- Chapter 32: Big Sister Has Taken a Liking to You
The woman’s tone made Yu Xinxin uncomfortable, but since she seemed to know Wei Zhi, Yu Xinxin suppressed her displeasure. “Who are you?” she asked.
Hearing the question, the woman stared coldly at her, a mocking smile playing on her lips. She strode inside without permission, forcing Yu Xinxin to step aside. Frowning, Yu Xinxin repeated, “Who exactly are you?”
Ignoring her, the woman walked into the living room and sat gracefully on the sofa. Beautiful and polished, her posture reflected good breeding—though her behavior hardly matched her refined appearance.
After scanning the room unsuccessfully, her expression darkened as she glanced at Yu Xinxin. “Where’s Wei Zhi?”
Irritated by her arrogance, Yu Xinxin sat in an armchair, leisurely sipping water while pointedly ignoring her.
After a tense silence, Gu Mingxi laughed in disbelief—no one had ever dismissed her like this. Studying the girl before her—soft, sweet-looking, the instantly likable type with strikingly clear, innocent eyes—a malicious thought occurred: What would Zhi’s reaction be if this pristine canvas were sullied?
Yu Xinxin felt extremely uncomfortable under the other person’s gaze. The way she was being stared at was unsettling, as if she were prey. Suppressing her unease, she glared back defiantly, refusing to back down in terms of presence.
Gu Mingxi curled her lips playfully and asked, “What’s your name?”
Yu Xinxin didn’t want to engage, but considering the other woman might be Wei Zhi’s friend—and this was Wei Zhi’s house—she reluctantly replied, “Yu Xinxin.”
“How long have you been with Zhizhi?”
Yu Xinxin had no idea what she was getting at. “You can ask Wei Zhi yourself.”
Gu Mingxi watched her with amusement, her red lips parting slightly. “Wei Zhi? So formal. You haven’t slept together yet, have you?”
Caught off guard by such a question, Yu Xinxin’s face flushed instantly. She turned away calmly, ignoring the remark.
Unfazed, Gu Mingxi tapped her slender fingers lightly on the sofa, musing, “What’s so great about Wei Zhi, that icy beauty? How about I introduce you to someone else?”
Yu Xinxin couldn’t fathom her intentions but instinctively wanted nothing to do with her. “No need.”
Undeterred, Gu Mingxi leaned forward, showcasing her alluring figure, and winked at Yu Xinxin. “Or what do you think of me?”
Her voice, usually cool, now dripped with seduction, the playful lilt at the end teasing like a little hook, tugging at one’s heart.
Yu Xinxin’s pulse quickened uncontrollably. Suppressing the goosebumps crawling over her skin, she said warily, “Not interested.”
This woman was truly… shameless.
A flicker of disbelief crossed Gu Mingxi’s eyes—no one had ever rejected her like this. She pressed on, “Whatever Wei Zhi can give you, I can too. What do you want? Tell me.”
Yu Xinxin felt insulted. Her tone turned icy. “Madam, if you have nothing important to say, you may leave.”
Already trying to kick her out? Gu Mingxi chuckled, making no move to go. Instead, she reclined leisurely, her gaze lingering on Yu Xinxin with meaning. “Take your time to think. Whether it’s a house, a car, studying abroad, or even your future—I can give it all to you.”
Yu Xinxin’s brows furrowed. Suppressing her anger, she said firmly, “Madam, please show some respect. And you’re not welcome here.”
Such a blatant dismissal. How bold. Gu Mingxi’s eyes turned cold. Suddenly, she stood and strode to Yu Xinxin, bending down to lift her chin, her red lips dangerously close.
The movement was swift—Yu Xinxin had no time to react before the imposing aura overwhelmed her. Her heart pounded wildly. Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to stay composed. “What do you think you’re doing?” she demanded coldly.
The woman curled her lips, not missing the flicker of panic in the young girl’s eyes. She revealed an aggressive smile, her breath as fragrant as orchids. “You’re quite interesting,” she paused before adding, “I’ve taken a liking to you.”
Yu Xinxin’s pupils contracted slightly, every hair on her body standing on end. Instinctively sensing danger from the person before her, she forcefully suppressed her fear, pushed away the other’s hand, and said coldly, “Please show some self-respect.”
As the touch on her hand vanished, a dangerous glint flashed in Gu Mingxi’s eyes, yet her lips bloomed into a radiant smile. Straightening up, she took a business card from her bag, placed it on the table, and said, “If you change your mind, contact me anytime.” She turned and walked toward the door, pausing after a few steps to glance back at Yu Xinxin. “Remember, my name is Gu Mingxi.”
Then she left without looking back. A seemingly docile and soft rabbit that could bite—how intriguing… No wonder she liked her.
Yu Xinxin stared at the closed door, exhaling in relief as she collapsed onto the sofa like a deflated balloon, as if all her strength had been drained. A lingering fear gripped her heart: Who was that woman? What was her relationship with Wei Zhi? She was terrifying…
At the Wei family mansion.
Wei Zhi and Wei Shenghong sat at opposite ends of the dining table, which was laden with exquisite dishes tailored to their tastes—proof of the chef’s meticulous effort. Yet neither of them made a move to eat. Uncle Zhou stood nearby, inwardly anxious.
After a long silence, Wei Shenghong’s imposing demeanor softened. He sighed and asked, “How have you been lately?”
Wei Zhi replied, “Thanks to you, not well.”
Wei Shenghong’s face darkened with anger. “Is that any way to speak to your father?”
Wei Zhi responded indifferently, “How do you expect me to speak?”
“You—” Wei Shenghong choked in fury, clutching his chest as a fit of violent coughing overtook him.
Uncle Zhou watched with visible concern, patting Wei Shenghong’s back to ease his breathing while addressing Wei Zhi. “Miss, your father hasn’t been well these past few days. Please speak to him gently.”
Wei Zhi looked at Wei Shenghong, her expression complex. After a long moment, she picked up her chopsticks and said in a softer tone, “Let’s eat.”
A relieved smile crossed Uncle Zhou’s face as he stepped back once Wei Shenghong’s coughing subsided.
Wei Shenghong’s expression relaxed slightly as he picked up his chopsticks and ate in silence.
Wei Zhi stared at the food before her, her thoughts drifting to Yu Xinxin. She wondered if the girl had eaten, whether she might skip meals out of laziness without her around. Then she chided herself for overthinking—Yu Xinxin was an adult, more than capable of taking care of herself.
Noticing his daughter’s softened expression, Wei Shenghong spoke up. “Come visit more often when you have time.”
Remembering Yu Xinxin’s advice, Wei Zhi forced patience into her voice. “School keeps me busy. I’ll see when I can.”
Hearing the slight thaw in her tone, Wei Shenghong ventured, “It’s time you learned to manage the family business. Qian Hao, your Uncle Qian’s son, just returned from abroad. You young people would have more to talk about—you should spend time together.”
Wei Zhi’s chopsticks stilled, her face turning cold. “I won’t get married. You’d better abandon that idea.”
Wei Shenghong’s expression darkened. “Is it because of that girl—Yu Xinxin?”
Wei Zhi’s heart trembled. Yu Xin Xin had guessed correctly—Wei Shenghong had indeed set his sights on her. Her hands clenched tightly at her sides, but her expression remained composed as she said, “Just a little girl. Is she really worth your attention?” Then her face turned cold, nearly gritting her teeth as she added, “As for why I’m not married, you should understand better than anyone.”
Wei Shenghong looked at his daughter before him, his anger uncontrollably erupting, yet his eyes carried a trace of barely detectable guilt. His voice was heavy as he said, “It’s been four years. She’s already dead.”
Wei Zhi could no longer hold back. From the moment she entered, she had suppressed her emotions, but now that he was meddling in her personal life, she realized she should never have hoped for a calm conversation with Wei Shenghong. “How did Mom die? Have you forgotten? In these four years, haven’t you felt even the slightest bit of guilt?”
Aaa it’s so cute looking forward to see how it unfolds
