Chapter 42: I Love You… Did You Learn That Kind of Dance Where You Hug a Steel Pole…
Given that Tu Si’s mealtime was relatively lively and long, Gong Shayu called A Jie to the private room next door.
“Speak,” Gong Shayu personally poured a cup of tea for Chef Jie.
A Jie was not reserved. She sat across from her and dropped a bomb right away: “I think Tu Si is a good girl.”
Uh, she’s certainly happy to praise someone else’s wife.
Gong Shayu: “…Thank you.”
“President Gong, there are some things I didn’t want to say,” A Jie’s fingers unconsciously rubbed the edge of the teacup, as if gathering her thoughts.
Gong Shayu gave her an encouraging look. A Jie then spoke again, as if she had made a difficult decision: “It’s because I didn’t want to get involved in the On family’s disputes.”
Gong Shayu’s eyes instantly narrowed, filled with astonishment. She countered: “The On family?”
“Yes, the On family.” A Jie took a sip of water and slowly continued: “Not long after the old madam passed away, my mother also died suddenly from a heart attack. I was away at a competition at the time, so… I didn’t get to see her one last time.”
“But, that Spring Festival, she mentioned to me that Mr. On (Gong Shayu’s maternal uncle) was displeased with the old madam’s excessive attention to Miss (Gong’s mother), and they seemed to have had an argument.”
Gong Shayu took a deep breath. The icy air in the room filled her lungs, but it couldn’t cool her surging emotions. She truly didn’t want the world’s only remaining person who cared about her mother to stand against her.
“An argument?” Gong Shayu’s voice was squeezed out between her teeth.
A Jie: “An ordinary argument between a mother and son certainly doesn’t mean anything, but… Mr. On seemed like a different person during that time; he was terrifyingly irritable.”
“Around the time Miss Yinxue (Gong Shayu’s older sister) had her accident…”
“Then why are you telling me now?” Gong Shayu’s eyes were bloodshot. The fingers of the tightly clenched fist under the table were practically digging into her flesh.
A Jie flinched from her gaze but chose to answer honestly: “Because Tu Si is a good girl, and I want her to be happy.”
Gong Shayu stood up. The turbulent emotions just a moment ago seemed like A Jie’s delusion. She was very tall. Even in flats, she couldn’t hide her innate presence of intimidation. Her icy fingers touched A Jie’s shoulder, as if delivering a judgment: “You should worry about yourself first!”
Just as A Jie instinctively swallowed, Gong Shayu’s hand on her shoulder pressed down and then released its strength.
“The ICC kitchen is officially yours from now on!”
…
Only after the whole table of delicacies had entirely vanished into the Cuscuta spirit’s stomach did Gong Shayu push the door open and enter.
The latter’s expression showed no change. Even Fang Yu couldn’t detect anything unusual about his boss.
But Tu Si still read the ripples in her eyes—or perhaps it was a kind of mysterious telepathy.
On the way back, Tu Si didn’t mention the photos again.
Just as they were about to reach the apartment entrance, Gong Shayu suddenly spoke: “You can take the photos, but you must listen to me. Forget about the underwater, mermaid wedding concept.”
A week later, at the beach…
Gong Shayu sat on a reef with a dark expression, touching up her makeup.
The golden light at the junction of the sea and sky shone on her profile. The waves behind her crashed against the reef, shattering into spray that hung briefly in the air. Every droplet refracted the golden light, looking like countless shattered diamonds strung together.
This, Tu Si thought, is what a mermaid looks like when she emerges from the sea!
Coincidentally, a flock of seagulls flew past behind Gong Shayu. Tu Si quickly raised her phone and froze the frame—
Gong Shayu’s thin lips were pursed into a straight line, her brows slightly furrowed. Her look of complete impatience pierced through the screen and into Tu Si’s heart.
Thump!
Thump-thump-thump—
Tu Si heard the violent beating of her own heart.
The sea breeze lifted her veil, the white gauze covering the phone screen and simultaneously cutting off the source of her heart’s frenzy.
Tu Si looked up, through the translucent netting, at Gong Shayu. Her silhouette in the sunlight was both strange and familiar. An emotion of simultaneous sweet happiness and guilt arose within her without reason.
Her uncontrolled heart ached and throbbed uncomfortably. For some reason, Tu Si suddenly wanted to cry. Before she could figure out the reason, tears streamed down like broken pearls.
The makeup artist quickly tried to console her: “What’s wrong, bride? Don’t cry! If your makeup runs, you won’t look as beautiful.”
Hearing this, Tu Si’s crying grew louder. The makeup artist stood beside her, holding a tissue in one hand and a powder puff in the other, utterly helpless.
“What’s wrong?” Gong Shayu walked over at some point, frowning as she asked Tu Si’s makeup artist.
Tu Si’s makeup artist looked at Gong Shayu’s makeup artist with a bewildered expression, also wanting to cry: This girl was just smiling, and now she’s crying. I didn’t do anything to provoke her!
Gong Shayu’s aura was already intense. When her eyes scanned the room, the makeup artist shivered uncontrollably. Scenes of her interaction with Tu Si, from their meeting to the moment before the tears, flashed through her mind like a movie reel.
Midway through, Tu Si opened her arms and embraced Gong Shayu, sobbing as she looked up and said weakly: “This is bad, Jie-jie. I might be about to violate the third article, fifth point.”
Miss Gong, who had looked so unapproachable just moments ago, wanted to cover her face. Thank goodness no one understood what she was saying, or she’d be completely embarrassed!
The next second, Tu Si said shyly: “I think I’ve fallen in love with you, Jie-jie.”
Gong Shayu: “…………”
The makeup artists: “…………”
What has this got to do with us!!! Why are you so terrifying? (T-T)
Gong Shayu pushed Tu Si away, her ears red, and let the makeup artist continue fussing over her.
Later, Miss Gong, who had always hated cameras, surprisingly allowed Tu Si to “manipulate” her.
They tried underwater, French, forest, Hanfu, and various high-difficulty, strange, and peculiar poses.
The lights flashed repeatedly, illuminating their stunning profiles, as if they were experiencing a long, drawn-out dream.
It wasn’t until late at night, with the photography team on its third shift, that Gong Shayu finally emerged from the shock of the “I’ve fallen in love with you” statement.
The fabric on Tu Si got progressively scantier, and the poses she struck became more and more alluring. Finally, Gong Shayu couldn’t stand it anymore. She grabbed a large red cloth and threw it over her, then demanded that the photographer copy all the photos from the last session onto her phone. “Alright, delete all the negatives in the camera!”
The photographer cried: “This set of photos is truly stunning! I’ve never seen such perfect body proportions. They don’t even need retouching and could be entered into a competition…”
Gong Shayu: “Delete them!”
Tu Si: “Jie-jie, just let me keep a few. I love you!”
Gong Shayu: “Delete them!”
Finally, under Gong Shayu’s threats and coaxing, Tu Si returned to the apartment wrapped in the large red cloth.
Gong Shayu wouldn’t tell her that, on the way back, she stared at the photo on her phone of Tu Si’s long legs crossed, and felt a reaction.
It was just an ordinary studio pose, often used in magazines and personal photoshoots.
But Tu Si’s eyes were like a fawn returning from the rain, while the lines of her body carried a mysterious jungle wildness. Especially paired with the floor-length veil on her head, the pose became incredibly sexy and seductive.
“My photos, ahhh, ahhh, ahhh…” Once home, Tu Si was still immersed in the sorrow of losing twenty percent of her photos.
Gong Shayu silently opened the apartment door.
“Give me back my photos! Give me back my photos!” Tu Si yanked off the red silk, revealing the short dress beneath, which only covered the essential parts with a thin layer of lace.
Gong Shayu silently turned on the entry light.
“Look at me… I liked this set the most, and you wouldn’t let me shoot it! Why? Why??” Tu Si blocked Gong Shayu’s path into the room.
Gong Shayu silently took off her high heels.
“And you looked so good too! Our photos were all great! Good Jie-jie, can the deleted photos be recovered? I really, really loved them…”
Gong Shayu silently lifted the long veil from Tu Si’s head.
She silently lowered her head and blocked her mouth…
The Cuscuta finally quieted down.
No!
She didn’t even need to shift her emotions; she responded to Gong Shayu’s kiss with even greater fervor.
With the previous experience in mind, Tu Si deliberately diverted a trace of spiritual power to prevent herself from transforming.
When the tingling sensation surged through her, she forgot all the techniques the human instruction manual had taught her. She forgot to breathe, and she even forgot to absorb nutrients from Gong Shayu.
Everything was purely instinctive reaction…
…
The following day, evening…
Tu Si woke up with an aching back and waist. When she opened her eyes, she wasn’t on her familiar sofa.
She was on a large bed, a soft and comfortable large bed, bigger and more comfortable than her bed in Z City.
Tu Si rolled around twice on it. Her consciousness slowly returned. The white veil scattered on the floor reminded her just how intimate and wild they had been last night.
Tu Si pulled the blanket over her head, but her mind was constantly replaying Gong Shayu’s brief, yet highly erotic, commands.
“Open up more.”
“Give it to me.”
“Relax.”
“Very good.”
“Keep it down.”
…
“Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle—” The congee on the stove made a peaceful, homely sound.
Gong Shayu leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen balcony, smoking a cigarette. She subconsciously reached to feel the snake bone bracelet on her left wrist, but grasped empty air.
That’s right, the snake bone bracelet had broken during the struggle last night. Strangely, the chain that Gong Shayu regarded as her emotional anchor had left her wrist so easily, and yet she didn’t feel particularly depressed or angry.
“You can put it in the box, the innermost one.” This was Tu Si’s suggestion to her.
Tu Si had been saying it while panting, her face flushed, tears still clinging to the corners of her eyes, as she hooked her arms around Gong Shayu’s neck.
In the smoke, Gong Shayu’s thoughts drifted far away. She kept feeling that this gentle touch was familiar, and Tu Si’s tacit response felt like they had experienced this before.
Yet, in her clear memory, apart from the fleeting kiss that stopped short that night, there were no other transgressions.
Gong Shayu tried to recall again. Was it on that deserted island?
Tu Si’s waistline curve, the light flutter of her eyelashes when close, the increasingly intense floral scent, and her own feeling of suffocation, as if being entangled by vines.
Yes!
It was entanglement…
“Jie-jie, what are you doing?” Tu Si smelled the food and walked from the bedroom to the kitchen, but stood at the doorway without entering.
One stood at the front door, the other leaned against the back door. They looked at each other through the hazy kitchen smoke.
“Come here.” Gong Shayu beckoned Tu Si with a finger.
Tu Si was haphazardly wearing Gong Shayu’s pajamas, with no pants or shoes on. She simply stood on her tiptoes.
“Wait, I’ll come over.” Gong Shayu extinguished the cigarette and walked through the smoke with a complicated expression.
Miss Gong must not have cooked before. She didn’t know that if she just turned on the range hood, their meeting wouldn’t require traversing clouds and mist.
“Tu Si, I have a question for you, and you must answer truthfully.” Gong Shayu stared into Tu Si’s eyes. Unlike her many previous scrutinizing gazes, this one held a slight softness.
Tu Si’s toes instinctively curled, her most worried scenario was coming true. They had been intimate for a long time last night. In the beginning, the Cuscuta had maintained a sliver of consciousness to prevent transforming.
But as other desires and emotions erupted, Tu Si couldn’t even control her voice, let alone anything else.
Plus, she had slept so soundly that she didn’t even know when Gong Shayu woke up.
In other words… she hadn’t erased Gong Shayu’s memory!
“What kind of dance were you learning in that dance studio?”
“Huh?” Tu Si was dumbfounded, not quite understanding.
“Just… did you learn that kind of dance where there’s a steel pole stuck in front of you, and you jump around and climb up and down it?”
Tu Si: “…………”
