- Chapter 1 - Shameless Expectations Begin
The small basement had been renovated into a one-bedroom suite with a private bathroom.
Ni Yunshi knelt weakly beside the grand Pear Blossom Wood bed, her frailty resembling that of a dying puppy.
On the bed, Ruan Tang sat upright, gazing down at her with eyes full of mockery.
In her past life…
All it took was a single piece of candy in childhood for Ruan Tang to idolize Ni Yunshi as her lifelong White Moonlight.
During university, when Ni Yunshi’s family went bankrupt and fell into deep debt, Ruan Tang did everything she could to help. The two fell in love and exchanged silver rings.
But Ni Yunshi, driven by greed, betrayed Ruan Tang by colluding with her own villainous father. They framed Ruan Tang, forcing her to flee overseas with crushing debts and a criminal warrant for economic crimes.
In that foreign land, Ruan Tang evaded police pursuit, but she couldn’t escape the mercenaries secretly dispatched by her father.
The pain of her face scraping against the concrete was excruciating.
The mercenaries shoved the silver ring into her mouth in a humiliating gesture. “You think your charges were arranged by whom? You think we found you by chance? You think who paid us to hunt you down?”
Every single one of them pointed back to Ni Yunshi!
The debt was the Ni Family’s debt, the location was tracked through a GPS chip hidden in their engagement ring, and the money was the reward she received for working with her father!
The answer struck Ruan Tang’s ears, freezing her struggles instantly.
Before she could even regret it, a gunshot rang out, and Ruan Tang lost consciousness.
Unexpectedly, when she opened her eyes, she found herself reborn, back to the moment she had been expelled from the country.
Drawing on her past life’s experience, she bided her time for three years, returning to the country only to hold a funeral for her villainous father and claim Ni Yunshi as her own.
As the memories intensified, so did Ruan Tang’s hatred. But just then, the person at her feet suddenly struggled violently.
“Mmm!”
The desperate struggle threw Ruan Tang off balance, her head slamming against the headboard.
Her fury surged anew. She yanked Ni Yunshi up forcefully, dragging her into another bout of passion.
Afterward, Ni Yunshi lay prostrate by the bed, her breathing gradually returning to normal. Ruan Tang seized her chin.
“It seems half a year has been enough to train you well,” Ruan Tang sneered, studying the defiance and humiliation on Ni Yunshi’s face at close range. But the next moment, a strange voice echoed around them.
Bullshit! It’s clearly because she’s so skilled!
The voice, sharp and defiant, pierced Ruan Tang’s ears, freezing her movements. Her brow furrowed.
The voice belonged to Ni Yunshi, yet she hadn’t spoken a word!
But the voice continued to burrow into her mind.
Tangtang is so mean! She knows I hate needles! After a shot, I need Tangtang’s kisses to make it stop hurting!
What kind of lousy medicine is this? It’s making my head spin and I can’t feel anything!
Waaah! Tangtang is the worst! She always keeps all the fun to herself!
What the hell is this nonsense?!
Ruan Tang jolted upright, shook her head, and looked back at Ni Yunshi, who was panting on the floor. Ni Yunshi’s eyes were half-open, their icy composure clashing with the blush on her cheeks.
What’s going on? Not even aftercare cuddles?
Is this some new kind of neglect play? Is there a second round coming?
Damn it! I’m starting to shamelessly anticipate it!
Whether it was a hallucination or reality, Ruan Tang caught a fleeting glint of cunning in Ni Yunshi’s icy gaze.
Ruan Tang froze for a moment, then pressed her hand against Ni Yunshi’s chest.
Twist! Scream—
Normally, I’m the one struggling against the drug’s effects. But today, Tangtang is actually going to take the initiative and serve me?!
Heaven has finally opened its eyes! My suffering has finally paid off!
The voices erupted in her mind again, but Ruan Tang clearly felt that Ni Yunshi’s chest wasn’t vibrating. She hadn’t spoken, nor had she used ventriloquism or any other trickery.
Then why…?
Ruan Tang’s thoughts tangled into knots. At the same time, she saw Ni Yunshi close her eyes again, her exquisite features now etched with a mixture of humiliation and resignation.
Hallucinations. It must be hallucinations!
Yes!
I hit my head earlier. I must have a concussion!
Ruan Tang scrambled to her feet, stumbling toward the basement stairs.
“Hey!”
A clear call came from behind, but Ruan Tang didn’t turn back, missing the shock and confusion in Ni Yunshi’s eyes.
Bursting out of the basement, she slammed the heavy wooden door shut and locked it, her heart still pounding wildly.
“Aunt Yuan!” Ruan Tang called out.
The housekeeper appeared instantly, her face betraying surprise as she met Ruan Tang’s gaze.
Only then did Ruan Tang realize her clothes were disheveled.
“Miss, do you… do you need anything?”
“Book an appointment with a neurologist—the sooner, the better!”
Within fifteen minutes, Aunt Yuan had prepared the car, Ruan Tang had straightened her clothes, and they were on their way to the hospital.
After a CT scan confirmed her brain was undamaged, Ruan Tang booked an appointment with a psychiatrist.
“Based on the test results, there’s nothing wrong with your mental state. I recommend getting some rest and relaxation,” the psychiatrist concluded, prescribing her a bottle of melatonin to aid sleep.
Leaving the hospital, Ruan Tang got back into the car.
As she stared at the small bottle in her hand, an inexplicable sense of satisfaction welled up within her.
Ring, ring—
The phone’s ringtone interrupted Ruan Tang’s daydreaming.
She answered, and a woman’s voice came through the line: “Xiao Tang, are you alright? I just called home, and they said you went to the hospital?”
Hearing the familiar concern, the corners of Ruan Tang’s lips curved upward. “Mm, I haven’t been feeling quite myself lately. I went to get some medication.”
The caller was Ruan Tang’s childhood friend, Gu Hewan. Gu Hewan had moved abroad with her family when they were in middle school.
When Ruan Tang had fallen on hard times overseas, she had dialed every number in her phone, but only Gu Hewan had offered help. Gu Hewan had provided her with a place to stay and protection abroad, allowing her to rebuild her life and return home.
“Xiao Tang! Don’t scare me like that! Next time something happens, you have to tell me!” Gu Hewan’s voice was still shaken, with a hint of reproach.
Before Ruan Tang could reply, Gu Hewan continued, her tone self-reproachful: “No, I’m too far away from you! I can’t even take care of you when you need it…”
“Don’t worry, everything’s fine here,” Ruan Tang reassured her.
“If everything were fine, you wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital!” Gu Hewan retorted fiercely.
Before Ruan Tang could respond, the call had already ended. When she tried calling back, she only heard a busy signal.
By the time she returned home, the sun was already setting. In the deep autumn evening, the chill wind sent shivers down her spine.
After a hasty dinner, Ruan Tang went upstairs to her room to rest. But when her gaze landed on the bed, her brow furrowed. “Aunt Yuan, where are my bedding and pillows?”
The spacious room was fully equipped, but the bed was conspicuously missing its bedding and pillows.
Aunt Yuan, who had followed her in, quickly explained, “Miss, you’ve been sleeping in the basement every night for the past three months, so…”
“I’ll sleep here tonight. Please arrange it quickly,” Ruan Tang said with a wave of her hand, not wanting to elaborate further.
It’s probably because I’ve been sharing a bed with my enemy for the past three months that the stress has caused me to hallucinate, she thought.
The room was quickly prepared.
After taking her medication, Ruan Tang rested, sleeping soundly through the night without a single dream.
The next day, Ruan Tang returned home from a meeting at the company, arriving after noon.
“Miss, would you like something to eat?” Aunt Yuan asked, taking Ruan Tang’s coat.
“No, thank you. I’m going to the basement. Please make sure no one disturbs me.”
