- Chapter 45: Liking Someone Can Be Addictive
An image of a perfect figure involuntarily surfaced in her mind—indeed, that part seemed quite large.
A wave of bashfulness exploded in her brain. Yu Xin Xin froze for a few seconds, her fair skin flushing pink. Her pounding heart stimulated her mind, making the image even clearer. Forcing herself to shift her focus, she pushed the other person away.
“You… you… what on earth…” What are you thinking? Yu Xin Xin said indignantly.
Wei Zhi watched her flustered expression with an amused smile. “Don’t you like it, Xin Xin?”
Her blushing face was truly adorable.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Yu Xin Xin retorted. She absolutely couldn’t let the conversation go where Wei Zhi wanted. After spending so much time together, she had more or less figured out Wei Zhi’s temperament—this person loved teasing her. As long as she remained indifferent, Wei Zhi would eventually lose interest and stop.
Sure enough, disappointment flashed across Wei Zhi’s face. She felt a pang of hurt inside. Glancing down at her chest, she was rather fond of it herself. Reluctantly, she said, “If Xin Xin doesn’t like it, then there’s nothing to be done.” After a pause, noticing the other’s slightly smug expression, she continued, “Though it’s a bit troublesome, going to the hospital might—”
Wei Zhi didn’t finish her sentence, but the implication was obvious. Yu Xin Xin finally couldn’t take it anymore and glared at her fiercely, gritting her teeth. “That won’t be necessary.” Wei Zhi smiled, about to tease her further, when Yu Xin Xin added, “The month is almost up. We’ll be breaking up soon.”
The expression on Wei Zhi’s face vanished, and she grew quiet.
Yes, the month was almost over.
Though it lasted only a moment, Yu Xin Xin keenly sensed the shift in her mood—calm, like stagnant water, incapable of stirring any ripples. Frowning, Yu Xin Xin wanted to say something. “I—”
“Have you two decided yet?” Zhou Tong emerged from the changing room, seeing the two still standing in the same spot, unmoved.
“I’m still looking,” Yu Xin Xin replied, glancing at Wei Zhi and suppressing her words.
After what had just happened, she no longer had the heart to browse. Her gaze lingered on Wei Zhi unconsciously. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Wei Zhi seemed different from before—her eyes were indifferent, just like… just like when Yu Xin Xin had first met her. Beautiful, but lifeless. Realizing this, Yu Xin Xin’s heart twisted uncomfortably.
Zhou Tong watched as the two of them picked and chose without moving an inch, urging them several times. Yu Xin Xin made an excuse about not seeing anything she liked and simply decided not to buy anything. On the other hand, Wei Zhi, upon hearing Yu Xin Xin say she wasn’t buying anything, grew even colder in expression, then gave a bitter smile, her eyes brimming with sorrow. She reached out, grabbed a swimsuit, and paid for it herself.
On the way back, Zhou Tong chattered nonstop, clearly very excited about the team-building event the next day. Yu Xin Xin kept observing Wei Zhi, who hadn’t changed her expression since leaving the mall. Yu Xin Xin knew Wei Zhi must be upset.
By the time they returned to school, it was already dark. Zhou Tong suggested eating at the school gate before heading back. Considering Wei Zhi’s picky and delicate stomach, Yu Xin Xin agreed—after all, the cafeteria food was terrible.
“I’m not hungry. You two go ahead,” Wei Zhi said.
“You—”
“I’ll head back first.” Wei Zhi interrupted Yu Xin Xin and walked straight into the school.
From a distance, her cold silhouette exuded a hint of loneliness—as if… she had always been alone.
“Xin Xin, let’s go.” Zhou Tong tugged Yu Xin Xin toward the roadside.
Wei Zhi’s lonely figure and lifeless eyes kept swirling in Yu Xin Xin’s mind. Distracted, she found the dinner tasteless.
After their breakup, would Wei Zhi always be like this?
How could that be? Wei Zhi was just momentarily interested in her. Over time, this fondness would fade, and they could still be friends.
Yu Xin Xin denied it inwardly, trying to convince herself—after all, what future could two girls possibly have together?
Back in the dorm, Wei Zhi sat quietly in her chair, reading a book, seemingly oblivious to the two who had just entered.
Yu Xin Xin sighed inwardly and walked over to her, placing a paper bag in front of Wei Zhi.
Wei Zhi looked at the bag, a faint glimmer lighting up her dark eyes. She stared at Yu Xin Xin without speaking. Time ticked by, and an inexplicable tension lingered between them.
After a few breaths, Yu Xin Xin’s eyes flashed with resignation. She reached into the bag, took out a container of congee, and opened the lid. The aroma of the congee wafted out, and Yu Xin Xin keenly noticed the subtle movement in Wei Zhi’s throat as she swallowed. Smiling, Yu Xin Xin unwrapped a disposable spoon, placed it in the bowl, and pushed it toward Wei Zhi, coaxing softly, “Eat properly.”
Wei Zhi raised an eyebrow, suppressing the joy threatening to overflow. She took the bowl and ate quietly.
Xin Xin still cared about her. She wasn’t alone.
Yu Xin Xin was relieved to see Wei Zhi eating properly.
If it weren’t for worrying that Wei Zhi might get sick from hunger, she wouldn’t have bothered. Who asked her to have such a weak constitution?
Yu Xin Xin told herself this, but as she watched Wei Zhi obediently eating the congee, the inexplicable, tangled emotions that had been weighing on her suddenly dissipated.
She stopped overthinking, grabbed her clothes, and went to shower. Tomorrow was the trip to the hot springs resort, and the bus would only take them to the foot of the mountain. They’d have to hike up themselves, so she needed to rest early.
Night fell, and all was silent.
Soft breathing sounds filled the dorm. Zhou Tong smacked her lips, rolled over, and continued sleeping. Seeing that she showed no signs of waking, Wei Zhi shifted her gaze—Han Yin lay neatly in bed, apparently fast asleep.
She withdrew her gaze and looked at Yu Xinxin across from her. The other girl looked so peaceful in sleep, her long lashes resting quietly on her lower eyelids, her rosy lips faintly visible beneath the blanket. In the silent depths of the night, it evoked a sense of tranquil serenity.
Wei Zhi’s gaze lingered. Counting the days, there were only a few left before the one-month deadline arrived. She could tell Yu Xinxin cared about her, but this silly girl still couldn’t discern what that care truly meant. Originally, Wei Zhi had planned to wait patiently, letting her figure it out on her own. But Yu Xinxin’s words that afternoon suddenly made her realize another possibility: what if Xinxin truly didn’t have feelings for her?
Just the thought of that possibility sent her spiraling into an abyss. It was then she realized just how much she yearned for her—so much that she had forgotten the taste of darkness and loneliness. So when the long-absent coldness suddenly struck, she panicked. She no longer wanted to be alone.
So this was it—loving someone could become an addiction.
She watched as Yu Xinxin unconsciously nuzzled into the blanket, revealing her soft, hidden lips. Wei Zhi licked her own dry lips, then leaned over the railing, inching closer. Just as she neared the other girl’s lips, she paused. The faint breaths against her chin tickled, like a cat’s paw gently scratching at her heart. She swallowed reflexively, retracting the urge to kiss her. But as she passed by her forehead, she couldn’t resist planting a light peck before retreating contentedly into her own blanket.
Tonight, she should have sweet dreams.
Aaa it’s so cute looking forward to see how it unfolds
