- Chapter 23 - How to Comfort Your Angry Girlfriend
Yu Xinxin was stunned. Her surprise was no less than when Wei Zhi kissed her the night before. All this time, Wei Zhi had seemed untouchable in her mind—like some aloof, graceful heroine from a martial arts novel. If Wei Zhi’s confession had dragged that goddess down from her pedestal, then the current Wei Zhi had not only fallen but also turned into a jealous, sulking, little wife.
Wei Zhi continued to silently generate cold air in the car. Meanwhile, Yu Xinxin was having the time of her life. First, her lips curled up. Then she covered her mouth to stifle her laughter. In the end, she couldn’t hold it in. She lowered her head, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably while struggling to suppress her gleeful giggles.
Wei Zhi noticed Yu Xinxin’s shaking body and frowned in concern. She had seemed off for a while now—her body trembling, strange sounds coming from her throat… Was she in pain? Was something wrong?
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?” Wei Zhi spoke quickly, setting aside her own uneasy feelings as she pulled the car over to the emergency lane.
“N-No… ha… nothing…” Yu Xinxin couldn’t take it anymore and finally burst into laughter when she saw the confusion on Wei Zhi’s face.
“Hahaha!”
Wei Zhi frowned even deeper. But clearly, Yu Xinxin wasn’t in pain, which made her feel relieved—only for her earlier discomfort to return tenfold as she shot Yu Xinxin a cold glare.
Tears welled up in Yu Xinxin’s eyes from laughing so hard. Clutching her stomach, she gasped, “I—I can’t… This is killing me.”
Wei Zhi stared at her with a blank expression but still reached one hand over to help her catch her breath. Once Yu Xinxin calmed down, Wei Zhi tugged at her lips and asked coldly, “Are you done?”
Her voice was chilly, each word stretched out just enough to make the air feel icy again. Yu Xinxin rubbed the goosebumps on her arms—yeah, she’d laughed enough. She shrank her neck and said weakly, “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have laughed at you.”
“Laugh at me?” Wei Zhi raised an eyebrow, eyes darkening. “What exactly were you laughing at?”
Only then did Yu Xinxin finally sense danger. Was she… angry?
She stuck her tongue out, trying to make herself look small and harmless. “Were you… jealous?”
Wei Zhi froze slightly. She had felt uncomfortable earlier after seeing the group chat and barely said a word during the drive. She thought she’d feel better once they got to their destination, but she hadn’t expected that strange feeling to be jealousy. It was new—stifling, sour, and a little frustrating.
“No,” Wei Zhi denied stubbornly. She understood what was going on in her heart, but there was no way she’d admit it aloud.
Yu Xinxin rolled her eyes. “Sure, sure. Whatever you say.”
Her reaction annoyed Wei Zhi even more. Her gaze darkened, a clear ‘I’m mad and you’re not even trying to comfort me’ showing on her face.
She waited for a bit, but Yu Xinxin said nothing.
Wei Zhi’s expression grew colder. After taking a deep breath, she grabbed Yu Xinxin’s chin with both hands, tilted her face up, and lowered her head to kiss her.
Yu Xinxin’s eyes flew wide open, her pupils shrinking in shock.
At first, Wei Zhi only meant to ‘punish’ her a little. But the sweetness she tasted made her reluctant to stop. The girl’s soft scent clouded her senses—she wanted more…
Yu Xinxin snapped out of her daze after a brief moment and started struggling. But the difference in strength between them was too great—her resistance was useless.
Wei Zhi narrowed her eyes and traced her tongue along Yu Xinxin’s lips as if soothing her.
“Be good. Open your mouth.” Her voice was soft, lingering at Yu Xinxin’s lips with a coaxing tone.
Every nerve in Yu Xinxin’s body tensed. Her scalp tingled as she sensed Wei Zhi trying to push further. In a panic, she bit down.
Wei Zhi flinched at the sudden pain and pulled back.
“Hiss…” She stuck her tongue out and licked her lips. Her eyes still held a lingering spark from just moments before, and her lips were flushed red. If one looked closely, faint teeth marks could be seen. “Why did you bite me?”
Yu Xinxin glared at her, out of breath.
“You… you…” She ‘you’d’ for a while but couldn’t finish her sentence.
Wei Zhi waited leisurely but felt a bit disappointed when she didn’t get a response. I kissed her so well just now…
Yu Xinxin snatched a tissue and roughly wiped her lips, spitting repeatedly as if she’d just swallowed a fly. Her face was full of disgust, and her soft pink lips quickly became swollen and red.
Seeing her lips getting more swollen by the second made Wei Zhi frown. “If you don’t stop, I’ll just kiss you again.”
It worked instantly. Yu Xinxin’s hand froze mid-wipe. Unable to vent her frustration, she could only glare at Wei Zhi, looking like a furious little rabbit ready to bite.
Wei Zhi’s mood improved in an instant. She reached out to ruffle Yu Xinxin’s hair, satisfied.
“Good girl.” She paused, then added, “If I get mad in the future, you have to coax me, or else…” She stared at Yu Xinxin’s flushed lips for a moment, like a hungry wolf staring at its next meal.
Yu Xinxin dodged her hand, clearly upset. You promised not to touch me without my consent—liar, big liar…
She turned her head away, refusing to look at Wei Zhi, pouting angrily. She looked… kind of cute.
Wei Zhi chuckled lightly, clearly pleased, and restarted the car, merging back into traffic.
For the rest of the drive, Yu Xinxin didn’t say a single word. It seemed she wasn’t planning on acknowledging Wei Zhi anytime soon.
At first, Wei Zhi was still in a good mood while driving, but as time passed, she realized something was wrong. Looks like she had been too impatient just now. Even though they were dating, Yu Xinxin clearly hadn’t fully accepted things yet. She needed to be more careful about boundaries.
They arrived at the hotel around one in the afternoon.
Yu Xinxin still wasn’t speaking to her, which gave Wei Zhi a headache. How are you supposed to comfort an angry girlfriend?
The hotel suite had great lighting. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, they had a full view of Xinyue Beach. Clear blue waves rolled endlessly onto the shore, where a large crowd of people gathered—like swarms of ants from afar.
Wei Zhi pulled her gaze away and looked toward the guest room. Yu Xinxin had locked herself inside for half an hour already.
She felt regret bubbling up—she shouldn’t have acted so rashly.
Wei Zhi had never been close with many people and had no one to seek advice from. After thinking it over, she grabbed her phone and opened a chat.
Wei Zhi: I need to ask you something.
Zhou Tong, who had been busy singing karaoke, caught sight of the notification and blinked in surprise when she saw who it was from.
Zhou Tong: What’s up, Xiaozhi? Ask away—nothing I can’t answer!
Wei Zhi: My partner is mad. How do I comfort her?
Yu Xinxin’s closest friend was Zhou Tong, so she figured Zhou Tong would know best how to cheer her up.
Zhou Tong almost dropped her phone. Wei Zhi’s dating someone?? Who was the lucky guy? What about her beloved ‘CP’ (couple pairing)?!
Wait… no… Xinxin has a boyfriend already.
Wei Zhi: It’s… for a friend.
Clearly, Yu Xinxin wasn’t ready to make their relationship public.
Another ‘it’s for a friend’ excuse. Zhou Tong’s mood plummeted. Naturally, she wasn’t too focused on her answer—her head still filled with despair over her ruined ‘CP.’
Wei Zhi: Any ideas?
Zhou Tong: Just give her something she likes—food, gifts, whatever. Cater to her tastes.
Suddenly, Zhou Tong’s food didn’t taste good anymore, her music felt off, and her mood tanked.
Wei Zhi mulled over Zhou Tong’s words. Cater to her tastes… What did Yu Xinxin like? She loved the meat buns from the food stall near school—but that wasn’t an option here. She also liked snacks… Wei Zhi glanced at the pile of snacks on the couch, half a bag already ripped open. That didn’t seem right either.
Her eyes finally landed on a brochure on the coffee table—local seafood specialties displayed on the cover. Yu Xinxin liked seafood, didn’t she? That might work.
Meanwhile, Yu Xinxin had been sulking in her room ever since she stormed off. She regretted softening up and agreeing to come with Wei Zhi in the first place. The thought stuck with her—until…
Growl…
She rubbed her stomach—oh, right, she hadn’t eaten lunch yet.
It was already 1:30.
Maybe I should forgive her this one time… No point going hungry over this. I can still be mad after I eat.
Wei Zhi hesitated, organizing her thoughts before knocking on the door.
“Xinxin, I was wrong earlier. I’ll respect your feelings from now on.”
“…”
“Are you hungry? How about we grab something to eat first?”
Wei Zhi listened carefully, hoping for a response, but none came. She felt a pang of disappointment.
“The seafood here is pretty famous… Want to give it a try?”
“…”
She waited again—nothing. This isn’t working… I need a new plan.
Just as she was about to give up and leave, she heard a soft ‘click.’ The door opened, revealing Yu Xinxin’s not-so-friendly expression.
“I want to eat.”
