- Chapter 27 - Little Wolf Ears and Little Bunny Ears
The night market was even more crowded than the snack street at noon. People were shoulder to shoulder, pushing and squeezing. If you weren’t careful, you could easily get separated.
Wei Zhi hesitated for a second, then reached out and held Yu Xinxin’s hand. It was soft and smooth. She couldn’t help but give it a little squeeze.
Yu Xinxin looked at her, confused. Holding hands was fine… but why the squeeze?
Wei Zhi’s eyes looked a bit awkward. She glanced around, then said calmly, “Too many people. Don’t want to get lost.”
Yu Xinxin stared at her but didn’t say anything. She let Wei Zhi hold her hand.
There were many stalls in this part of the night market. Food, clothes, toys—everything was there.
Yu Xinxin rubbed her empty belly. She always got hungry easily.
“Let’s eat first,” she suggested.
“Okay.”
After they were full, Yu Xinxin felt like she had recovered all her energy. She pulled Wei Zhi along and visited shop after shop.
They walked into a small accessory store. The place was filled with shiny, colorful things. Yu Xinxin’s eyes were dazzled. Her gaze stopped on a pair of fluffy bunny ears—a headband. She looked at the person beside her. Wei Zhi didn’t seem interested in cute girly things. Her expression was calm.
Noticing Yu Xinxin’s gaze, Wei Zhi looked down. “What is it?”
Yu Xinxin suddenly wanted to tease her. Her eyes sparkled as she waved at Wei Zhi to come closer.
Wei Zhi was confused but leaned in. Just as she was about to speak, something suddenly landed on her head. She reached up and touched it—fluffy. She looked in the mirror next to her.
In the reflection, two soft bunny ears sat on top of her head. She frowned and raised her hand to take them off.
Yu Xinxin looked very satisfied. Seeing Wei Zhi about to remove them, she quickly stopped her. “Don’t take them off. They look good on you. Really suit you.”
Usually, Wei Zhi looked cool and distant, like an ice queen. Now, with bunny ears, she looked cute and soft. That coldness in her eyes faded a little, and she looked more… human.
She said it playfully, but Wei Zhi didn’t really believe it. She still wanted to take them off but was afraid Yu Xinxin might get upset.
“If they look so good, why don’t you wear them?” Wei Zhi asked, her hand still on the headband. She didn’t think it fit her at all.
Without thinking, Yu Xinxin grabbed another bunny ear headband and put it on. “Now it’s fair.”
Wei Zhi’s hand froze in place. She still wanted to take it off, but Yu Xinxin looked so soft and sweet with the bunny ears on. Her heart softened too. She changed her mind—but deep down, she still felt the bunny ears didn’t match her vibe.
Wei Zhi looked around the shelf. Among all the bunny ears, she spotted a few small wolf ears in gray. Something flashed in her eyes, and she smiled.
She picked up a wolf ear headband, took off the bunny ears, and put the wolf ears on instead.
She checked herself in the mirror and smiled, clearly pleased.
“How about this? You wear the bunny ears, and I’ll wear the wolf ears.”
Yu Xinxin thought the wolf ears weren’t as cute as the bunny ones, but she didn’t say anything. After all, the little wolf ears were cute too.
She pulled out her phone and turned on the camera. It was rare to see Wei Zhi like this—usually so cold and distant, now suddenly soft and playful. She had to take a photo.
Wei Zhi didn’t really like taking pictures. But when she remembered that this was their first photo together, she gave in and posed with Yu Xinxin a few times.
Yu Xinxin scrolled through the pictures and picked her favorite. She sent it to their dorm group chat, adding a line:
“Our goddess isn’t cold today at all. Cute JPG.”
The two left the accessory shop. Wei Zhi was still holding Yu Xinxin’s hand. She glanced at the bunny ears on Yu Xinxin’s head and smiled meaningfully.
They walked through many places, took lots of photos. Yu Xinxin chattered non-stop the whole time, like a child who hadn’t grown up.
By the time she was too tired to walk anymore, it was already past 10 p.m. The crowd had started to thin. Worried it wasn’t safe to stay out too late, Wei Zhi pulled her along and headed back.
Yu Xinxin was so tired her steps slowed down. Wei Zhi walked in front, holding her hand, helping her move forward.
The night air was cool and fresh. Yu Xinxin blinked her tired eyes, twitched her nose. The breeze carried a salty, damp scent as it entered her nose.
The road was long, and the surroundings were quiet. Yu Xinxin could clearly hear the sound of their footsteps echoing through the night.
“Tap, tap.” “Tap, tap.” “Tap, tap…”
