The Cold White Moonlight Desires Me Every Day - Chapter 12
Sun Hongwei sneered, snatched the contract, and strode away, taking the black-suited bodyguards at the door with him.
The building returned to its usual quiet.
Ruan Tang went back to her office and resumed working, but Sun Hongwei’s behavior grew increasingly puzzling in her mind.
Just as she was about to call her assistant to inquire, the phone rang first.
Ruan Tang answered, and Gu Hewan’s excited shout burst through the line.
“Xiao Tang! You’re too amazing!”
“Huh? What did I do?” Ruan Tang asked, not trying to hide her confusion.
“Oh, oh, oh! Already playing coy? Do I have to praise you?” Gu Hewan clicked her tongue. “You took down Sun Hongwei! Such a massive move—even I felt the aftershocks all the way over here!”
“Sun Hongwei’s been taken down?” Ruan Tang repeated, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she searched for the latest financial news.
A quick search revealed a deluge of headlines about Sun Hongwei flooding the internet.
There was no need for her to deduce anything from stock trends or corporate movements; the news articles laid out the whole story in detail.
Based on tips from concerned citizens, Hongxin Company is suspected of engaging in predatory lending. Several of its illegal business operations have been shut down and are currently under investigation!
“Alright, Xiao Tang, why are you still being so mysterious with me? My Xiao Tang is the best!” Gu Hewan praised generously.
Ruan Tang, however, had no interest in hearing more. After exchanging a few polite words, she ended the call.
She squatted by her Weibo account, refreshing it every half hour to check for the latest developments.
By noon, the results were finally in.
The investigation revealed that Hongxin Group’s illegal profits exceeded eight figures. The fines they were required to pay would completely drain the company’s resources.
Hongxin Company’s corporate image and stock prices plummeted.
In just one morning, the bubble had burst.
After lunch, when she checked the news again, the company had already declared bankruptcy, with no hope of recovery.
Even the two projects Ruan Tang had seen in the contract that morning had been withdrawn by the upstream partners, who were now seeking new collaborators.
Ruan Tang rubbed her eyes in disbelief.
It wasn’t until the project department called to discuss bidding matters that she dared to believe it: Hongxin Company was truly gone!
At the same time, more doubts surged within her.
Sun Hongwei might not have been a titan of industry, but he possessed extensive connections and considerable resources.
What kind of damning evidence could have brought him down without even allowing him a chance to fight back? And why did he believe she was the one pulling the strings?
Ruan Tang recalled Ni Yunshi’s furtive departure the previous night, and the two images suddenly connected in her mind.
Before she could unravel the mystery, a meeting reminder urged her back to work.
To take over the massive projects Hongxin Company had abandoned after its collapse, the workload had skyrocketed. Ruan Tang worked tirelessly at the office, barely stopping.
During this time, she only managed a brief call to Aunt Yuan, spending most of her time communicating online with Gu Hewan.
Attempting to swallow two major projects at once proved overwhelming, forcing her to seek external assistance.
After two days and a night of relentless work, the team finally returned with the signed contracts.
With the immediate crisis resolved, Ruan Tang let out a long sigh and leaned back in her chair.
Gu Hewan, watching through the video call, couldn’t help but notice her exhaustion.
“Xiao Tang, you’ve worked so hard. You should take a few days to rest now.”
“Your phrasing sounds like a smart assistant,” Ruan Tang quipped.
“I’m worried about you, and you compare my brain to artificial stupidity?” Gu Hewan rolled her eyes on the screen.
Hearing this, Ruan Tang chuckled softly, her eyes losing their professional sharpness and softening with tenderness.
“How dare I? If you hadn’t indulged me, I wouldn’t have the audacity I have today.”
Ever since Gu Hewan took her in after she was stranded abroad, Ruan Tang had never let her guard down around her.
“Good to see you have a conscience. Get some rest tonight. I’ve prepared a surprise for you—it should be delivered to your place soon.” Gu Hewan glanced at her watch.
“Hmm? What is it?” Ruan Tang asked curiously.
“Hehe, go see for yourself,” Gu Hewan teased, feigning mystery. “Happy birthday, Xiao Tang.”
After the call ended, Ruan Tang murmured in realization, “It’s already that day…”
In her past life, she had been driven out of the country by Ni Yunshi and her abusive father on her birthday.
A mix of disappointment and anger surged through her as she gulped down the remaining coffee.
The bitterness suppressed her emotions, allowing her to finally get up and leave the office.
As she pulled into her driveway and pushed open the front door, she heard a resentful, almost cursed-like inner voice:
Kidney thief!
Flooded Cell!
Kill him!
Which park villain had barged in?
Shifting her gaze, Ruan Tang saw Ni Yunshi sitting on the sofa, mercilessly destroying the floral arrangement Aunt Yuan had meticulously arranged in the living room each week.
The vase, once filled with a dozen vibrant red roses, now held only bare stems, their petals scattered around Ni Yunshi.
Expressionless, Ni Yunshi tore off petal after petal, muttering those three phrases repeatedly under her breath.
As the last petal fluttered to the ground, she gritted her teeth and whispered, “Kill him!”
Ruan Tang was speechless.
Just moments ago, Ni Yunshi had been mentally chanting about kidney removal. She could have directly confirmed her murderous intent, yet she insisted on this artificial, mystical ritual.
“Ahem—” Ruan Tang feigned a cough.
Ni Yunshi snapped out of her trance, the ferocity in her features instantly vanishing. She dropped the flower stem and resumed her usual detached demeanor.
She glanced sideways at Ruan Tang. “Oh, the busy bee finally came home?”
You still remember to come back?! You still remember you have a home?!
