Chapter 17: Hold Out Your Hands — What Did I Just Say?
“Boss Gong, Miss Tu…” Fang Yu glanced subtly at Tu Si, who was huddled on the floor in a bathrobe. Boss Gong actually let her shower in her room?!
Gong Shayu also looked at Tu Si with a complicated expression. A ruthless decision formed in her mind.
“Find someone to take her back first,” Gong Shayu instructed.
Fang Yu snapped her fingers at the head of the security team and quietly gave a few instructions.
The captain was a serious-looking local. With the new boss being ambushed in her room right after arriving, he knew he couldn’t escape responsibility.
The night was deep, and being dark-skinned, his complexion was hard to read, but his constant wiping of sweat from his brow betrayed his distress.
At the moment, people were constantly pouring in, the management team was in a panic, employees were peering around, and a crowd of onlookers was kept behind the police tape.
Tu Si was just being helped to her feet by the security captain when she heard someone calling her from the crowd outside.
“Tu Si! Over here.” Wang Wei waved at Tu Si. She clearly had no idea how separating for just a moment could lead to such a major incident.
Tu Si also waved back at Wang Wei.
“Let that girl in,” Gong Shayu told the police. “My sister is traumatized and needs the comfort of a friend.”
Gong Shayu (Thinking): Given Tu Si’s current intelligence, she absolutely cannot be allowed to go out and interact with people alone.
Fang Yu (Thinking): Since when was she your sister?
Tu Si (Thinking): Sister finally admitted I’m her sister… Wuwu…
Wang Wei (Thinking): No wonder, I thought her aura was different.
The police officer conducting the on-site investigation quickly summarized the case: The deceased belonged to a local mercenary group called Heavy Sword, an organization almost entirely listed on the police bounty board.
This meant that if all evidence proved their actions were self-defense, they would not only be cleared of charges but might also be eligible for a reward.
…
The Interrogation
An hour later, at the Phoenix Apartment (the specialized corporate residence prepared for Gong Shayu).
“Contact the PR department and the local police. We’ll hold a press conference together,” Gong Shayu decided. She wouldn’t miss such a good publicity opportunity. Since tourists already knew fragments of the truth, there was no reason to let rumors spread.
“Understood,” Fang Yu noted every word Gong Shayu said while still in shock.
After letting Wang Wei in, Fang Yu subtly tested the waters. Since Wang Wei and Tu Si had only known each other for a day and didn’t know each other well, Fang Yu let Wang Wei leave.
Tu Si, meanwhile, was giggling foolishly at the large LCD TV in the living room. The food she had eaten at dinner had been fully burned off during the fight.
However, the caffeine in the milk tea, combined with the unexpected reunion with Gong Shayu in a foreign land, made her abnormally excited.
She scooped a spoonful of shrimp porridge into her mouth while bursting into laughter at the variety show on TV, showing no sign of panic. It was as if she wasn’t the one who had kicked two people and stabbed one person to death earlier that night.
Gong Shayu watched the grain of rice stuck to her lip. She was probably too engrossed in the show. Only when the program was interrupted by a commercial did she casually roll the rice grain into her mouth with her tongue.
The program resumed, and Tu Si’s laughter started up again. Gong Shayu and Fang Yu’s conversation was over.
As Fang Yu prepared to leave, Gong Shayu stopped her. “Tomorrow, take her for a brain CT scan. While you’re at it, test her mental state, psychology, and… IQ.”
“Yes, Boss Gong,” Fang Yu agreed readily.
She also found Miss Tu’s reaction to the crisis too abnormal. Although she and the police both concluded that the black-clad man with his intestines spilled out was Gong Shayu’s work.
But… after witnessing that firsthand, shouldn’t a normal person look deathly pale and throw up endlessly?!
After Fang Yu left, Tu Si pointed at the people on the television and tilted her head to ask Gong Shayu, “Sister Shayu, can I play with them?”
Gong Shayu looked her up and down, the corner of her mouth twitching imperceptibly. You’d probably send them flying right out of the TV.
This wasn’t the first time Gong Shayu had been ambushed. After being kidnapped at the age of seven, she started training in Wing Chun and quickly became obsessed, adding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to her self-defense skills.
Despite having bodyguards and her own martial arts training, no ambush had ever been as perilous as the one today.
“Has it begun?” Gong Shayu twisted the snake bone chain on her wrist, as if asking the chain or speaking to herself, finally directing her gaze at Tu Si.
Tu Si didn’t know what she was referring to, but felt it would be impolite not to respond. So she nodded, “Yes, it has begun.”
A fierce glint flashed in Gong Shayu’s eyes. Her thick, ink-black curly hair was lifted by the wind from the window. Only then did Tu Si notice a deep crimson hidden within her hair strands, like solidified bloodstains, making her eyes look even more murderous.
Tu Si instinctively wanted to grab onto something—this was her survival instinct for clinging when facing danger.
Gong Shayu snapped the TV off and sat down opposite Tu Si. She stared directly into Tu Si’s eyes and said deliberately, “Let’s talk.”
Tu Si nervously pinched the corner of her bathrobe, like a child who had done wrong. She sensed a subtle change in herself: every time she encountered Gong Shayu, she couldn’t help but feel tense and anxious.
Perhaps, the nourishment required for her survival as a Dodder Flower Spirit could only be drawn from this woman.
In the brief moment of eye contact, Tu Si had a sudden realization: only by staying with Gong Shayu and having money could she continue her cultivation in the human world, just like her sisters.
Thinking of her sisters, a pang of sadness hit her. She didn’t know how they were doing. Bai Ying had instructed that she must never seek them out unless they contacted her first.
At this moment, Tu Si was like a child with fleeting thoughts, her emotions coming and going quickly.
But this constantly shifting expression was interpreted differently by Gong Shayu: The child’s calm earlier was entirely forced. It’s inevitable to be stunned after killing someone for the first time. Now that only the two of them are left, she can’t keep up the act and is starting to panic.
That’s… right!
“Now, I ask, you answer,” Gong Shayu said coldly.
“Okay,” Tu Si responded obediently, keeping her eyes lowered.
“How did you know I would be coming to Yalu Port today?”
Tu Si quickly apologized: “I’m sorry, I was wrong.”
Hearing this apology, Gong Shayu was silent for about ten seconds. If she remembered correctly, Tu Si always apologized before resorting to violence.
“Don’t randomly say ‘I’m sorry’ to people. Answer my question properly,” Gong Shayu said flatly.
“I’m so—” Tu Si saw Gong Shayu’s expression and quickly corrected herself: “Not sorry. I didn’t know you would be coming to Yalu Port today.”
Gong Shayu: “Fine, I’ll rephrase the question. Who sent you to Yalu Port?”
Tu Si remembered Bai Ying’s instruction not to tell anyone about her true form, but this question didn’t seem to involve it. So she answered honestly, “Sister Bai Ying sent me.”
Gong Shayu: “To do what?”
Tu Si knew this one. Without thinking, she blurted out, “To earn money.”
“…” At least she’s not lying. If it was simply for money, that was manageable.
Gong Shayu pondered for a moment, then continued, “The matter of you killing tonight is known only to you and me. You are forbidden to ever mention it again.”
Tu Si nodded as if vaguely understanding. She felt like she had many secrets she couldn’t tell people every day, but she didn’t care. She had no friends and no desire to tell anyone anyway.
Gong Shayu: “Then repeat what I just said.”
Tu Si looked at Gong Shayu, a face full of question marks.
Gong Shayu seemed to realize something. “It means, say it again.”
With that brief explanation, Tu Si understood.
She obediently opened her mouth: “Tonight, I killed someone. Only Sister Shayu knows, Tu Si knows, and I’m forbidden to ever mention it again.”
Gong Shayu pulled out a wire coat hanger at some point and commanded Tu Si, “Hold out your hands.”
Tu Si’s fingertips trembled. After a moment of hesitation, she submissively opened her hands and presented them to Gong Shayu.
“Pah—!”
The cold wire hanger, whipping through the air, struck Tu Si’s delicate palm heavily. A striking red mark immediately rose on her fair skin.
Intense pain hit. Tu Si abruptly pulled her hands back, curling her fingers tight.
Gong Shayu’s gaze was like a hook, pinned to her face. “Say it. What did I just tell you?”
“You said…” This time, Tu Si hesitated even longer, but finally spoke: “The matter of me killing tonight is known only to you and me. You are forbidden to ever mention it again.”
“Hold out your hands.” The voice was still ice-cold.
“Pah—!”
“Hold out your hands.”
Pah!
“Hold out your hands!”
Pah—
Pah!!
This went on for over a dozen repetitions, until Tu Si flinched reflexively at the sight of the wire hanger. Her hands were already terribly swollen, red and shiny like freshly steamed buns.
Tu Si felt the searing pain in her hands becoming almost numb. Her eyes filled with tears, which then burst forth like a broken dam.
“What did I just say?” Gong Shayu’s voice still lacked any warmth.
Tu Si suspected Gong Shayu was also a spirit transformed into human form, maybe a man-eating flower or an iron tree spirit. She just couldn’t tell because her cultivation was too shallow.
“You said… Wuwu…” Tu Si sobbed for a long time, finally choking out a few words: “Don’t mention it… Forbidden to ever mention it again… didn’t say anything.”
The twisted wire hanger finally went back into the closet. Tu Si frowned at the now-cold seafood porridge and skewered food on the coffee table. She decided she would never eat this kind of food again.
