The Cold White Moonlight Desires Me Every Day - Chapter 31
Before the words could even finish, Ni Yunshi retorted sharply, “Bullshit! If I wanted to, Ruan Tang would never have returned to the country.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Ni Yunshi froze again, turning to look at Ruan Tang.
Damn it, she tricked me!
She lured me into Tangtang’s minefield to dance on the landmines!
Ruan Tang lowered her gaze.
When she first returned to the country, her feelings toward Ni Yunshi were a mix of resentment for being betrayed and fear of retaliation.
But after spending time with Ni Yunshi recently, she suddenly began to doubt: Could it be that my death in my previous life had nothing to do with Ni Yunshi? Was someone else pulling the strings, sowing discord between us?
“Hewan, Ni Yunshi is still living at my house, so I hope you two can get along.”
Ruan Tang’s tone remained gentle as she tried to smooth things over, but her words carried a clear bias.
A flicker of something unreadable crossed Gu Hewan’s eyes, but she still managed a polite smile for Ni Yunshi.
Ooh, ooh, ooh—
Got burned, didn’t you? I’m the one she keeps chained to her side with a golden leash!
You little wildcat with ink-stained paws, trying to act like a golden leopard? You’ve got some nerve!
Ni Yunshi was about to raise her eyebrows in smug triumph when Ruan Tang shot her a dark, warning glare. Then, she took Gu Hewan by the arm and led her away.
In an instant, the tables had turned, and Gu Hewan was now secretly raising her eyebrows at Ni Yunshi, a smug look on her face.
Since all three had been drinking, Ruan Tang called a designated driver.
They had arrived in one car, so naturally they needed one to leave.
But just as Ruan Tang and Gu Hewan settled into the back seat, the car door suddenly swung open again.
Ni Yunshi squeezed in, unerringly finding the narrow gap between Gu Hewan and Ruan Tang in the cramped space and plopping down.
Gu Hewan was shoved against the door, her irritation palpable.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m broke and can’t afford a designated driver. Since we live together anyway, I’ll just hitch a ride home with you.” Ni Yunshi spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world, giving Gu Hewan a pitiful look.
As if it were Gu Hewan’s fault for interfering at the conference that she couldn’t afford a ride.
“Fine, I’ll pay for your driver. You…”
Bang!
Before Gu Hewan could finish, Ni Yunshi had already slammed the car door shut with a long arm.
“Driver, let’s go.”
The driver, ever obedient, started the car without a word, determined to avoid any trouble.
Gu Hewan, of course, wasn’t about to let this go. She and Ni Yunshi engaged in a silent battle of wills, jostling each other as the car swayed.
Eeyah? You dare push me!
How could someone as shameless as me let you push me around?
When the enemy advances, I retreat; when the enemy retreats, I advance; when the enemy camps, I harass; when the enemy tires, I strike!
Though Ruan Tang was shielded in a corner, she could still sense Ni Yunshi’s constant little movements.
She subtly tugged at Ni Yunshi’s sleeve, hoping she would restrain herself.
But instead of breaking them up, Ni Yunshi’s grip on her wrist tightened.
Her fingers quietly slipped beneath Ruan Tang’s sleeve, her fingertips gently caressing the smooth skin of her wrist.
Even if the movement were done openly, it wouldn’t be considered vulgar—merely suggestive.
But as Ruan Tang felt Ni Yunshi’s touch, her body stiffened. She’s truly meticulous! she thought. Pressuring others while seducing me at the same time!
Back at home, Ruan Tang prepared the guest room next door for Gu Hewan.
The bedding and daily necessities ordered online arrived quickly. Gu Hewan went to unpack, while Ni Yunshi leaned against the wall, watching coldly.
Three years of cohabitation, and we’re still separated by a wall?
Hmph, unlike me, who shares a bed with Tangtang every night…
“Hmm?”
Ni Yunshi’s lewd thoughts were interrupted by a sudden weight in her hand.
Looking down, she saw Ruan Tang had handed her a new bedsheet.
“Go change it,” Ruan Tang instructed.
Ni Yunshi stroked the soft fabric and nodded in agreement. “Okay.”
Looks like Tangtang’s been into lake blue lately.
Roar! Blue is the best! It makes me look even more alluring!
I remember there’s also a blue lace…
Just as Ni Yunshi stepped through Ruan Tang’s doorway, she felt a tug from behind.
Ruan Tang pulled her back and pointed to the opposite room. “Go to that room.”
Ni Yunshi’s eyes widened in shock. Ruan Tang grabbed a pillow from inside and shoved it into her arms.
“Go now, and be quiet,” Ruan Tang urged in a low voice.
They had to sleep apart tonight!
Otherwise, with Ni Yunshi’s outrageous boldness, Ruan Tang’s carefully maintained image in her childhood friend’s eyes would be completely ruined!
She gave Ni Yunshi a couple of gentle pushes, but she didn’t budge.
Confused, Ruan Tang looked up and met Ni Yunshi’s gaze. Ni Yunshi was clutching the pillow, her head bowed and eyes red-rimmed. “Ruan Tang, have you forgotten what you told me before?”
“What?” Ruan Tang asked, bewildered, unable to keep up with her friend’s sudden emotional shift.
“You said I could treat this place like my own home,” Ni Yunshi murmured, tightening her grip on the pillow and sheets. “Ruan Tang, from now on, let’s just… leave each other alone.”
With that, she turned and walked toward the opposite room.
Stop me, Tangtang! Hurry, stop me!
If we sleep in separate rooms tonight, tomorrow I’ll be wearing a green hat!
Waaah, she really has a new love and doesn’t want her old one anymore. She thinks I’m not good enough for her…
If not for Ni Yunshi’s inner thoughts, Ruan Tang would have thought she was the heartless one, given Ni Yunshi’s pitiful, cold demeanor.
As for being “good enough”…
It wasn’t about fearing Gu Hewan might reveal too much and spread rumors that would harm Ruan Tang.
It was simply that their relationship was considered unconventional in society.
It would be best to wait until they’d spent more time together, until Gu Hewan had shed her villainizing filter toward Ni Yunshi, before going public.
Just as Ruan Tang was about to breathe a sigh of relief, she heard the door across the hall open. A roar exploded in her mind:
I’ll decide who wears the green hat, not fate!
“Ugh!”
A sudden weight slammed into Ruan Tang, sending her stumbling backward into her room.
The door closed silently, and a warm, ticklish sensation spread across her neck.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Ruan Tang gritted her teeth, shoving Ni Yunshi off her.
Ni Yunshi didn’t reply, merely licked her lips and gazed contentedly at the mark on Ruan Tang’s neck.
Hmm, perfect!
Ruan Tang froze, then scrambled for a mirror.
Sure enough, a suggestive red mark now adorned the side of her neck.
“Are you a cupping jar spirit in disguise?! How am I supposed to face anyone now?!” Ruan Tang hissed through clenched teeth.
Ni Yunshi pouted innocently and sauntered out of the room before Ruan Tang could retaliate.
Confident in Ruan Tang’s genuine affection, she had begun to gradually reveal her true self.
However, as she turned, she saw Gu Hewan from the next room standing at her doorway, already packed and ready.
Seeing Ni Yunshi emerge from Ruan Tang’s room, Gu Hewan showed no surprise, even offering a polite smile as if she had been waiting for her.
“Miss Ni, I’ve ordered takeout for dinner. Xiao Tang is tired and needs to rest. Let’s go tidy up together.”
“Fine,” Ni Yunshi agreed, curious to see what Gu Hewan was planning.
But contrary to her expectations, as they cleared the dishes, Gu Hewan didn’t smash any plates, stage a self-inflicted injury, or frame her for anything.
She simply described the dishes she had ordered: “These are all Cantonese dishes, freshly prepared and delivered by the restaurant’s chef. I remember Xiao Tang mentioning that you love Cantonese cuisine.”
“I don’t like it. You’re mistaken,” Ni Yunshi retorted, rolling her eyes and maintaining her aloof demeanor.
Gu Hewan remained calm, sitting down across from her and fixing her with a steady gaze. “Ni Yunshi, do you really not like Cantonese food? Don’t you like strawberry cream cake? Or sparkling white grape wine?”
