Chapter 36: Deserted Island: “Fill it. Can you do it?”
The rain seemed to carry a certain magic. Gong Shayu’s clearly angry face, however, acted like a key, unlocking Tu Si’s troubled thoughts.
That small knot of unpleasantness that had been blocking her vanished the moment her gaze met Gong Shayu’s.
“I thought Assistant Fang was coming to pick me up,” Tu Si said with a grin as she climbed into the passenger seat.
Although she had ridden in Gong Shayu’s car many times, this was the first time she was being driven by Gong Shayu herself, and the first time she was sitting in the passenger seat. She curiously examined the flashing car screen.
Gong Shayu gave an unnatural ‘mhm.’ “Assistant Fang is feeling a bit unwell, and with the rain being so heavy, I came. Don’t overthink it.”
Tu Si blinked her large eyes, shifting her gaze to Gong Shayu’s face, and answered very honestly: “Okay, I’m not thinking.”
Gong Shayu continued to reproach her vaguely, “You really need to figure out a way to fill that head of yours with something.”
Tu Si ignored whatever President Gong was saying. She simply thought everything the woman said must be right, considering her beauty and the fact that she personally came to pick her up.
“Fill it. Can you do it?”
My head is filled every day with how to rub against, cling to, and kiss Gong Shayu to absorb some nourishment.
Gong Shayu slammed on the brakes, nearly crashing into the roadside guardrail.
All the way, Tu Si’s seriously bizarre and unsophisticated comments so overwhelmed Miss Gong that she forgot to confirm whether ‘Ah Jie’ would truly show up on time.
When the two of them reached their destination, the rain had stopped.
“Are you sure your friend will be on the deserted island opposite on time?” Gong Shayu took out binoculars and gazed at the not-so-close island.
“Mhm, mhm, mhm… She’s always there when she says she’s going to the deserted island,” Tu Si pulled down hard on her top.
For some reason, she could run around naked if Gong Shayu wasn’t present, but with her here, she felt a vague, indescribable sense of shame.
Of course, this emotion came irregularly. When it came and how long it lasted were not within Tu Si’s consideration.
The binoculars focused on Tu Si’s waist. Gong Shayu pondered for two seconds, took out the car key, and pressed the open button, automatically opening the car’s trunk.
“Go grab a jacket from the back trunk yourself!”
Tu Si obediently walked to the back trunk. When she returned to Gong Shayu, she had a tent bag on her back and two outdoor chairs in her hands, her face full of surprise: “Jie-jie, we can take these with us and go camping!”
Gong Shayu looked up. The sky was so gloomy it looked ready to fall at any moment. She didn’t think the rain was truly over, but she was inexplicably led by Tu Si onto the motorboat heading for the deserted island.
Of course, the Cuscuta spirit monopolized the task of driving the motorboat.
She had learned to drive it in half an hour, all for the sake of her appetite.
Gong Shayu thought she must be crazy.
Why did I come to pick up Tu Si?
Why didn’t I just ask Tu Si to invite Ah Jie directly to the hotel for a meeting?
Why did I agree to ride a motorboat with Tu Si?
When the roar of the motorboat engine echoed across the boundless sea, Gong Shayu knew she was truly insane!!!
The salty, humid sea wind slapped against her face and body. Her body lost balance with every leap of the motorboat, as if she were being flung towards the clouds, only to be harshly yanked back by the waves the next second.
An unprecedented sense of freedom clamored within Miss Gong as waves crashed over them, one after another.
She instinctively pressed her face against Tu Si’s back. The strong, powerful heartbeat made Gong Shayu feel that even if the sky and earth collapsed at this moment, and colossal waves swallowed them, the two of them would definitely survive and charge out of this raging sea.
The sky didn’t fall, and the sea didn’t collapse, but the tent they brought fell into the waves. In a panic, Tu Si subconsciously released a vine to fish it out of the water, when Gong Shayu suddenly yelled from behind, “Don’t move! There’s a snake!”
Tu Si: “…”
The motorboat suddenly accelerated, flying over the waves. Earlier, Tu Si hadn’t used her full power for fear of frightening Gong Shayu, but she ended up showing her something even scarier. The Cuscuta stopped caring so much.
Unexpectedly, Miss Gong neither blamed her nor screamed in terror. Instead, she let out an excited shriek.
This is Gong Shayu!
Tu Si also cheered excitedly. The motorboat continued to sprint, carving a path through the water with its speed and passion, heading straight for the deserted island.
By the time they reached their destination, both of them were drenched.
The tent was gone, the small stools were gone, and even the spare clothes they brought were gone.
Gong Shayu’s lips were blue with cold, yet she was smiling, showing no sign of blame.
“Tu Si? Who exactly are you?” Gong Shayu asked without warning.
Tu Si’s heart clenched fiercely. Although she was usually completely impervious to temperature, she inexplicably shivered at that moment.
Was I… discovered?
Will she be afraid? Will she drive me away? These were the worries that subconsciously sprang up in Tu Si’s mind.
No, it’s fine. She forced herself to calm down. As long as I can suck her bl00d, I can use my spiritual power to erase her memory. Yes, that’s the only way…
Bl00d, bl00d, bl00d!!!
“You’re kinda cute like this,” Miss Gong complimented her abruptly.
Tu Si’s thoughts, which had been halfway to a meltdown, were yanked back by that word, “cute.”
She used all her strength to control the rampant, soon-to-sprout vines on her head and the ill-timed, potentially blooming flower buds.
Not good, the floral scent is getting stronger!
Gong Shayu leaned in and sniffed close to Tu Si’s ear.
The Cuscuta spirit was so startled she didn’t dare to move. She felt like she was undergoing a deity’s inspection. Although she knew there were no iron clothes racks here, she still couldn’t help but fear Gong Shayu.
“Do you smell a faint, fresh scent?” Gong Shayu’s voice was low. At this moment, she seemed to have opened some floodgate. The words she normally disdained to say, the questions she normally wouldn’t ask, seemed to be pouring out all at once.
The rain poured down with a roar, like applause or an oath, drumming against the tropical rainforest, quickly forming white noise. This provided Tu Si with a perfect excuse to escape.
“I’ll take you to shelter from the rain,” Tu Si said, taking Gong Shayu’s hand. This was a conditioned reflex she had practiced during her long-term attempts at ‘accidental’ contact.
And Gong Shayu, at this moment, seemed to be possessed, allowing Tu Si to lead her away.
Mhm…
Hu Die had told Tu Si: Humans are evil, but they are also extremely fragile.
Gong Shayu was no exception. Tu Si slightly reduced the force of her grip on Gong Shayu’s wrist.
A dense warmth spread from the point where their wrists connected. Gong Shayu realized she was about to be frozen stiff.
The speed and passion from earlier were like a raging flood dragon, stirring up a turbulent storm in the stagnant lake of her heart.
Now that the storm had subsided, a difficult-to-calm flutter remained.
It wasn’t that Gong Shayu had never ridden a motorboat before; it was that she had never experienced such a near-loss-of-control speed in such an extreme environment.
Tu Si’s intense contrast made her want to explore further.
She appeared outwardly soft and gentle, yet everything she did revealed a desperate ruthlessness. This contradictory temperament perfectly merged within her. Gong Shayu even suddenly wondered what she looked like when she danced.
“How’s your dancing coming along lately?” Miss Gong asked as the thought occurred to her.
The topic shift was so abrupt that even the Cuscuta spirit, whose thoughts jumped more than anyone else’s, was momentarily speechless.
“Aren’t you taking dance lessons?” Gong Shayu asked again.
Tu Si stammered ‘mhm’ and ‘ah’ for a while, expecting Gong Shayu’s next sentence to be: Don’t go anymore.
Just as she could delete Ma Yi’s WeChat without her consent.
Gong Shayu saw her hesitation and roughly judged the situation. Given Tu Si’s personality, if she were good at dancing, she would try her best to show off in front of her without being prompted.
This reaction… means she’s probably very mediocre.
“There’s a cave here,” Tu Si said, pointing to the cave entrance not far away, quickly skipping the awkward topic.
Gong Shayu: “…”
“Every time we come to this island, we say we’ll check out this cave, but we never have.” Tu Si excitedly quickened her pace into the cave, regretting, “Ah Jie always said, ‘We’ll definitely go this time,’ but then she’d say she was too tired and put it off till ‘next time.'”
Gong Shayu: “Was it just the two of you every time?”
Tu Si thought for a moment, then asked uncertainly: “Which ‘every time’ are you referring to, Jie-jie?”
There she goes again. Gong Shayu knew no one was better at playing dumb than Tu Si, but she still felt a bit annoyed. She warned her seemingly casually, “Remember your current status. During the contract period, don’t get too close to other people, whether they’re male or female.”
Tu Si was deeply immersed in exploration and didn’t clearly hear what Gong Shayu said, merely nodding randomly out of habit.
Miss Gong’s features finally softened, wearing an expression of someone who had been appeased.
Tu Si turned on her phone’s flashlight and aimed it into the depths of the cave, but Gong Shayu suddenly pulled her back. This was the first time Gong Shayu had willingly initiated holding her hand.
Tu Si instantly felt like the world had brightened.
Even though the Cuscuta spirit had absorbed nearly half a month’s worth of nourishment on the trip over, at this moment, she was as excited as if she had received her first drop of sweet dew.
“Stop walking. Right here is fine,” Gong Shayu commanded simply. She wouldn’t let Tu Si notice that she was afraid of the dark.
“Okay, okay, okay,” Tu Si nodded seriously this time. “Jie-jie, did you know? When I used to live in the mountains, there was a cave just like this one. It watched me every day like an eye. Back then, I always wondered what was inside.”
Tu Si turned to Gong Shayu, seeing the other woman’s face was as dark as the cave itself.
“You just said it was watching you?” Gong Shayu asked. “Can it really see?”
Tu Si affirmed, “Of course it can!”
Gong Shayu turned her head to look into the depths of the cave.
If it really can see, can it tell me who harmed my older sister?
The hideous scar deep in her memory was slowly peeling away, exposing the raw, crimson flesh underneath. She looked down…
Bl00d is still dripping!
There was a large cave directly opposite the old Banyan tree. On the day of the incident, Gong Shayu stared fixedly at that black mass. She was almost certain the killer was hiding in that dark hole, escaping. Yet, the police definitively told her the killer had died at the scene.
Gong Shayu unconsciously twisted the snake-bone chain on her wrist. It was her sister’s relic. This habitual action always brought her some peace when her thoughts were turbulent.
The rain continued to fall.
Tu Si kept chattering incessantly. Her deep understanding of the wilderness and jungle even surpassed that of many experts. That sense of affinity, of being one with nature, made it feel like she had lived in this place for hundreds of years.
Gong Shayu couldn’t help but think: A person like her probably doesn’t know what worry is.
