Chapter 19: The Proposal — Marry Me Tomorrow
Upon returning, Fang Yu reported Tu Si’s psychological and intelligence evaluation results.
“Her psychology is healthy to an extent that’s unlike a modern person. However, there are signs of amnesia—her memory before the age of eighteen is completely blank. Her intelligence is far above average, with an IQ around 210.”
Gong Shayu: “…!!”
Listening to Tu Si’s booming laughter from the living room while watching a comedy, Miss Gong blankly countered, “Like Newton?”
Fang Yu nodded and leaned closer. “I also doubted the doctor’s ability, so I found another authoritative doctor, and the result was the same.”
Gong Shayu: “…”
“The brain CT hasn’t been taken yet. She can’t read English. It’s possible… it’s related to the amnesia. She couldn’t understand any of the doctor’s questions or the test questions until I explained them one by one. That’s why we missed the brain CT appointment.”
“Boss Gong, perhaps there really is only a fine line between genius and madness… that’s why she seems so strange.”
Gong Shayu’s eyes held complex emotions. After a moment of silence, she finally instructed, “Draft two agreements: one for prenuptial property notarization, and one for a contractual marriage agreement. Also, book an appointment for a marriage registration the day after tomorrow.”
Fang Yu froze for a while before hesitantly confirming, “You… yours?”
“Who else’s?” Gong Shayu’s eyes signaled Fang Yu to leave.
Fang Yu cleared her throat and confirmed again weakly, “You and… and… Miss Tu?”
Gong Shayu countered, “Or with you?”
Fang Yu mentally yelled a string of expletives but remained expressionless. Before leaving the room, she couldn’t help but ask one last time, “Then… Miss Tu’s brain CT…?”
Gong Shayu didn’t snap at her this time, simply replying, “We’ll talk about it later.”
Curled up and laughing hysterically on the sofa, Tu Si was blissfully unaware that she was about to face the first major event of her human life.
Fang Yu took a long look at the sofa’s direction, then quickly left.
Gong Shayu walked over and directly pressed the TV’s power button.
Tu Si was watching intently when the screen abruptly went black. She jumped up from the sofa excitedly and approached the screen in confusion.
Mid-step, she realized something was wrong and backed up. She turned her head and saw Gong Shayu sitting casually on her “bed” (Tu Si had been given permission to sleep on the sofa the night before and now considered it her bed). She instinctively swallowed.
“Hold out your hands,” Gong Shayu said.
Tu Si scanned the area. Seeing no wire hanger, she obediently held out her palms, though the angle showed extreme reluctance.
The palms that were swollen like red sugar buns that morning now only showed a few red lines.
What savage, weed-like vitality!
Gong Shayu couldn’t help but think that a person like this would be very difficult to genuinely harm.
“Listen, I have something very important to tell you.”
Tu Si immediately nodded, adopting the obedient posture of an elementary school student listening to a lesson.
Gong Shayu spoke in the same tone one would use to ask, What should we eat tonight? “You’re going to marry me tomorrow.”
As it was her first time doing this, even Miss Gong couldn’t utter the word “marry” without a flicker of emotion. Tu Si, however, didn’t show the slightest ripple of surprise on her face.
Gong Shayu inwardly admired her audacity once more.
“Fang Yu will bring the specific terms later. Of course, I’m very open-minded. If you have any special requests, you can state them now. Provided they aren’t excessive, I will consider writing them into the contract.”
Tu Si asked, confused, “What is marriage?”
“…”
Seeing Tu Si still holding out her hands like a beggar, this level of naiveté didn’t seem faked.
Gong Shayu used the shortest phrases she thought Tu Si could understand. “Marriage means two people live in the same house.”
“You’re lying! Marriage is when two people who love each other live in the same house,” Tu Si thought for a moment and countered.
Gong Shayu glanced at the dark circles under Tu Si’s eyes, too lazy to correct an adult who was clearly being indoctrinated by Peppa Pig.
“That’s a deceiving plot from a fairy tale. You don’t need to know what marriage is. You just need to know that once this identity is confirmed, I will give you what you want.”
Tu Si’s eyes immediately lit up. “Sister knows what I want?”
Gong Shayu scoffed. “Isn’t it written all over your face?”
Tu Si looked at the glass door of the nearby wine cabinet, checking left and right, and wondered, “No, it’s not?”
Gong Shayu didn’t want to waste any more time with the “genius.” “Tell me. Besides money, what other demands do you have? You have five minutes.”
Tu Si didn’t hesitate. She asked directly, “Then after marriage, will we live together, staying with you every day?”
Her expression was so honest that it looked as if she truly liked Gong Shayu and was willing to do anything just to be with her.
Gong Shayu’s heart jumped sharply at the question. She was stunned for half a second, momentarily unable to tell: Was Tu Si genuinely desperate to spend every day with her, or was this just another tactic?
Having been immersed in the self-serving world of fame and fortune for too long, she was habitually dissecting every smile and guessing the hidden meaning behind every word.
“Sister, didn’t you ask me if I had any demands besides money?”
Just as Gong Shayu decided Tu Si fell into the latter category, Tu Si spoke again, her tone innocent and persistent. “I only have one demand: to live with you, to be with you every day.” She repeated it word for word, as if it were the most important thing in the world.
That way I won’t have to worry about nourishment anymore, and I’ll have money. Most importantly, I can slowly search for the host who shared the bl00d contract with me.
Gong Shayu, in contrast, had a moment of hesitation after Tu Si’s declaration, but it lasted only a second.
Soon, Fang Yu knocked and entered with the contract and agreement.
“Boss Gong, here are the contract and the agreement. Please review them for any modifications.”
Gong Shayu: “Leave them here. You can go.”
After Fang Yu left, Gong Shayu handed the documents to Tu Si. “Take a look. If you don’t have any problems, you can sign. Our contract is effective immediately.”
A thin marriage contract, plus two pages of prenuptial agreement, were spread out before Tu Si. The dense, ant-like characters swam before her eyes. Aside from the Arabic numerals 1, 2, 3… on the agreement, she couldn’t recognize any of the other block characters.
But under Gong Shayu’s scrutiny, Tu Si didn’t want to expose her ignorance. She solemnly picked up the contract, tracing her fingertip across the paper, feigning deep study.
Her goal was clear: money and nourishment.
As long as she was with Gong Shayu, both would be satisfied. Tu Si couldn’t think of any reason not to sign.
Well, there might be one reason: she didn’t know where to sign or how to write her name.
“…”
The Butterfly Spirit hadn’t had time to teach her how to read or write yet.
Miss Gong’s patience was limited. Seeing Tu Si’s long silence, she glanced at her sideways.
What she saw shocked her: Miss Tu, who claimed to have an IQ of 210, was dozing off while holding the contract. The key detail was that the text on the contract was upside down.
Gong Shayu: “…”
“Miss Tu, are you unhappy with the terms of the contract, or are you simply indifferent?” Gong Shayu’s voice was dangerously low.
Truthfully, Gong Shayu had considered finding a temporary partner, but never one like Tu Si. If time hadn’t been so pressing, she would never have interacted with such a person.
Tu Si jolted awake and quickly sat upright. “N-No, I’m very satisfied. It’s just… where do I sign?”
Gong Shayu finally realized something was very wrong. “Read the terms aloud for me.”
Tu Si: “!”
