Chapter 64: Misjudged: “Want to join me?”
Gong Shayu dialed Tu Si’s number again, but it was still unanswered.
“President Gong, I’ve checked the security footage at all hospital entrances and exits.” Tan Ke’s voice came through the phone, hoarse. “Miss Tu was not found. She should still be in the hospital. Should I send people over?”
“Not yet.” Gong Shayu’s voice was as calm as ever, but her pace quickened.
The reason she was anxious to find Tu Si wasn’t just to share the joyous medical news.
It was mainly because she had misjudged Tu Si all along.
Gong Shayu looked at the deepening twilight. The GPS showed Tu Si’s location right here.
However, Tan Ke had searched twice and failed to find the person or Tu Si’s phone, which was why she went to check the surveillance room.
Gong Shayu got closer and closer to the red dot on the phone screen, finally seeing it overlap with a large flower pot.
Her steps suddenly halted.
In front of her was only a half-meter-tall ornamental flower pot. The withered plant inside had drooping, scorched-yellow leaves, trembling and making fragmented, sobbing sounds in the cold wind.
Gong Shayu’s pupils constricted, her throat tightening: “Tu Si?”
The withered branches trembled slightly, as if in response to her call.
A dry, fallen leaf broke free from the branch, twirled in the wind, and finally landed softly in her palm, exactly like the way Tu Si usually acted when seeking affection.
Miss Gong’s bl00d instantly froze. Her legs weakened, and she stumbled, kneeling before the flower pot.
Her fingertips trembled as she touched the cracked soil. She had never imagined Tu Si would bid her farewell in this way.
“Cici? Wake up,” Gong Shayu’s voice was no longer steady. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have…”
“Jie-jie, what are you doing squatting here?”
Tu Si’s clear voice suddenly sounded from behind, her familiar tone filled with confusion.
Gong Shayu froze, slowly turning around. “…Ah, I’m planting grass.”
Tu Si glanced at the wilted winter melon vine in the flower pot: “Don’t bother planting it. It’s dead. Many plants don’t make it through winter.”
Gong Shayu stood up and abruptly pulled Tu Si into a tight embrace. The warmth of the other’s body slowly pulled her out of her panic.
After a moment to steady herself, she asked: “Where did you go? Why didn’t you say anything and not answer your phone?”
Despite the string of questions being typical of Gong Shayu, her tone held no trace of blame, but was instead an unprecedented gentleness.
Tu Si wrapped her arms around Gong Shayu’s waist, returning the embrace with equal force: “Jie-jie, I just saw Sister Bai Ying…”
“Her stomach was huge. She said she was pregnant with a human baby, but before she could tell me where Sister Hu Die and Sister A Li were, she was captured by many humans.”
“Those people were wearing strange clothes. I didn’t dare get close.”
A chill climbed up Gong Shayu’s spine. She suddenly realized a terrifying fact: if supernatural powers truly existed in this world, then Tu Si certainly wasn’t the only exception.
This realization made her whole body cold. She tightened her grip on Tu Si’s arms. The familiar, faint floral scent on the other person became her only solace at the moment.
She couldn’t imagine what would happen if Tu Si ran into danger in the future, and she, knowing nothing about these supernatural energies, wouldn’t know how to protect her.
“Let’s go back.”
After a long pause, Gong Shayu finally said: “My body is completely better.”
Tu Si’s mood instantly soared, and her mumbling was a little too loud: “I was saying, I clearly absorbed all the poison from Jie-jie’s body…”
Gong Shayu’s steps faltered. So, there was no medical miracle at all. It was just this silly girl silently protecting her behind her back.
Miss Gong did not intend to scold her for the chop to the neck.
Tan Ke wasn’t so lucky. Ever since she accidentally ran into her boss and the wife hugging and kissing, she felt a constant chill down her back.
“Assistant Tan, don’t you have something to say to me?” Gong Shayu, the source of the cold air, finally spoke.
Tan Ke: “…”
I want to say: Boss, you found the Madam and didn’t tell me before going off to your make-out session, forcing me to wander around the hospital twice before I accidentally walked in on you two.
“Ah? I didn’t see anything, President Gong.” Assistant Tan stared straight ahead at the road, which was a path leading to the world of mortals.
Gong Shayu: “I’m not talking about that. Why did I wake up in a hospital bed?”
“?” Tan Ke: Shouldn’t you be asking your little pampered wife that?
“Ah, it was Miss Tu. Miss Tu, um, was very worried about your health and then took you to the hospital,” Tan Ke explained flawlessly.
Gong Shayu’s lips curved upward into a slightly terrifying smile: “So you just watched her mess around and knock me out right in front of you?”
In truth, Gong Shayu knew that blaming Tan Ke entirely for the sneak attack was a stretch.
But she wanted to tell Tu Si, and make her remember:
Not everything can be solved with a fist. Whatever the reason, she absolutely must not try to knock me out again.
Most importantly, she knew she couldn’t use the iron clothes hanger to teach Tu Si a lesson anymore.
Tan Ke flinched, almost making a wrong turn. “President Gong, we were also worried about your health.”
Tu Si couldn’t bear to listen anymore, vaguely feeling that she had caused trouble and let Tan Ke take the blame. So she couldn’t help but speak up in defense: “Yes, Jie-jie, we were all worried about you.”
“Ahem,” Gong Shayu coughed. “Assistant Tan, your punishment is fifty hits with the iron clothes hanger tomorrow at work. Next time you knock me out without a good reason, it’ll be a hundred.”
Tu Si’s heart trembled. The stinging pain sealed in her palm suddenly became vivid.
Tan Ke finally realized that the boss was killing her to warn Tu Si (using her as a scapegoat to send a message).
Assistant Tan cooperated wholeheartedly: “I know I was wrong, President Gong. I won’t dare to casually knock you out again!!!”
Tu Si was startled and quickly feigned sleep, terrified that the horrifying iron clothes hanger would appear in Gong Shayu’s hand the next second.
…
After arriving home, Gong Shayu stopped mentioning the incident. She told Tu Si to take a bath first. “Want to join me?”
This was usually the Cuscuta spirit’s favorite part of the day, but today she was emotionally drained and a little tired.
On one hand, she wanted to fully release her original form to relax. On the other hand, she craved Gong Shayu’s body.
So, she naively imagined a day when Gong Shayu would bathe with her and her true form: the image of her vines intertwining with that person’s damp hair in the misty water…
Miss Gong suddenly became understanding of the flower’s intention and suggested: “You take a bath on the first floor. I’ll go to the second floor.”
Tu Si’s eyes followed Gong Shayu’s retreating figure. Just as the woman was about to disappear around the corner, Tu Si secretly released an almost transparent vine to follow her into the bathroom.
Miss Gong paused in the act of undressing. Clearly visible in the bathroom mirror was a section of the translucent, gold-tinged vine, secretly climbing toward the edge of the bathtub.
Gong Shayu lowered her gaze, the corners of her lips curling into a barely perceptible arc. Then, she turned the water temperature down a few degrees.
In the warm water, the vine completely forgot itself in comfort, happily stretching its tiny body and slowly wrapping around Gong Shayu’s waist.
