- Chapter 26 - A Strange and Vivid Dream
Sensing that Yu Xinxin was unhappy, Wei Zhi instinctively started to reflect.
Was she angry again?
Why this time?
Yu Xinxin herself didn’t know why. She just felt stuffy inside. And seeing Wei Zhi’s innocent-looking face made her even more annoyed.
Why was she always so careless? The way she looked just now—if they hadn’t been at a crowded tourist spot during the day, but instead in a dark alley or a quiet place where no one was watching…
Yu Xinxin didn’t want to think any further.
“What do you want for dinner?” After another round of guessing, Wei Zhi still didn’t know what had upset her, so she tried to test the waters.
It wasn’t until they stepped into the elevator that Yu Xinxin finally let go of Wei Zhi’s hand, still without saying a word.
“There’s a night market nearby. Want to check it out later?” Wei Zhi asked again, trying to continue the conversation.
Yu Xinxin gave her a stingy glance. She was half a head shorter than Wei Zhi, so her eyes landed right at Wei Zhi’s chin. A small upward glance, and she saw those soft, rosy lips. Her heart skipped a beat. She looked away quickly. Her eyes followed the curve of Wei Zhi’s figure down to her waist and hips, all the way to her lower belly, before she forced herself to stop looking. Her cheeks started to feel hot.
“Go back and change clothes,” she said stiffly.
Wei Zhi looked down at herself, paused, and her face turned a bit awkward. They had played too wildly earlier, and she hadn’t noticed her messy state. Thinking about how she had walked on the beach like this made her feel slightly embarrassed.
When she looked at Yu Xinxin again, she finally noticed something different—her gaze was avoiding hers, her cheeks were a bit red, and there was a hint of frustration that even Yu Xinxin didn’t seem to realize. That had never happened before.
This small discovery made Wei Zhi very happy.
Was Xinxin starting to see her as more than just a best friend?
Could this be the start of something?
Yu Xinxin looked at Wei Zhi, unsure what she was thinking about, smiling to herself like a fool.
Is she really that happy being stared at by all those people?
Back in their room, Yu Xinxin couldn’t stand the sticky feeling on her skin anymore. She grabbed her clothes and rushed to the bathroom. Luckily, the suite had two bathrooms, so she didn’t need to worry about Wei Zhi catching a cold in wet clothes.
Wei Zhi watched her charge into the bathroom, then calmly returned to the main bedroom, picked out some clothes, and went to shower.
The warm water flowed over her skin, washing away the sticky feeling—and quietly washing away the little strangeness she hadn’t dared to name.
Twenty minutes later, Yu Xinxin came out of the bathroom feeling clean and refreshed. After playing for so long, she was a bit tired. She poured herself a cup of hot water and sat on the sofa, sipping slowly.
A few moments later, Wei Zhi came out of the main bedroom. She had changed too—this time no dress, just a simple shirt and long pants, covering herself from head to toe.
Yu Xinxin nodded in approval in her mind.
That’s better!
Now she won’t attract more unwanted attention. It’s too dangerous.
Wei Zhi looked at her. Yu Xinxin’s brows were drooping, her eyes looked tired, and she seemed worn out.
“Are you tired?” Wei Zhi asked.
Yu Xinxin yawned. Yesterday had been full of ups and downs—it had drained her mentally. She went to bed late, and though she had slept well, all the activity earlier had worn her out. Now she was sleepy.
“Yeah,” she nodded.
Wei Zhi glanced at the time—it was past 4 p.m., still a while before dinner.
“Then let’s rest for a bit. We can go to the night market later,” Wei Zhi suggested.
“Okay.” Yu Xinxin blinked her tired eyes and headed to the second bedroom. Wei Zhi followed behind.
Yu Xinxin shivered and gave her a sideways look. “Why are you following me?”
Wei Zhi smiled. “To keep you company.”
Yu Xinxin replied, “Go back to your own room to sleep.”
She said it like she was guarding against a thief, then darted into the second bedroom and slammed the door shut with a bang.
