- Chapter 28 – Yu Xinxin's First Kiss
After they returned to the hotel, Wei Zhi gently placed Yu Xinxin on the bed and carefully tucked the blanket around her.
Yu Xinxin was sound asleep. She didn’t notice anything.
Wei Zhi touched her own neck. It was still burning hot. She took a deep breath and slowly let it out, trying to calm her messy thoughts.
The night outside was deep and quiet. A soft sea breeze passed by. The small town had left behind the noise of the day and was now fast asleep.
The light by the bed was dim. Yu Xinxin had her eyes closed. Her chest rose and fell gently. Her loose shirt revealed her delicate collarbone. Her lips were pink and soft. Her long lashes trembled slightly, casting a blurry shadow.
Wei Zhi sat beside the bed, quietly memorizing every part of Yu Xinxin’s face. Her skin was smooth. Her ears were small. Her nose was very fine. She looked for a long time, and before she realized it, she had become completely lost in thought. When she came back to her senses, it was already past midnight.
“Good night,” Wei Zhi whispered softly, her voice full of affection.
She turned off the bedside lamp and gently closed the door behind her.
There was no light in the living room. Wei Zhi didn’t bother turning it on. She went straight back to the master bedroom. After washing up, she got ready for bed. But just as she closed her eyes, she opened them again.
She suddenly remembered something. Picking up her phone, she opened the group chat. Her fingers slid up the screen until a photo appeared.
In the photo, a girl with bunny ears was smiling happily. Her dark eyes sparkled like a sky full of stars. On the other side of the photo, Wei Zhi was looking at Yu Xinxin with a soft smile. Her head had little wolf ears, touching the bunny ears next to them. Everything looked so pure and beautiful.
Wei Zhi stared at the picture for a while. Then she saved it and set it as her lock screen before lying down again.
The next morning, after washing up, Yu Xinxin picked up her phone as usual. She was instantly hit by a wave of messages that made her head hurt.
Zhou Tong: “Ahhhhhhh~ So cute!”
Zhou Tong: “Where did you two go? Why didn’t you call me?”
Zhou Tong: “Wait.”
Zhou Tong: “Xinxin, weren’t you going to the North City to see your boyfriend? Why are you with little Wei Zhi?”
Zhou Tong: “Xinxin……”
…
Han Yin: “The picture is beautiful. Are you two on a trip?”
Zhou Tong: “Why aren’t you answering?”
Zhou Tong: “Ahhhhh~~ You’re killing me!”
…
Yu Xinxin read through the messages and rubbed her temples. She thought for a bit, but still didn’t know how to explain that she broke up with her boyfriend and then went traveling with her girlfriend. So, she chose to ignore everything and didn’t reply.
In the next few days, they visited many tourist spots. At first, Yu Xinxin was full of energy, always ready with travel guides, taking pictures at every stop. But later, she got lazy and just stayed in the hotel sleeping in.
In the end, they decided to drive back to North City and then take the high-speed train to Jiang City. After all, showing up at school in a luxury car was a bit too flashy.
On the way back, Yu Xinxin looked very distracted. She kept staring at her phone, deep in thought. Her little face looked wrinkled and worried.
Wei Zhi glanced at her a few times. After hearing another sigh, she couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong? Why are you frowning like that?”
Yu Xinxin’s head hurt. When she heard Wei Zhi’s voice, she looked at her with a helpless and slightly bitter gaze.
Wei Zhi was startled. She didn’t know what she had done wrong again. But she stayed calm on the outside and said, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“It’s all your fault,” Yu Xinxin said. “Why did you have to ask me to be your girlfriend?”
In the past few days, Yu Xinxin hadn’t brought up their relationship again. Wei Zhi thought she had accepted it—or at least agreed to it silently. But now that she brought it up again, and in such a tone, it sounded like she regretted it.
Wei Zhi panicked.
She pulled the car over to the emergency lane and looked at Yu Xinxin. “Are you trying to take it back?”
Her face was calm when she spoke, cold as usual. Her voice didn’t sound angry, but Yu Xinxin still sensed a dangerous feeling.
She remembered that surprise kiss from before, and her courage faded.
Yu Xinxin looked weak and troubled. Her lips curved down a little. In the end, she didn’t dare to say anything too harsh. “No,” she said.
Wei Zhi let out a tiny sigh of relief, though she kept her usual cold look. “Then what did you mean just now?”
Yu Xinxin’s heart skipped a beat. Her brain automatically translated Wei Zhi’s words: I’m mad. If you don’t explain clearly, you’re doomed.
Yu Xinxin quickly covered her mouth, looked at the icy-faced Wei Zhi, and sighed inside. Then she carefully said, “I mean… you see… we…”
