the door of Villa 7.
Rewind half an hour. Tu Si looked up at the villa door in front of her, which was marked with the number “2.” She confirmed it wasn’t the right one. She hated these human characters; they all looked the same.
She mostly relied on greenery for directions. Unfortunately, not only did the houses look identical here, but the plants were also copy-pasted.
Tu Si had to rely on her limited knowledge to distinguish the subtle differences between Arabic numerals. Luckily, it didn’t have her most hated numbers, 6 and 9.
She kept circling left and right, making her head spin even more. Finally, just as she was about to collapse, she saw the number “7” that resembled a sickle.
Tu Si rushed over as if granted a reprieve. She swiped the room card over the designated area on the smart lock a few times, but the lock emitted a “beep-beep-beep” error sound.
Perplexed, she gripped the doorknob and pressed down hard. The smart lock didn’t budge.
“It’s right!” Tu Si muttered to herself. Wang Wei had taught her to do this.
The Dodder Spirit looked around helplessly. In the pitch-black night, only the chirping of insects, the croaking of frogs, and the whispered responses of the plants answered her.
Tu Si increased the force in her hand. Her head was spinning terribly, and this human body desperately needed a comfortable bed.
With a loud snap, the doorknob, along with the front panel of the electronic lock, completely broke open, exposing the lock cylinder. Pushed to her limit, Tu Si punched the cylinder.
Normally, the lock would automatically sound an alarm after such violence. But tonight, for some reason, aside from two muffled “bangs,” there was silence.
The lock cylinder dropped to the floor, and the door finally opened.
Tu Si pushed the door and stepped in, but there seemed to be no light inside. She groped around and found a few switches, but no matter how hard she pressed them, no light appeared.
Tu Si gave up. After all, having lived in the rainforest for so many years, she was far better adapted to infinite darkness than ordinary humans.
Hu Die had taught her to take a shower before going to bed every day, and Tu Si took this to heart.
After entering, she released a portion of her true form, found the bathroom, and one vine twisted the shower head on.
Warm water poured over Tu Si. Another vine turned on the faucet, and the bathtub was soon full of water. She submerged herself completely. She knew that without Gong Shayu’s nourishment, her ability to switch between her true form and human form wouldn’t last three days.
She had to enjoy this while she could.
All her vines stretched and relaxed. Strings of bubbles rose to the water’s surface. The Dodder Flower has no leaves, and its rapidly expanding vines sought attachment everywhere. The flowers emitted a white porcelain-like sheen.
The golden vines passed through the bathroom’s transparent glass. Some stretched across the custom-made bed via the oil painting on the wall, and others wrapped around the armchair. One accidentally touched the smart switch, and the sofa automatically began to transform, becoming a semi-reclining bed.
In just two minutes, the entire interior of the villa was a carpet of golden vines.
Tu Si’s stretch was a little too extensive. She was immersed in the joy of her true form becoming more abundant and completely failed to notice the footsteps growing closer to the door.
