Han Yin raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, her gentle eyes tinged with deeper meaning. Meeting Wei Zhi’s cool gaze, she didn’t expose anything and instead smiled, saying, “You two have such a good relationship. Don’t forget to invite us next time you go out together.”
Looking into Han Yin’s eyes, Wei Zhi had a feeling the other girl had guessed something. But since she wasn’t calling it out, Wei Zhi decided to follow Yu Xin Xin’s lead and keep things private for now.
Zhou Tong chimed in, “Yeah, yeah, definitely call me too!” After a moment’s thought, she added, “Oh, right—Wei Zhi, are you dating someone?”
“Cough, cough—” The sudden question nearly choked Yu Xin Xin to death. Just when she thought the crisis had been averted, how could Zhou Tong, this absolute disaster of a teammate, blurt out such a question?
Han Yin froze for a second, then gave Zhou Tong a sympathetic look. When will this kid ever get smarter? she wondered. Probably never in this lifetime.
Wei Zhi frowned, her gaze at Zhou Tong somewhat complicated. The question didn’t embarrass her—in fact, she really wanted to take the opportunity to confirm her relationship with Yu Xin Xin. But Yu Xin Xin’s reaction just now had left her feeling sour and stifled.
“Xin Xin, were you surprised too? Let me tell you something—do you know what Little Zhi asked me the other day? She asked me how to make her partner happy, and she insisted it was for someone else. What a lame excuse—”
“W-why can’t it be for someone else?” Yu Xin Xin cut Zhou Tong off, her heart racing with guilt and awkwardness. She had been upset with Wei Zhi before, but she never expected Wei Zhi would go ask Zhou Tong for advice. Trying to imagine Wei Zhi asking such a question… Hmm… she probably looked a little dumbfounded. And maybe… kind of cute?
“Isn’t it obviously just an excuse?” Zhou Tong looked at Yu Xin Xin in confusion. Why is Xin Xin blushing? I wasn’t even asking her.
Yu Xin Xin had no response, so she could only glare at Wei Zhi in frustration. She really wanted to ask, What were you thinking, asking this blockhead for advice? Did you lose your brain too?
Noticing the skepticism in Yu Xin Xin’s eyes, Wei Zhi frowned and sighed inwardly.
“Say something, Little Zhi,” Zhou Tong urged when no answer came.
“I am dating someone,” Wei Zhi finally said. She didn’t want to lie—this relationship meant too much to her.
Zhou Tong’s eyes lit up. Yu Xin Xin’s heart trembled as she stared at Wei Zhi in disbelief. Even Han Yin watched the two with amused interest.
“But I’m not planning to make it public yet, so don’t ask who it is,” Wei Zhi added.
“Aw, come on! Just tell us!”
“Have you finished Professor Li’s assignment?” Wei Zhi’s voice turned icy. She was in a terrible mood now, and as she looked at Zhou Tong, she couldn’t help but wonder—How did someone with this kind of brain even get into Jiang University? She was starting to question the school’s admission standards.
Zhou Tong finally remembered the homework she had abandoned. Although she still wanted to keep asking questions, Wei Zhi’s gaze was too icy—better to let it go. She glanced at Yu Xin Xin, who was looking down with lowered eyelids, clearly in low spirits. Well, that made sense. After just going through a breakup, seeing friends around her pairing off one after another must have left Xin Xin feeling unbalanced. At least she still had her single self for company. Thinking this, Zhou Tong’s gaze toward Yu Xin Xin grew even more sympathetic.
Outside the window, the scenery gradually darkened.
Han Yin packed away her violin, changed into fresh clothes in the bathroom, and even applied light makeup before emerging, a bright smile on her face. She grabbed her phone and said to the other three in the dorm, “I made plans to go out for dinner. I’ll head out first.”
With that, she left in high spirits. Yu Xin Xin knew that look—she must be going on a date. She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of person could make Han Yin take the initiative to pursue them. Was that person waiting downstairs right now?
Curious, she went to the balcony and peered out the window.
From their dorm building, the entrance was clearly visible. The streetlights had already flickered on, casting soft, cotton candy-like pools of pale yellow light on the ground. A few people stood near the entrance, but Yu Xin Xin didn’t spot any guys. However, one of the girls looked vaguely familiar.
A moment later, Han Yin appeared, waving in a certain direction. Under the streetlight, a girl approached—the same one Yu Xin Xin had recognized. Tall and slender, with a neat short haircut tucked behind her ears, her face wasn’t clearly visible. She walked over, affectionately linking arms with Han Yin and guiding her toward the school gate.
“What are you looking at?”
A familiar voice sounded beside her ear. Lost in thought, Yu Xin Xin hadn’t noticed anyone approaching. She pressed a hand to her startled, racing heart and huffed, “I wanted to see what Han Yin’s boyfriend looks like, but it seems she’s not going to dinner with him tonight.”
Wei Zhi watched the two figures receding into the distance, her eyes narrowing slightly. The distance between them seemed unusually intimate—the girl had placed a hand on Han Yin’s waist, pulling her along naturally, and Han Yin didn’t seem the least bit bothered. In fact, she leaned in closer. Wei Zhi smiled, understanding dawning. Seeing Yu Xin Xin’s still-confused expression, she said, “Why can’t it be a girlfriend?”
“Huh? What girlfriend?” Yu Xin Xin was puzzled, but realization quickly struck. “You mean, she’s like you…” She glanced back at Zhou Tong inside the room, who hadn’t noticed them, and lowered her voice. “She’s also into girls?”
Wei Zhi leaned in, her lips curving into an innocent smile.
Her usually cool eyes were now filled with amusement—beautiful, alluring, yet carrying a trace of something sharp that sent a shiver down Yu Xin Xin’s spine. She instinctively took a step back, her back pressing against the balcony window. Panic flared—had she said something wrong?
“Xin Xin, you’re not being very good today. Do you know how sad you made me just now?” Wei Zhi’s voice was low, cool, and mesmerizing, laced with a hint of a whimper that sounded almost like a coquettish complaint. The drawn-out tone sent a ticklish warmth through Yu Xin Xin’s chest.
Yu Xin Xin covered her chest, trying to calm her unruly heartbeat. She glanced guiltily at Zhou Tong, who was still buried in her homework, and sighed in relief before turning back to Wei Zhi. “Wh-what happened just now? Is something… upsetting you?”
Hadn’t they already agreed on this?
Wei Zhi couldn’t force a smile anymore. She took a slow breath, looking at the person before her with a mix of love and frustration. “Should I go tell them about our relationship right now?”
Uh… Yu Xin Xin finally understood why she was upset. She wanted to go back on their agreement—how could that be allowed?
“We agreed not to make our relationship public. Don’t forget, you were the one who said we’d break up after a month,” Yu Xin Xin retorted angrily.
“What I said was, we’d break up after a month if you still didn’t like me,” Wei Zhi curled her lips, leaning in closer until her breath brushed against Yu Xin Xin’s cheek, her voice soft and teasing. “Are you really so sure you won’t fall for me, Xin Xin?”
The warm breath grazed her skin, teasing the delicate curve of her earlobe with a faint, tantalizing touch. Yu Xin Xin felt her cheeks burn, the heat spreading to the skin around her ears. She turned her head slightly, too flustered to meet Wei Zhi’s gaze, her heartbeat growing even more uncontrollable. A tingling sensation spread from behind her ears, coursing through her entire body. “Y-you… don’t get so close.”
“And if I say no?” Wei Zhi’s smile was playful. Yu Xin Xin’s shy, flustered expression delighted her, and her gaze softened until it could melt. “Xin Xin, the way you look right now makes me want to tease you even more.”
Yu Xin Xin’s heart raced wildly, the strange fluttering in her chest leaving her at a loss. She tried pushing Wei Zhi away weakly, hoping to shift the charged atmosphere between them, but to no avail.
Feeling the feeble resistance, Wei Zhi’s throat tightened. The sight before her was too tempting—Yu Xin Xin’s snow-like skin dusted with a faint blush, like a ripe peach, her beautiful eyes glazed with a misty sheen, the rims slightly reddened and damp. It was as if a soft little hand was tickling Wei Zhi’s heart. Her gaze lingered on those delicate lips, and she swallowed unconsciously before gently tilting Yu Xin Xin’s chin up and pressing her lips down.
