The Cold Goddess Always Wants to Turn Me Gay (GL) - Chapter 3
Qin Rui awkwardly held a wildflower in his hand, clearly picked from the side of the road, and walked toward her. His usually calm face now looked a little uneasy.
“Xinxin… I… I like you,” he stammered.
Yu Xinxin looked into his beautiful eyes, a little surprised. But soon, a wave of happiness filled her heart. Somehow, even this plain wildflower started to look more and more beautiful to her.
Qin Rui waited a long time but didn’t hear any answer. Disappointment appeared in his eyes.
“If you don’t like me, we can still be friends,” he said.
Yu Xinxin snapped out of her daze. Seeing the hurt in his eyes, her heart softened. Without any hesitation, she blurted out, “I… I want to!”
She couldn’t let such a good thing slip away!
Yu Xinxin had always been a face-obsessed girl. And Qin Rui matched her taste perfectly—tall, long legs, a beautiful face, fair skin. Every time they went out, he always drew attention. It was just that his expression was always a little distant.
As for why…
Qin Rui’s father had passed away in a car accident four years ago. Back then, their family of three was on the way home for the New Year. Because of a road problem, there was a crash. Qin Rui and his mother were sitting in the back and were less hurt. His mother, thinking fast, had shielded Qin Rui with her body. So besides a few scratches, Qin Rui was fine. But his father, badly hurt, didn’t survive. His mother’s condition was serious too, but they saved her in time.
After that, Qin Rui changed. He used to be a bright, sunny boy, but after the accident, he became a model student. His grades improved a lot.
Before, both he and Yu Xinxin needed Lu Chen, their genius friend, to tutor them to barely keep up. But now, Qin Rui always ranked first in their grade.
Speaking of Lu Chen, he had grown up with Yu Xinxin and Qin Rui since they were little. He always protected them both. The three had a deep bond.
After Qin Rui’s father passed, life wasn’t easy for their family. The relatives were even worse. Because of medical bills, they owed the relatives a lot of money. When his mother left the hospital, the relatives often came to their house, saying nasty things. In the end, it was Lu Chen’s father and Yu Xinxin’s father who stepped in to help pay part of the debt and calm things down.
Even so, every year before New Year’s, those relatives would cause trouble again.
In order to go to Jiang University with Qin Rui, Yu Xinxin, who was terrible at studying, forced herself to work hard every day.
Thanks to the help of two geniuses, Qin Rui and Lu Chen, she did quite well in the college entrance exam. She already saw online that she was accepted into Jiang University.
Actually, Qin Rui’s real goal was BeiQing University—the best school in the country. But because Yu Xinxin’s grades were too poor, she couldn’t make it, so Qin Rui chose to lower his choice for her.
“Xinxin, are you ready?” Her mother’s familiar voice came from outside the door.
Hearing her mom’s voice, Yu Xinxin came back to reality and shouted, “Almost done!”
The neighbor’s kid was about to enter their final year of high school. When they heard that Yu Xinxin scored well, they came over asking for her study materials.
Her mom, being easy to talk to, agreed before Xinxin could even come home.
Yu Xinxin wasn’t a stingy person. Those books wouldn’t be useful to her anymore.
But… inside those books were so many memories of her and Qin Rui.
Every book Qin Rui gave her had important points marked, problem-solving tips, and lots of encouraging notes.
Giving them away really hurt her heart.
She looked sadly at the pile of books.
These weren’t study materials, they were her and Qin Rui’s memories!
Maybe… it was okay to secretly keep a few books?
This book was full of important notes Qin Rui wrote. And this one had a little cat he drew. Definitely couldn’t give that away!
And this one… had his carefully marked English questions.
And this one… had a hand-drawn map of China by him!
After going through everything, Yu Xinxin had kept almost half the books.
Her heart finally felt a little better.
“Are you done packing yet?” Her mom called again.
“Done, done!” Yu Xinxin answered quickly.
She struggled to move the box outside.
The neighbor’s aunt quickly ran over to help, smiling brightly and praising her for being smart and kind.
Seeing Yu Xinxin’s reluctant eyes glued to the box, the auntie just laughed, thanked her again, and disappeared in a flash.
Yu Xinxin had just thought maybe she could secretly keep one more book on politics… but the person was already gone.
She turned to glare at her mom.
Her mom, feeling guilty, gave a few awkward laughs and quickly went downstairs to walk the dog.
Yu Xinxin took an ice cream from the fridge, angrily plopped onto the sofa, and started flipping through TV channels.
She took a bite of the cold, sweet ice cream, and only then did her bad mood ease a little.
It was deep summer now, and the weather was getting hotter.
Many classmates had already received their college acceptance letters.
Hers should arrive in the next couple of days too.
Thinking about college life made her heart sweet and full of hope.
Suddenly, she remembered something strange about Qin Rui and Lu Chen lately.
Since filling out the college application forms, the two of them had bruises and swollen faces.
No matter how she questioned them, they refused to say what happened.
Their excuses were terrible:
“We tripped because we didn’t look where we were going.”
Really? Both of you tripped at the same time?
She also felt that Qin Rui’s eyes were hiding something she couldn’t understand.
And Lu Chen’s face was full of frustration, and he looked at her in a way that felt different from before.
Since that day, the two boys, once as close as brothers, had become distant strangers.
When she was around, they could still talk a little.
But as soon as she left, they would go their separate ways immediately.
Yu Xinxin felt very confused.
After trying to ask several times without getting any answers, she gave up.
The more she thought about it, the more upset she became.
She stuffed more ice cream into her mouth.
These two… she decided not to care anymore!
NomNomNomNomNom…
The phone on the coffee table lit up and rang cheerfully.
Yu Xinxin reached over and swiped to answer, still holding her spoon in her mouth.
“Hello?” she mumbled.
“Hello, is this Miss Yu Xinxin? Your package has arrived. Please come downstairs to collect it,” said the delivery man on the other end.
“Okay, please wait a moment. I’m coming down.”
After hanging up, Yu Xinxin quickly put on her shoes and went downstairs.
As soon as she walked out of the building, she saw a postal worker in green uniform wiping sweat from his face.
“Are you Yu Xinxin?” he asked with a smile.
“Yes, is there a package for me?”
“Yes, please sign for it,” he said, handing over a document envelope.
“Thank you!”
Yu Xinxin reached out to take it.
At that moment, a sudden thought struck her.
Her heart started to race, and even her hands began to tremble.
Could it be…
