Chapter 8: The Bl00d Contract
The Spirits Realize the Wisteria Flower Targeted the Wrong Person…
The meticulously prepared birthday banquet was completely ruined, and with it, the relationship between the Gong and Hao families. The two players on the chessboard of the business world intended to corner the black and white pieces, yet the pieces blatantly defied the will of their players.
As the banquet concluded, the news that #YoungMasterHao’sStepmotherBroughtADistantCousinToRuinTheStepson’sParty# spread across Z City.
On the way back, Fang Yu released Tu Si from the blacklist, saying with lingering fear, “This is too melodramatic. Young Master Hao’s stepmother wanted to find a wealthy family for her cousin. I think that girl is barely an adult…”
Fang Yu’s words trailed off abruptly when she saw the expression on Gong Shayu’s face.
“Investigate her.”
Three short words clarified Tu Si’s unique status.
…
The Wisteria Flower’s Dilemma
Tu Si was gulping down bottled water in the passenger seat. She loved the taste of this water; it reminded her of the mountains.
“Aiya, dear girl, stop drinking! You’ve had a whole box of water, your stomach will burst!” the Fox Spirit (A-Li) threatened.
In truth, for a refined plant spirit like Tu Si, that amount of water was nothing. But Tu Si was indeed scared. Hu Die had warned her before that her human body was fragile and couldn’t drink fertilizer directly, only light liquids.
However, these liquids, once consumed, were insufficient to satisfy even her basic nutritional needs, let alone facilitate cultivation. Her body felt like a rechargeable battery; until she found a power source, she could only watch her charge slowly deplete.
“I can get nourishment from Miss Gong,” Tu Si suddenly announced. “But I can’t get it from any other human.”
A-Li scoffed outwardly but inwardly twitched. Each animal spirit had a different way of acquiring nourishment, and while the spiritual energy gained determined the level of consciousness, she had never heard of a spirit that could only rely on a single human.
The Fox Spirit said, “You’ve only met a few people. Don’t jump to conclusions. And that Miss Gong… don’t provoke her unless you absolutely have to.”
Tu Si was confused. “But Sister Hu Die told me to find her, saying she was a good sponsor.”
“!” The Fox Spirit completely lost her composure and immediately called Hu Die.
After a long conversation, they realized the Wisteria Flower had targeted the wrong person…
Back at Haina Mansion, the Rabbit Spirit was also present. The three spirits opened a bottle of champagne and sat down to discuss Tu Si’s origins. Having known each other for many years, many things were understood even when only half-said. Tu Si wished she could have friends like that someday. Unfortunately, plant spirits were extremely rare; she hadn’t met another one yet.
Before the Old Banyan Tree died, it told Tu Si to find the person who had awakened her and formed a bl00d contract with her. Tu Si only knew that the person had a mole on their back.
“Little Tu Si, you still need to interact with more humans,” Hu Die said, pouring her a glass of champagne.
The Rabbit Spirit added, “Some people’s energy fields aren’t pure, so it’s normal that you can’t absorb nourishment. Even if you can absorb it from some, it’s hard to refine it into a spiritual consciousness, let alone spiritual power.”
The Fox Spirit advised, “There’s no need to cling to one tree. Put Miss Gong aside for now. Starting tomorrow, we’ll take you to meet more humans.”
“But,” Tu Si persisted, because she loved Gong Shayu’s scent, “the Heavenly God warned me, and Grandmother Banyan also said, I must find the human I formed a bl00d contract with—that person is my host, and only then can I survive.”
The three spirits, elegantly sipping champagne, all paused their movements.
“This person has a mole on their back,” Tu Si emphasized, then took a sip of soda water and let out a contented “Ah.”
The three exchanged glances. Finally, Hu Die spoke, “If the Old Banyan Tree said it, it must be true.”
The Old Banyan Tree was the earliest spirit on their mountain, though it remained in the form of a tree. Everyone present had received some form of its favor. In short, its words carried the most weight. This was why, among the countless spirits in the world, they were willing to help Tu Si; in human terms, they had lived on the same mountain and were considered distant relatives.
Tu Si felt both affection and fear for the Old Banyan Tree. Before she became a carefree Wisteria Flower, clinging to the Old Banyan Tree, all she did was sunbathe, eat, and sleep. The Banyan Grandmother, who could have easily crushed her, chose to be indulgent, allowing her to absorb its nourishment, and later its spiritual energy. Sharing stories about the outside world was the happiest time for the two plants.
Tu Si never imagined the Old Banyan Tree would die, let alone that she would become human.
She would never forget the words the Banyan Grandmother spoke just before its death: “Don’t be sad, Little Tu Si, and don’t blame yourself. Grandmother’s death has nothing to do with you; it’s simply Grandmother’s destiny. Don’t tell any human your secret.”
“Remember, before your roots wither, you must find that girl. She should be twenty-eight years old, by human reckoning, this year. She is the girl who used her bl00d to help you escape the heavenly tribulation and transform into a human. You formed a bl00d contract.”
“She has a mole on her left butterfly bone…”
The Old Banyan Tree gasped. It was reaching out frantically for Gong Shayu. She knew she was having the nightmare again.
Gong Shayu told herself to wake up. Her consciousness was so used to this scenario that it was automatically kicking in.
A light breeze stirred the sheer curtains. The alarm clock on the nightstand was about to shriek its morning call, but her slender, pale hand silenced it.
The scent of coffee and toasted bread drifted up from downstairs. Gong Shayu sat up and looked around. The clock pointed to seven; it was a normal workday morning.
The shoulder blade that had been throbbing all night told her that rain was coming. She could even gauge the intensity of the downpour from the degree of the pain.
Gong Shayu threw off the covers and got out of bed. Her bare ankles met the rug, and the soft, sinking feeling under her feet made her inexplicably irritable.
She rotated her left shoulder, trying to soothe the rampant ache.
“Third Miss, breakfast is ready,” the butler’s voice came from outside the door.
After washing up, Gong Shayu dressed and went downstairs. The fatigue from a night of nightmares and throbbing pain had vanished without a trace. With a perfectly applied makeup, she ensured she was flawless, even within her own home.
Her new apartment was being renovated. Gong Zhongshan was away on a business trip, Gong Wanting was at the film set, and the others hadn’t returned. Gong Shayu felt the air was much cleaner.
She instructed the maid to set a place at the dining table where Gong Wanting usually sat.
The butler’s chin trembled slightly. Only he knew that this was the seat Gong Shayu’s late, full-blooded older sister—the true legitimate eldest daughter of the Gong family—had loved to sit in, and today was her birthday.
After the eldest daughter’s death, everything about her became a forbidden topic in the Gong family. Only Gong Shayu would often stare at that spot lost in thought.
“Third Miss, please have breakfast,” the butler softly reminded her. “Today is your first day in your new position, you mustn’t be late.”
Despite the failure of the Gong-Hao alliance, Gong Zhongshan’s promise to her remained unchanged.
Gong Shayu was officially starting her role as CEO of ICC Resorts, the resort series under the Gong Group’s investment division.
