- Chapter 21 - Come on a Honeymoon With Me
Early the next morning.
Yu Xinxin felt that she had slept especially well. In her dream, she was in a warm and cozy place, and surprisingly, she felt very safe.
She stretched lazily, and her fingertips touched something soft. She gave it a squeeze—it felt nice. Still half-asleep, she opened her eyes and saw a beautiful face right in front of her, smiling and winking at her. Last night’s memories rushed back. Realizing her current situation, Xinxin froze, her face full of embarrassment and shame. Just as she was about to speak, the other person beat her to it.
“You’d better take a look. You’re the one holding me. I didn’t even move.”
Xinxin looked down. Her pale skin turned red. Wei Zhi was still lying in the same position as last night, but she, like an octopus, was clinging tightly to her.
Wei Zhi looked at her and raised her eyebrows.
Xinxin rolled away like she had been shocked, her whole face now red to the ears. From the looks of it, maybe Wei Zhi should be the one cautious of her.
“If I knew you liked being the active one, I would’ve let you take the lead,” Wei Zhi joked.
“…” Where’s a hole she could crawl into?
Wei Zhi was in a great mood and didn’t tease her anymore. She rubbed her head gently and said in a soft voice, “Come on, get up. Let’s go out for breakfast.”
Then she got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up.
Xinxin took a deep breath to calm down. While Wei Zhi was busy in the bathroom, she quickly changed her clothes.
When Wei Zhi came out, Xinxin was already dressed. Wei Zhi’s eyelids twitched a little, but she just smiled and didn’t say anything.
Wei Zhi took out some clothes from the closet and turned to Xinxin. “There are new toiletries in the bathroom drawer. Just use those.”
“Okay.”
Xinxin saw her start to take off her bathrobe and her ears turned red. She quickly walked into the bathroom.
Seeing her flustered expression, Wei Zhi covered her mouth and laughed quietly. Looks like if she wanted to win this beauty’s heart, she still had a long way to go.
Buzz buzz buzz…
The phone rang. Wei Zhi picked it up. But when she saw the name on the screen, her smile vanished. Her brows tightened, and a cold, stormy look filled her eyes. With a swift motion, she hung up and turned off the phone.
Xinxin opened the drawer and, as expected, saw the new toiletries. Same color, same brand—just like the ones already on the sink. Was Wei Zhi really living alone here? Where was her family? Has she always been alone?
Thinking of that cold and distant face, her heart tightened. She must feel really lonely.
When Xinxin finished washing up and came out, she saw Wei Zhi standing alone on the balcony, arms crossed, looking into the distance. A light shawl rested loosely over her shoulders. The cool morning sunlight fell gently on her, making her look calm and elegant. It was a beautiful scene, but Xinxin had a strange feeling—as if this person could disappear at any moment. It wasn’t the first time she felt this way. Except for the hospital and last night, she always felt that Wei Zhi didn’t really belong in her world.
She cleared her thoughts and opened the balcony door.
Wei Zhi turned around when she heard the sound. Her cold eyes were now filled with a gentle smile. The sudden softness in her face made Xinxin feel dazed. Was she imagining it? Or just making it up in her head?
They took the elevator down to the basement garage. Wei Zhi pressed the unlock button, and a red Ferrari nearby flashed its lights. The bright red car looked completely opposite of her calm and cool image. Wei Zhi opened the door and motioned for Xinxin to get in.
Xinxin tried to hide her shock. It was her first time riding in such a fancy car. What did Wei Zhi’s family do? Own a gold mine? Had she just landed herself a rich woman?
She turned to look at Wei Zhi suspiciously.
Wei Zhi put on her sunglasses. Her cool eyes now hidden in shadow, she noticed Xinxin staring and smirked. “How does it feel to be with a rich woman?”
Xinxin: “…” Can this woman read minds?
Xinxin turned away and forced a calm face. “Doesn’t feel like anything.”
Wei Zhi leaned over, and suddenly they were very close. Their breaths mixed. Xinxin felt her body tense instantly. So did Wei Zhi. She looked at the face just inches away and sighed silently. She pushed down her disappointment and patiently helped Xinxin with the seatbelt. Then she sat up straight and started the car.
Xinxin let out a breath. Since Wei Zhi didn’t try anything, she felt a little bad. Maybe she was being too sensitive. After all, besides that surprise kiss last night, Wei Zhi hadn’t done anything inappropriate.
Through the rearview mirror, Wei Zhi noticed Xinxin spacing out and asked, “What do you want to eat?”
Xinxin snapped out of it. “Anything’s fine. I’m not picky.”
Wei Zhi now had a place in mind. She stepped on the gas, and once out of the apartment, the car turned onto a wide road.
About ten minutes later, they stopped at a breakfast place.
After getting out of the car, Xinxin looked at the restaurant in front of her and let out a breath. Thankfully, it wasn’t some super fancy place. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that Wei Zhi was rich. After all, she didn’t act like it. Her clothes, food, and lifestyle were just like everyone else’s.
The place seemed really popular. There was already a long line outside and the inside was packed. Xinxin frowned. With this many people, how long would they have to wait?
Wei Zhi took her hand and walked past the line straight to the entrance. A few people in the queue grumbled in protest.
“Why are they cutting in line?”
“Yeah, we’ve been waiting here.”
“…”
Xinxin held Wei Zhi’s hand tighter and glanced at the people talking. “Should we line up too?”
“No need,” Wei Zhi said. “It’s fine. We can just go in.”
It was Xinxin’s first time cutting in line. Her face felt hot. She kept her head down as Wei Zhi pulled her inside.
The restaurant was full of chatter. Xinxin glanced around. It was clean and tidy. Other than the crowd, everything seemed nice.
The owner behind the counter had just finished helping a customer. When he saw the two girls walk in, his eyes lit up and he greeted them warmly, “Xiao Wei! Your table is still reserved upstairs. Go ahead!”
Wei Zhi nodded. “Thanks, Uncle Zhou. Two sets of breakfast. The usual.”
Xinxin looked confused. Did Wei Zhi know the owner?
“Come on.”
Wei Zhi took her hand. Her soft fingers made her smile a little as they walked upstairs. The second floor was much nicer than the first. There were partitions between tables. Wei Zhi led her to a window seat and gestured for her to sit.
Xinxin noticed a sign on the table: ‘VIP Guest Only.’ She watched as Wei Zhi took off her sunglasses and asked, “Are you a VIP here? They saved this seat just for you?”
“You could say that,” Wei Zhi said. “I’m part-owner of this restaurant.”
Xinxin was stunned. “What?”
Wei Zhi saw her reaction and thought she looked cute. She chuckled and explained, “A year ago, this place was doing really badly. It almost closed down. I got used to eating breakfast here, so I helped the owner. He used the money to renovate and expand. Business got better and better. He wanted to pay me back, but I didn’t want it. So he insisted on giving me a share. Now every time I come, I don’t have to pay.”
Xinxin looked around at the warm and clean design. It clearly took effort—and money. Upstairs and downstairs combined, it couldn’t have been cheap. But Wei Zhi was still a student. She hadn’t even graduated high school a year ago. Where did she get that kind of money?
“What exactly does your family do?” Xinxin couldn’t help but ask.
“They own a company,” Wei Zhi answered.
“Are you very rich?”
“Sort of,” she said softly, clearly not wanting to talk about it more. She looked out the window and changed the subject. “There are five days left in the National Day holiday. Any plans?”
Xinxin came back to her senses and thought seriously. She had come here originally to see Qin Rui. Now that they had broken up—and somehow she had a new girlfriend—it all felt surreal. She rubbed her temples and said helplessly:
“I don’t know. I don’t have any plans.”
Wei Zhi rested her chin on her hand, lips curling up as if she had expected that answer all along.
Xinxin saw her expression and knew something was coming. Sure enough, before she could speak, Wei Zhi leaned forward slightly and said:
“If you’re free, come on a honeymoon with me. We should celebrate our official relationship.”
A server who had just walked up overheard that sentence and nearly dropped the breakfast tray. She stared at the two beautiful girls in surprise, then quickly turned red, set down the food, and rushed away.
