The Cold Goddess Always Wants to Turn Me Gay (GL) - Chapter 37: Stepping on a Landmine
In the evening, Han Yin returned. Zhou Tong greeted her briefly with fleeting enthusiasm before burying herself in her essay again.
Han Yin seemed to be in an exceptionally good mood, smiling from the moment she entered. She usually gave off a gentle, comfortable vibe—her demeanor exuded a unique grace, the kind of tender elegance cultivated from childhood, yet without any hint of fragility. On the contrary, over time, one would notice the innate confidence and resilience radiating from her bones.
Yu Xin Xin observed Han Yin, certain she was acting unusually today. Though Han Yin was typically mild-mannered, she rarely displayed her emotions so openly. Yu Xin Xin suspected something particularly joyful must have happened to her.
Driven by curiosity, Yu Xin Xin couldn’t help but glance at her a few more times.
Wei Zhi’s gaze turned icy. The girl beside her was staring at another woman, which displeased her greatly. She had already felt a twinge of jealousy earlier because of Zhou Tong. She didn’t want Yu Xin Xin to think she was the jealous type. She hoped Yu Xin Xin would realize on her own that she was in a bad mood, rather than forcing her to say something childish like, “You’re not allowed to look at others—only at me.”
It was clear that Wei Zhi was destined to be disappointed. Yu Xin Xin hadn’t noticed her subtle feelings at all. Instead, Yu was watching Han Yin, who was carefully polishing a violin with a soft cloth, her fingers gentle as she stroked the strings. The look in her eyes was tender and delicate, as if she were holding the most precious thing in the world.
Yu Xin Xin had never seen this violin before—it must have been newly acquired. Watching Han Yin’s focused expression, she asked, “Is this a new violin?”
“Someone gave it to me,” Han Yin replied, lifting her head at Yu’s voice. Her smile brightened even more, and Yu Xin Xin caught a hint of pride in it. Unable to resist, she pressed, “Who gave it to you? That’s quite the extravagant gift.”
Though Yu wasn’t particularly knowledgeable about musical instruments, she had seen Han Yin’s previous violin and had heard her explain how to judge their quality. Instinctively, she could tell this one was superior. As for why she called it “extravagant”—Han Yin had once mentioned the price of her old violin, and Yu still remembered Zhou Tong’s shocked reaction at the time. She was sure her own expression had been no better. So this new violin had to be even more expensive—definitely not something an average person could afford.
A deeper warmth, tinged with shyness, filled Han Yin’s gentle eyes. Yu Xin Xin was surprised—something was definitely up.
The soft gaze flickered with bashfulness before melting into sweetness. At Yu’s question, Han Yin answered, “My partner gave it to me.”
Yu froze for a moment, still processing, when Zhou Tong suddenly shrieked beside her, abandoning the article in her hands and rushing over. Her excited voice was so piercing it made Yu’s ears hurt.
“Ahhh—since when?! Are they handsome? What do they do? They must be amazing to have won over our Yin Yin!”
“Actually, you’ve got it wrong—I was the one who pursued them,” Han Yin laughed.
The shrill noise cut off abruptly. Zhou Tong fell silent, her disbelief plain on her face. Slowly, her shock morphed into deep admiration, and she gave a thumbs-up. “As expected of our Yin Yin—always one of a kind! Now tell me, who is this person who managed to captivate the belle of our music department?”
Yu Xin Xin was just as curious. Han Yin had striking features, an elegant demeanor, and a gentle personality—she had no shortage of admirers, even more than Wei Zhi. Not that Wei Zhi was any less attractive—it was just that their temperaments were completely different.
Han Yin was warm and approachable, while Wei Zhi was aloof, radiating an aura that kept people at a distance. Yu had seen more than a few hopeful suitors approach Wei Zhi with gifts, their eyes earnest and shy—only to be stopped in their tracks by a single icy glance. Left awkwardly stranded, unsure whether to advance or retreat, they could only watch helplessly as Wei Zhi walked away without a second thought.
This happened with both men and women—some timid girls had even been reduced to tears. Over time, only the boldest dared to confess their feelings. Even then, if anyone managed to muster the courage to speak, Wei Zhi would simply walk past them coldly, never giving them a chance.
So naturally, her number of pursuers dwindled.
Hearing Zhou Tong’s question, Han Yin’s smile didn’t fade, but there was a hint of hesitation in her eyes. “When the time comes, I’ll treat you all to a meal, and then you’ll see.”
“Great! When will you bring them for us to meet?” Zhou Tong asked.
“In a few days,” Han Yin replied hesitantly.
Yu Xin Xin noticed Han Yin’s hesitation. Seeing Zhou Tong about to press further, she interjected, “Have you finished writing your reflection?”
Yu Xin Xin thought: Sorry, I didn’t mean to. Blame Wei Zhi if you must.
Zhou Tong suddenly realized she hadn’t finished her assignment yet. With a crestfallen expression, she went back to researching.
Yu Xin Xin sympathized with her for a few seconds in her heart before turning to the real culprit. Wei Zhi looked completely at ease, and upon closer inspection, there was even a hint of amusement in her eyes. Yu Xin Xin frowned. She remembered that from the moment Zhou Tong returned, Wei Zhi had reverted to her usual cold demeanor. It seemed Wei Zhi only showed other emotions when they were alone together.
Noticing Yu Xin Xin’s gaze, Wei Zhi raised an eyebrow and gave her a playful wink, her smile ambiguous.
Yu Xin Xin glared at her in annoyance, her eyes carrying a warning. Wei Zhi obediently suppressed her smile and looked away.
Wei Zhi thought: Maybe I should find Zhou Tong a partner too, so she stops clinging to my wife.
Wei Zhi found this sudden idea quite good and gave Zhou Tong, who was buried in her writing, a meaningful look.
Zhou Tong suddenly felt a chill down her spine but had no time to dwell on it as she continued writing.
Han Yin watched their subtle interaction with a slight smile. Before the break, she had already noticed Wei Zhi’s less-than-innocent intentions toward Yu Xin Xin. Judging by their current behavior, their relationship must have progressed significantly. But didn’t Yu Xin Xin have a boyfriend?
Remembering the travel photos Yu Xin Xin had shared in the group chat, Han Yin asked, “Xin Xin, didn’t you go to North City for the break? How did you end up traveling with Wei Zhi?”
After a brief pause, Yu Xin Xin replied softly, “Well, we broke up, so I went on a trip with Wei Zhi instead.”
“Broke up?” Zhou Tong shrieked again, her shock no less than when she’d just learned about Han Yin’s relationship.
Startled, Yu Xin Xin nodded. “Yeah.”
Han Yin understood immediately and glanced at Wei Zhi, who was secretly pleased.
“Why did you break up? Did that jerk mistreat you?” Zhou Tong demanded indignantly.
Yu Xin Xin frowned and answered with difficulty, “Not exactly mistreatment… I was just cheated on.”
“Cheated on?” Zhou Tong shrieked again, even more agitated than before. Yu Xin Xin rubbed her ears, then saw Zhou Tong’s eyes quickly well up with tears, as if she were the one who’d been cheated on.
This time, even Han Yin looked surprised, her brows furrowing with concern.
“Xin Xin…” Zhou Tong’s eyes were full of sympathy, as if she might burst into tears any second.
Yu Xin Xin couldn’t stand her like this and felt extremely uncomfortable. She said urgently, “Stop it, hold back those tears.”
Zhou Tong was startled and immediately stopped crying, her heart aching as she said, “Are you feeling really bad? Xin Xin, don’t be sad. There are plenty of fish in the sea—Qin Rui is just blind, and we don’t need him.”
Yu Xin Xin rubbed her forehead. This was the first time she had received such “comfort.” She sighed helplessly, “I’m fine. It’s all in the past.”
Zhou Tong gave her a knowing look and echoed, “Right, it’s all in the past. Just some worthless guy—no big deal.” Her eyes were full of pity, her expression practically screaming, My heart aches for Xin Xin putting on a brave face.
But the sympathy in her eyes lasted only a few seconds before Zhou Tong suddenly brightened up. “You know, the best way to get over someone is to get under someone new.” Yu Xin Xin felt like she’d heard this before, and a sense of unease crept into her heart. Sure enough, Zhou Tong continued, “I think Lu Chen is pretty great. Why don’t you consider him? He’s handsome and treats you well.”
Actually, she really wanted to say Wei Zhi wasn’t bad either, but unfortunately, Wei Zhi might already be taken. What kind of person could win Wei Zhi over? she wondered. I should find time to ask.
Yu Xin Xin had a headache. What kind of logic is this? She took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to hit someone, and forced a gentle smile. “I’m really fine, don’t worry. Besides, Lu Chen is like a brother to me—I have no interest in turning sibling affection into romance.”
Han Yin couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head at Zhou Tong. She subtly glanced at Wei Zhi, who had been silent the whole time, and sure enough, the latter’s gaze was icy, staring at Zhou Tong as if she wanted to devour her.
Zhou Tong’s pity only deepened as she stared at Yu Xin Xin’s face, as if thinking, Poor Xin Xin, even now she’s trying to comfort me.
Seeing that Zhou Tong was about to continue, Yu Xin Xin cut in first, “Stop. We’re not talking about this anymore.”
Surprisingly, Zhou Tong was uncharacteristically understanding. “Fine, whatever you say.”
Han Yin studied Wei Zhi thoughtfully. “So, Wei Zhi went with you to help you clear your mind?”
“Uh… yeah. She… she lives in Beishi, so…” Yu Xin Xin avoided eye contact. She wasn’t good at lying—though technically, she wasn’t lying, since Wei Zhi did live in Beishi—but she still felt guilty.
“But I never heard she was planning to go home. Did she rush there just for you?” Han Yin asked. She was sharp and had already pieced together the truth—she was just confirming her suspicions.
Zhou Tong perked up, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Wei Zhi. “Xiao Zhi Zhi, did you rush over just for her? That’s so loyal!”
Yu Xin Xin hurriedly interjected, “She had something to take care of at home and just happened to hear about my situation, so she stayed with me.”
Han Yin turned to Wei Zhi, her gaze unreadable. “Is that so?”
Yu Xin Xin also looked at Wei Zhi, her bright eyes pleading, her lips slightly pouted. Wei Zhi found her expression adorable and couldn’t help but smirk. “Something like that.” She didn’t want to hide her relationship with Yu Xin Xin, and she wasn’t entirely pleased with Yu Xin Xin’s evasiveness, so she didn’t outright confirm it.
