The Cold Goddess Always Wants to Turn Me Gay (GL) - Chapter 12
You Are a Luxury I Can Only Long For but Never Reach
When Lu Chen came back, Wei Zhi was already asleep. Yu Xinxin sat by her bedside, looking pitiful. As Lu Chen walked over, he noticed her swollen eyes and felt a soft ache in his heart. He spoke gently, “It’s okay now. Don’t worry.”
“Mm.” Xinxin lowered her eyes and gave a quiet hum in response.
Lu Chen looked at her—she looked drained. He tried to comfort her softly, “Look at you. You cried so much, like a little kitten. Go wash your face. I’ll stay here and watch over Wei Zhi for you. She won’t go anywhere.”
“You’re the one who looks like a little kitten,” Xinxin muttered. She had just been scared by everything that happened, but now that things had calmed down and Lu Chen was both comforting and teasing her, she started to feel better.
Lu Chen reached out and patted her head. It was soft and fluffy—just like her. She was someone who needed to be taken care of.
Xinxin pushed his hand away, looking annoyed, and frowned at him.
“Stop touching my head all the time,” she said as she smoothed her hair. “I’ll go wash my face.”
Lu Chen smiled gently. “Go ahead.”
Xinxin stood and went to the bathroom.
Lu Chen turned to look at Wei Zhi lying in bed. Her features were calm and elegant, her skin pale from illness. Still, she looked breathtaking. So this was the campus beauty from the painting department that Da Qing had mentioned. He hadn’t expected her to be Xinxin’s roommate.
Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding…
A cheerful ringtone suddenly rang out. Wei Zhi, in her sleep, furrowed her brow. Lu Chen instinctively covered the speaker and glanced at the caller ID. His expression turned complicated—it was Qin Rui. He walked to the bathroom door and knocked.
“Xinxin, it’s Qin Rui calling.”
At that moment, Xinxin had just finished washing her face. She was sitting on the toilet and couldn’t come out right away. She called out softly, “Can you answer it for me? Tell him I can’t go to his place.”
Lu Chen looked troubled. Ever since the fight between him and Qin Rui, things had been awkward—especially after Qin Rui pointed out a truth Lu Chen hadn’t even realized himself. He glanced at the phone, hesitated, and then answered it.
“Hello.”
“Why is it you? Where’s Xinxin?” The voice on the other end was surprised.
“Xinxin asked me to tell you she can’t go to your place,” Lu Chen replied, keeping things short.
“Why are you with Xinxin?” After the surprise passed, Qin Rui began to question him.
“I’m a student at Jiang University. Why wouldn’t I be with her?” Lu Chen replied, clearly aware of the suspicion in Qin Rui’s tone.
“You actually went to Jiang University?” Qin Rui sounded shocked. Of all places, he had gone to Jiang U? He could get into any school he wanted—but he chose Jiang U?
After the call ended, Qin Rui chuckled bitterly. In the end, he still couldn’t compare to Lu Chen. He had once thought it was just their backgrounds that were different. But deep down, he knew—Lu Chen was better at everything: studies, charm… even when it came to Xinxin.
In the dim room, Qin Rui sat in silence for a long time. He looked at the documents on his desk. Once again, he had a choice to make.
Lu Chen stared at the phone after the call ended, annoyed. That guy actually hung up on him.
Xinxin stepped out of the bathroom and saw Lu Chen looking like he was ready to fight someone. Her heart skipped a beat. Oh no, I totally forgot—these two are still at odds!
“You two didn’t argue, did you?” she asked, sneaking a peek at Lu Chen. When she saw his dark expression as he turned his face away, she immediately snatched the phone and said, “I’ll go call him back outside.”
“Don’t… don’t leave me.”
A desperate cry rang out behind her. Xinxin’s heart dropped, and she stopped in her tracks.
Wei Zhi seemed to be having a nightmare. Her face was pale, tears at the corners of her eyes. Her voice trembled as she reached out weakly into the air. Xinxin jumped in fright, quickly ran over, and held her hand, speaking in a trembling voice, “I’m here. It’s okay. Don’t worry.”
But Wei Zhi didn’t respond. She was trapped in a nightmare, crying like an abandoned child—fragile and full of despair. Xinxin had never seen her like this. Even when Wei Zhi had been in so much pain before, she had still comforted her. Now Xinxin panicked, tears welling up again. She kept repeating, “I won’t leave you. I’m right here. Don’t cry, okay?”
Little by little, Wei Zhi seemed to hear her voice and slowly calmed down. After some quiet sobbing, she finally drifted back into deep sleep, tightly clutching Xinxin’s hand as if it were her lifeline.
When Xinxin saw her calming down, she let out a breath and tried to pull her hand back—but no use. Wei Zhi wouldn’t let go.
Lu Chen had stood by, helpless as both girls cried. Now that things had settled, he relaxed too. He handed Xinxin a few tissues, speaking gently, “Wipe your tears. You just cleaned up, and now you’re a little kitten again.”
Xinxin took the tissue with her free hand and gently wiped Wei Zhi’s face first, afraid to wake her. Lu Chen sighed and handed her a few more tissues.
Eventually, Wei Zhi slept peacefully. Though still pale, her expression was calm. But she held onto Xinxin’s hand like she’d never let go. Xinxin let her be.
“You should go home and get some rest,” she told Lu Chen quietly. “It should be fine now.”
“I’ll stay with you,” Lu Chen said.
“No need. Don’t you have a game tomorrow? If you stay up all night here, how will you play?”
“It’s okay. I’m strong and healthy. No sleep won’t hurt me,” Lu Chen replied confidently, patting his chest.
“I’m really fine. Don’t worry,” Xinxin insisted.
“Okay, okay, stop talking. I—” Before he could finish, his phone rang. He picked it up.
“Hello? What happened?”
“…”
“What? How could that happen?” His tone turned urgent.
He glanced at Xinxin, hesitating. “Are you really okay by yourself?”
Xinxin could tell it was something important. She nodded quickly. “I’m fine. Go.”
“Okay. I’m coming now,” Lu Chen said into the phone before hanging up. He explained to Xinxin, “Da Qing got beat up. He’s at the police station. I have to go check on him.”
“What? Then go!”
“If anything happens, call me,” he said, glancing back one more time before leaving.
Suddenly, the hand holding hers tightened. Xinxin’s heart sank. She turned to look at Wei Zhi, who was still asleep. She relaxed. Tear stains still clung to her face, her long lashes damp. But at least her expression was peaceful now. Aside from being pale, there was nothing else wrong.
Without her usual cool, distant air, Wei Zhi looked so fragile. What kind of dream had made her cry like that?
Lost in thought, sleep crept up on Xinxin. She wanted to lie down on the nearby couch, but as soon as she tried to pull her hand free, Wei Zhi gripped it tighter. Xinxin sighed. Never mind. She’d just lean on the bed and nap like this.
The next morning, just as dawn broke, Wei Zhi opened her eyes. She hadn’t slept so well in a long time. Even though she’d dreamed of that day again, someone had been talking to her in the dream. A soft, trembling voice kept telling her not to cry—that she wouldn’t be left behind. She didn’t know why, but hearing that voice calmed her down and let her sleep peacefully again.
She suddenly remembered being rushed to the hospital with stomach pain. She remembered the girl crying in panic. She tried to sit up, but found her hand holding something. Looking down, she saw a fluffy head resting beside the bed. The girl smacked her lips in her sleep. Their hands were still intertwined. So it was you, Wei Zhi thought with a gentle smile. Her eyes softened, glowing with quiet beauty.
Sensing something, Xinxin opened her eyes. Her neck was sore, and she frowned. When she looked up and saw Wei Zhi watching her with a warm smile, she froze. Seriously? Looking this charming first thing in the morning? That should be illegal.
“You’re awake. Does it still hurt?” she asked, trying to sound caring despite her inner complaints.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore,” Wei Zhi shook her head. She glanced at their joined hands and asked, “Have you been with me the whole time?”
“Yeah,” Xinxin stood up and stretched, only then realizing they were still holding hands. She looked awkward. “Um, you refused to sleep unless you were holding my hand.”
“Okay, my fault,” Wei Zhi replied, her tone unconsciously gentle.
“It is your fault. See if you dare drink again,” Xinxin huffed. Though honestly, she wasn’t sure anymore—maybe she had grabbed Wei Zhi’s hand first?
“I’ll never drink again,” Wei Zhi said solemnly, though in her heart she thought, If I get someone to stay with me every time, then maybe a drink or two isn’t so bad.
Then she asked, “You didn’t go to BeiQing?”
At the mention of that, Xinxin suddenly felt a bit upset. “How could I go when you were like this?”
Wei Zhi’s smile disappeared. Right. Xinxin had planned to see someone important. And she had ruined it.
“I’m sorry.”
Seeing her expression change, Xinxin quickly said, “No, it’s not your fault. I wasn’t blaming you. You didn’t mean for this to happen. Don’t feel bad, okay?”
Wei Zhi laughed softly, “Alright. I won’t feel guilty then.”
“…”
Xinxin stared at her. Just a second ago, she looked all sad and guilty, and now she was all smiles? Where was her cold, untouchable persona?
What Xinxin didn’t see was the desire behind Wei Zhi’s smile—something deep and hidden. A longing too far to reach.
