Yu Xinxin was still a little upset. But no matter how unhappy she was, she still had to eat.
Wei Zhi quietly let out a sigh of relief and secretly glanced at Yu Xinxin’s face.
The corners of her mouth were turned down. She looked a bit annoyed. Wei Zhi knew she hadn’t calmed down yet—but at least she was willing to talk again.
The two of them tidied up a little and left the hotel.
The weather today was beautiful. The soft sunlight wasn’t too hot. It actually felt nice. The salty, damp smell of the sea drifted in from nearby.
Right across from the hotel was the beach. As soon as Yu Xinxin stepped out, she was drawn to the view. The blue sea, the soft sand, and the crowd of people going back and forth… If her stomach hadn’t been growling, she would have rushed over and walked barefoot in the sand.
Yu Xinxin’s eyes sparkled. Wei Zhi saw it and wanted to laugh. But since they hadn’t eaten lunch yet, she felt it was more important to feed themselves first.
Wei Zhi said, “Let’s go eat first. We can come back later.”
Yu Xinxin pouted. “Fine.”
It was her first time seeing the sea, so of course it all felt very new. If Wei Zhi had asked her to go somewhere else right then, she probably would’ve agreed without thinking.
They were heading to a popular food street nearby. One of the shops there was a famous internet-famous restaurant. It was around a ten-minute walk from the hotel, so they decided to walk.
On the way, Yu Xinxin didn’t say a word. She still seemed bothered about what happened earlier that morning.
Wei Zhi thought she should say something to ease the tension. But what exactly? She was a bit lost—this kind of situation was new to her, too.
Yu Xinxin wasn’t actually mad anymore. She was just so hungry… that she forgot she was mad in the first place.
As they got closer to their destination, the crowd grew noticeably bigger. Even though lunch hour had passed, the food street was still buzzing with people.
The air was filled with the smell of all kinds of delicious food. Yu Xinxin, already starving, was drawn in by the aroma. Her mouth started to water. She didn’t care anymore. She grabbed Wei Zhi’s hand and rushed toward the shop.
Wei Zhi was stunned for a moment. But then her cool eyes lit up with a smile. She looked down at their joined hands, feeling the warmth in her palm. Her uneasy heart slowly calmed. A quiet, deep sense of peace filled her—something she hadn’t felt in so long. After spending so much time in the dark, she never thought happiness could be this simple.
They were lucky. As soon as they got to the shop, a table opened up. After sitting down, Yu Xinxin picked up the menu, her eyes fixed on the list of dishes.
Wei Zhi didn’t look at the menu. Her gaze stayed on Yu Xinxin. The girl’s eyes were shining, her lips curved in a bright smile, and her pen moved quickly from one dish to another. It looked like she was about to drool.
Wei Zhi said softly, “Not mad anymore?”
Yu Xinxin paused. She finally remembered she was supposed to be angry. Her smile faded. She looked serious and asked, “What do you want to eat?”
Wei Zhi smiled. “Anything’s fine. I’ll eat whatever you like.”
Yu Xinxin’s eyes shifted. “What if I order something you don’t like?”
Wei Zhi chuckled. “If you order it, I’ll like it.”
Yu Xinxin glanced at her, then cheekily added a few words at the end of the menu before handing it to the waiter.
She turned to Wei Zhi with an innocent smile and said sweetly, “You said it yourself.”
Wei Zhi suddenly had a bad feeling, but she didn’t know why. That uneasy feeling didn’t go away until the dishes were served—and then she understood what Yu Xinxin meant.
When the food was all on the table, Wei Zhi couldn’t even smile. Every dish was spicy and full of strong flavors. But since she already said she’d eat whatever Yu Xinxin ordered, she couldn’t go back on her word now.
Yu Xinxin spoke in a soft voice, “If you can’t handle it, you can order something else.”
But her face clearly said: If you dare not eat, I’ll get mad again.
Wei Zhi sighed silently. She gave in, picked up her chopsticks, and took a piece of squid. She brought it to her lips and took a bite. The burning spicy taste hit her throat. She coughed a few times. Her pale cheeks flushed red—it was actually kind of attractive under the warm lights.
Now it was Yu Xinxin’s turn to stop smiling. She saw Wei Zhi still trying to eat and couldn’t help saying, “Are you dumb? Do you just eat whatever people give you?”
Wei Zhi took a sip of water. The spicy taste faded a bit. She heard the displeasure in Yu Xinxin’s tone and answered, “As long as it makes you happy, I’ll do it.”
Yu Xinxin got even angrier. This woman looks smart, but now she’s acting stupid.
Wei Zhi reached for a piece of shrimp next, covered in hot chili peppers. Yu Xinxin slapped her hand away and snapped, “Stop eating. Did you forget you just got out of the hospital?”
Wei Zhi asked, “So… are you still mad?”
Yu Xinxin said, “I haven’t been mad for a while. I wouldn’t have even remembered if you hadn’t brought it up.”
Wei Zhi fell silent. Did I just dig my own grave…?
Not far away, the waiter saw Yu Xinxin signal and came over to place a bowl of seafood porridge on the table.
