The Cold Goddess Always Wants to Turn Me Gay (GL) - Chapter 57: Why Did She Do This?
Wei Zhi frowned at the figures by the window, her cool face seeming to frost over.
Gu Mingxi took the milk handed to her by Zhou Tong, gazing at the youthful, innocent face across from her. Unable to resist, she threw a flirtatious glance and was rewarded with a shy, blushing expression. Smiling like a beguiling fox, she seemed thoroughly pleased.
Zhou Tong, suddenly confronted with such a breathtaking sight, inwardly exclaimed: What kind of celestial beauty is this? Oh my! Where’s my oxygen tank?
Just as she was at a loss for what to do, she spotted Yu Xin Xin and Wei Zhi at the entrance and immediately waved enthusiastically. “Xin Xin, Xiao Zhi Zhi, over here!”
Gu Mingxi turned her head, her smile now tinged with something unreadable as she studied the two of them.
Yu Xin Xin awkwardly waved back at Zhou Tong, then glanced at Gu Mingxi sitting beside her. Remembering last night’s intimate scene, she averted her gaze uncomfortably.
Yu Xin Xin, who had originally planned to slip away quietly: Damn you, Zhou Tong, you blockhead! Do you want to face a battlefield of wrath?
Her hands clenched at her sides. Though Gu Mingxi hadn’t done anything to harm her, she instinctively wanted to keep her distance. Every time the other woman looked at her, it made her uneasy—like a cunning, elegant fox toying with its prey, waiting for the right moment to bare its fangs.
This person was dangerous.
Wei Zhi withdrew her gaze, noticing Yu Xin Xin standing stiffly, her eyes filled with nervous tension. Instinctively, Wei Zhi took her hand, gently loosening her grip before interlacing their fingers. Softly, she reassured, “It’s okay. I’m here.”
The tension eased slightly, and only then did Yu Xin Xin realize her palms were sweaty. Now held by Wei Zhi, the damp warmth between their hands sent a ripple through her heart. She tightened their intertwined fingers and murmured, “Mm.”
The two sat down at the table, and Zhou Tong pulled Yu Xin Xin away to get food, leaving only Wei Zhi and Gu Mingxi behind.
Having watched the two walk over hand in hand, all lovey-dovey, Gu Mingxi arched an eyebrow and smirked at Wei Zhi. “Last night must have been exhausting. You should eat more later.”
Wei Zhi’s icy expression grew even colder as she said in a low voice, “Don’t you have anything to explain?”
Gu Mingxi curled her lips, staring straight at her with piercing eyes. “Explain what? You should be thanking me.”
“Since when has Miss Gu resorted to such underhanded methods?” Wei Zhi mocked.
Gu Mingxi looked completely unfazed, leisurely eating the breakfast Zhou Tong had brought her earlier. After a while, she finally spoke, “It wasn’t my doing. If I wanted to do something, I’d do it openly. Someone thought I was interested in little Xin Xin and sent her over on their own.”
Wei Zhi frowned, her expression turning even colder. “If you didn’t order it, how did they manage to put her in your room?”
Gu Mingxi propped her chin on her left hand, studying Wei Zhi with interest. “I figured it’s better to keep the good stuff within the family. Rather than sending Xin Xin to someone else’s room, I might as well take her in myself.”
“You’d better not set your sights on Xin Xin. She’s not like the people around you.” Wei Zhi’s gaze softened as she glanced at Yu Xin Xin, who was whispering with Zhou Tong not far away, and the corners of her lips curled slightly. “If there’s a next time, I won’t mind teaching you a lesson.”
Gu Mingxi dropped her fake smile, watching the tenderness in Wei Zhi’s eyes with mixed emotions. How long had it been since she’d seen Wei Zhi smile so genuinely?
She remembered Wei Zhi used to smile a lot as a child. Back then, Gu Mingxi had just returned from abroad. She couldn’t recall what emotions she’d felt when stepping into the Gu family mansion—only that she’d missed her aunt terribly. But when she saw the man by her aunt’s side, rage surged through her. Ignoring the calls behind her, she turned to leave, only to be stopped by something. Looking down, she saw a chubby little girl clinging to her leg, grinning sweetly up at her with a face covered in drool. The child’s bright, clear eyes stared unblinkingly before tilting her head in apparent confusion. Then, tiny chubby hands dug into a pocket and pulled out a candy, placing it in Gu Mingxi’s palm. “Sister don’t cry, eat candy,” the little one lisped. Perhaps it was the child’s innocent purity, or maybe it was those bright eyes—so much like his—that melted Gu Mingxi’s heart completely. The tears she’d been holding back suddenly spilled over.
Now, those same clear eyes from her memories overlapped with Wei Zhi’s cold ones. Gu Mingxi rubbed her temples, snapping back to the present, and wearily murmured, “Don’t worry. She’s someone you care about. I won’t do anything.”
Wei Zhi froze momentarily, surprised by the exhaustion in Gu Mingxi’s eyes. For a brief second, she felt a pang of sympathy, but ultimately said nothing.
Meanwhile, Zhou Tong pulled Yu Xin Xin toward the buffet area. Watching her friend calmly pick up two eggs, Zhou Tong couldn’t hold back any longer and whined, “Xin Xin, are we still best friends or not?”
Yu Xin Xin gave her a puzzled look before reaching for two steaming meat buns. “What are you trying to say?”
“Are you dating someone? And is it someone I know?” Zhou Tong cut straight to the point without any subtlety.
The bun slipped from Yu Xin Xin’s hand. She glanced at Zhou Tong guiltily. “You already know?”
“You—” Zhou Tong gaped at her, then lowered her voice. “You’re really together with Wei Zhi?”
Yu Xin Xin’s cheeks warmed as she rubbed her slightly flushed face and whispered, “Mhm.”
“I knew it, no wonder…” Zhou Tong’s starry eyes sparkled as she leaned in closer. “You have no idea, Wei Zhi went crazy last night when she couldn’t find you. She was crying so hard, nearly tore the hotel apart.”
“Ah?” Yu Xinxin couldn’t believe it. “Wei Zhi cried?” She glanced at Wei Zhi in the distance, who noticed her and gave her a gentle smile. Something in her heart twinged, a dull ache settling in.
Zhou Tong watched the two exchanging affectionate glances, unable to hide her excitement.
Oh my god! So sweet!
“Honestly, you found such a stunning beauty and didn’t even tell your bestie first? That hurts.” Sweet as it was, being kept in the dark still stung.
Yu Xinxin snapped out of her thoughts and chuckled, coaxing her, “How about having the beauty treat you to dinner as an apology?”
“Deal!” Getting to witness their sweetness up close, plus a free meal from Wei Zhi—why not take advantage?
“Oh, right, almost forgot the main thing.” Zhou Tong wiped the grin off her face and pulled out her phone seriously, opening a WeChat chat. “Look.”
Yu Xinxin took the phone. There was only one message, but its content instantly grabbed her full attention.
“Yu Xinxin is in Room 6012.”
The sender was Zhao Manshu, her classmate. She recalled—wasn’t that the person who urged her to drink last night?
“This person sent you to Wei Zhi’s sister’s room but didn’t bother telling us. Wei Zhi and I thought something terrible had happened to you!”
“Wait, she was the one who took me to Gu Mingxi’s room last night?” Yu Xinxin grabbed Zhou Tong’s wrist urgently. Last night, she’d been fine at dinner—no way she’d been drugged before that. Everyone ate the same food; it couldn’t have been just her. The only possibility left was that drink.
Zhou Tong winced and rubbed her wrist. “Yeah. Seriously, your alcohol tolerance is awful. One glass and you were completely wasted.”
“You know I can’t handle alcohol.” Clearly, Zhou Tong hadn’t realized how serious last night was. Yu Xinxin didn’t bother explaining—Zhou Tong was a blabbermouth. If she told her everything, the whole school would know. How could she face anyone then? But why would Zhao Manshu do this? She hadn’t done anything to offend her.
And the relationship between Wei Zhi and Gu Mingxi was strange too. Not like ordinary cousins—more like adversaries. Wei Zhi had even warned her to stay away from Gu Mingxi.
Less like sisters, more like enemies.
