The Cold White Moonlight Desires Me Every Day - Chapter 2
In the basement, only the bedside lamp cast a dim, silent glow.
It must be my stress playing tricks on me, Ruan Tang thought, stepping toward the bed.
The woman on the bed still wore the sheer dress from their lovemaking, half-sprawled across the mattress, sound asleep. No blanket covered her. Her face was half-buried in the soft goose-down pillow, the exposed cheek flushed with an unnatural blush, as if she were dreaming of lovers frolicking in water.
“You certainly have a carefree attitude,” Ruan Tang said, her voice sharp and loud enough to rouse the sleeping figure. “Your mistress returns home—where’s the pet’s welcome?”
Normally, Ni Yunshi would reluctantly stop whatever she was doing and crawl to Ruan Tang’s feet, kneeling before her to prepare for their next encounter.
But this time, silence hung in the air long after the words were spoken.
Ruan Tang flicked on the overhead light. The sudden glare made even her eyes water, but the woman on the bed remained motionless.
Infuriated by the blatant disregard, Ruan Tang yanked the pillow from under Ni Yunshi’s face. “Get up!”
With her head no longer supported, Ni Yunshi’s face sank completely into the mattress, seemingly oblivious to the suffocation.
Sensing something was wrong, Ruan Tang frowned and shoved her. The moment her palm touched Ni Yunshi’s skin, a searing heat surged through her hand.
No wonder she’s not responding!
She had a fever so high she’d passed out!
Panic flared in Ruan Tang’s chest. Her first instinct was to cover the woman with a blanket, but there was none on the bed. She whirled around and threw open the closet—only to find it completely empty.
“Aunt Yuan! Get a blanket! Call a doctor!”
Fifteen minutes later, the doctor arrived in the basement, conducted a basic examination of Ni Yunshi, administered a fever-reducing injection, and prescribed medication.
“Give her one packet of medicine three times a day. If her fever doesn’t break within three hours, give her an additional fever-reducing tablet.”
“Thank you for your trouble,” Aunt Yuan said, paying the bill and placing the medicine on the bedside table before seeing the doctor out. When she returned, she found Ruan Tang still sitting by the bed, her dark eyes fixed on the frail Ni Yunshi.
“Miss, you should rest. I’ll take care of things here…”
“No need. I’ll look after her,” Ruan Tang interrupted before Aunt Yuan could finish. “Prepare some convalescent food and keep it warm. She can eat when she wakes up.”
Aunt Yuan nodded and left.
Now alone with Ni Yunshi, Ruan Tang kept an eye on the time as she sat quietly by the bed.
Finally, after an hour and a half had passed, two soft moans came from the bed.
Ruan Tang turned to see Ni Yunshi’s eyes weakly half-open.
After taking her temperature again, Ruan Tang said, “The fever has broken.”
“Are you disappointed I didn’t just die?”
Ni Yunshi retorted with a mocking question, her pride unwavering. If not for her hoarse voice, one would hardly suspect she had just endured such torment. Instead, her usual refined demeanor was now tinged with a fragile beauty.
Ruan Tang’s eyes darkened with anger, and she was about to fire back a cutting remark when the grating voice intruded again.
That b1tch Yuan Qingxue! One meal a day is bad enough, but now she’s stealing my blankets and clothes!
Damn it! Even my burning love can’t keep me warm this winter!
Aaaah! Tangtang saw me looking so pathetic! What am I going to do?! Waaah…
The sobbing voice mingled with shock, exploding in Ruan Tang’s mind.
Has my auditory hallucination still not gone away?
If it wasn’t a hallucination, then this voice…
“Ni Yunshi, why aren’t you covering yourself with a blanket or getting dressed?” Ruan Tang asked, feigning composure as she probed.
“Heh, Ruan Tang, if you want me dead, just kill me directly. No need for these roundabout games.”
Ni Yunshi’s tone was icy, but the other voice was completely different.
Tangtang cares about me! Twists, writhes, and goes completely insane on the spot—
Waaah! Yuan Qingxue is so mean! She stole my things from Tangtang behind my back!
Tangtang doesn’t even know this place is empty. She needs to fill it herself~
As the voice faded, Ruan Tang clearly saw the bed leg beneath the covers twitch silently twice, as if the person underneath had squeezed their legs together.
Ruan Tang’s eyes widened.
She’d better be talking about filling the basement’s wardrobe and refrigerator, not anything else!
The flames of anger in Ruan Tang’s heart began to subside, replaced by a ridiculous thought.
Could those voices in my head actually be Ni Yunshi’s inner thoughts?!
Before Ruan Tang could recover from her shock, another voice echoed from the basement door.
Aaaah! The bad guy’s here! I’m going to turn into a monkey from Mount Emei and use vines to crush her to death!
Make way for the Monkey King!
The clamorous inner voice forcibly snapped Ruan Tang back to reality.
Sure enough, Ni Yunshi had already struggled to sit up on the bed, her eyes blazing with fury as if she were about to pounce toward the door.
Ruan Tang firmly pressed Ni Yunshi back down before turning to the doorway. Aunt Yuan stood there.
“Why are you here? Didn’t I tell you not to let anyone in?” Ruan Tang’s eyes darkened.
Aunt Yuan looked puzzled. “Miss, you asked me to prepare a sick person’s meal…”
More like a last meal! Who knows if she’s trying to poison me now that I didn’t freeze to death?
Only Tangtang would be so sentimental and trust you! My Tangtang is so pure and wonderful! Muah!
As Ni Yunshi’s thoughts faded, the image of her imagining herself hugging and kissing Ruan Tang flashed through Ruan Tang’s mind.
A chill ran through Ruan Tang’s body. By then, Aunt Yuan had already brought the meal over.
A smooth, tender steamed egg custard with minced meat was served alongside a bowl of chicken noodle soup with greens.
Rotten eggs with poisoned chicken soup! That old hag Yuan is trying to kill me!
The clamor of Ni Yunshi’s thoughts grew louder, irritating Ruan Tang.
Seeing Ni Yunshi about to leap up and attack Aunt Yuan, Ruan Tang scooped up a spoonful of the egg custard, blew on it twice, and ate it herself to prove it was safe.
Just as the spoon turned, Ruan Tang’s wrist suddenly tightened. Ni Yunshi abruptly sat up, forcefully pried open Ruan Tang’s hand, and swallowed the mouthful of steamed egg custard.
“Cough, cough—”
Ni Yunshi coughed violently, her shoulders trembling with each spasm. She seemed to be straining to keep herself upright, as if on the verge of collapsing.
Alarmed, Ruan Tang glared at Aunt Yuan. “What did you put in this?”
“Eggs, fresh minced meat, water, salt, and soy sauce,” Aunt Yuan reported truthfully, puzzled by Ruan Tang’s sudden panic. “Miss Ni probably just choked a little. She’ll be fine once she catches her breath.”
“Is that so? Then why…”
Before Ruan Tang could finish her question, Ni Yunshi’s coughing subsided, and she finally exhaled deeply.
“Phew—”
The steamed egg custard actually smells pretty good!
Ruan Tang: ……
“Miss Ni, would you like some water? Or I can make you a bowl of soup later,” Aunt Yuan offered solicitously.
“No need,” Ni Yunshi replied, glaring warily at Aunt Yuan.
MSG mixed with water—the more you drink, the thirstier you get.
I might have yelled a bit earlier, but that doesn’t mean I’ll let you dehydrate me to death.
Even if I die, I’d rather drown between my Tangtang’s thighs!
“Ahem!” Ruan Tang cleared her throat, feigning a cough to mask her embarrassment. “Let’s eat first.”
This time, Ni Yunshi obediently ate on her own, and Aunt Yuan tactfully withdrew.
Just two minutes later, Aunt Yuan returned, carrying a red jewelry box. “Miss, the custom-made item you ordered for Miss Ni has arrived.”
