- Chapter 43 - Could Her Skills Possibly Match Mine?
Ni Yunshi’s eyes burned crimson as she glared icily at Gu Hewan, as if her words had detonated a minefield in her heart.
“Without societal acceptance, how could she have achieved her current success and lifestyle?” Gu Hewan scoffed. “Ni Yunshi, you can make your own mistakes, but you can’t drag Xiao Tang down a path of no return!”
“I haven’t done anything wrong!” Ni Yunshi clenched her fists and slammed them against the doorframe. “Being repeatedly betrayed by a scumbag, still clinging to love-struck delusions, hurting yourself to love others, meekly enduring humiliation without speaking up—that’s what’s wrong!”
Her knuckles cracked against the doorframe, but the pain did nothing to snap her out of her rage.
Gu Hewan narrowed her eyes, her heart churning. “Ni Yunshi, do you have some kind of misanthropic mental illness?”
“You’re the one who’s sick!” Ni Yunshi’s hatred intensified. “No one in this world understands what’s about to happen to Tangtang better than I do!”
Gu Hewan’s gaze tightened slightly, perhaps unnerved by the piercing stare. Shock surged uncontrollably within her, and in a moment of panic, she blurted out, “You should have died long ago! Who do you think you are? What right do you have to know anything?!”
“Just because I…”
The words were on the tip of Ni Yunshi’s tongue when she suddenly snapped back to reality, her voice trailing off. Her gaze fixed on Gu Hewan, suspicion flickered in her eyes.
This woman… is she trying to trick me into revealing something?
The sudden silence drew Gu Hewan back to the present. She abruptly changed her tone, “Ni Yunshi, you don’t understand Xiao Tang at all. She doesn’t love you; she’s just fixated on something she couldn’t have in her youth.”
“Bullshit!” Ni Yunshi retorted triumphantly. “Would you kiss a homeless man who just crawled out of a dumpster?”
Gu Hewan was about to reply when Ni Yunshi immediately added, “The kind who sleeps in public toilets!”
“…!”
Gu Hewan fell silent.
Seriously? You’re sacrificing basic hygiene just to provoke me?
As Gu Hewan’s expression darkened, Ni Yunshi’s eyebrows arched higher.
She tapped her red lips with a slender finger. “Tangtang kissed me.”
“Hey, delivery guy? Can you bring over some deworming medicine and anti-diarrheal pills?” Gu Hewan called out to the delivery service.
After hanging up, seeing Ni Yunshi’s smugness remained unshaken, Gu Hewan casually asked, “Ni Yunshi, have you ever actually heard Xiao Tang say she loves you?”
The question struck with surgical precision.
Given Ruan Tang’s stubbornness, she would never utter such sentimental words.
Ni Yunshi rolled her eyes dismissively. “My relationship with Xiao Tang is built on everyday life. We don’t need grand declarations.”
“Really? How would you know if she doesn’t tell you? She certainly bares her heart to me.” Gu Hewan raised her eyebrows even higher, adding before Ni Yunshi could retort, “If you don’t believe me, we can make a bet tonight.”
Ni Yunshi frowned, her resolve wavering.
Time ticked by, the sun sinking toward the western horizon.
Just before night swallowed the last sliver of daylight, Ruan Tang finally drove home.
The moment she pushed open the door, the aroma of delicious food wafted through the air, making her mouth water. Stepping into the dining room, she saw Ni Yunshi and Gu Hewan setting the table with bowls, chopsticks, and drinks.
“I wondered where you were during the meeting,” Ruan Tang said, giving Gu Hewan a reproachful look before glancing worriedly at Ni Yunshi. “So you just skipped out to slack off at home?”
I hope they didn’t argue while I was gone, she thought.
“I was running errands and came straight home when I saw the time. I just got here myself. Ask Shishi if you don’t believe me,” Gu Hewan explained, turning her gaze to Ni Yunshi.
Ni Yunshi nodded, and Ruan Tang’s heart finally relaxed.
The three women settled around the table. Ruan Tang had just picked up her chopsticks to take a bite when she noticed Gu Hewan’s downcast expression.
“What’s wrong? Did things not go well this afternoon?” Ruan Tang asked, setting down her chopsticks.
“No, let’s just eat,” Gu Hewan replied, forcing a smile. She picked up her chopsticks and placed a piece of braised beef brisket in Ruan Tang’s bowl.
The beef brisket was glossy and cut into neat, even pieces.
Ruan Tang glanced at it briefly before setting down her chopsticks again, her gaze fixed intently on Gu Hewan across the table. “You don’t look like you want me to enjoy my meal.”
“It’s nothing really,” Gu Hewan said, her eyes reddening as anxiety welled up in their depths. “It’s just that my family’s business is facing some cash flow issues.”
Ruan Tang’s brow furrowed, her mind immediately conjuring images of the Gu Family’s precarious situation.
“Xiao Tang, what if our family really runs out of cash and all our projects have to be halted?” Gu Hewan asked, tears threatening to spill.
“That won’t happen,” Ruan Tang said calmly. “The group still holds the Gu Family’s shares and assets. At worst, we’ll just have to return and rebuild.”
Gu Hewan shook her head vehemently. “Impossible. My family hasn’t managed things here for so long. They’ll definitely demand independence. Xiao Tang, we’re about to be in different circles.”
“No, as long as I’m still in this circle, you won’t leave it,” Ruan Tang said firmly.
Gu Hewan paused, momentarily speechless in surprise.
Ruan Tang quickly added, “You and your parents have been so kind to me. Of course I’ll do everything I can to help you.”
“So it’s just because of my parents’ kindness to you…” Gu Hewan pouted, her disappointment evident.
Ruan Tang chuckled softly, reaching out to take her hand. “You saved my life. Doesn’t that mean everything I have is yours?”
At this, Gu Hewan smiled warmly. “Xiao Tang is so sweet.”
Yo yo yo yo—
Xiao Tang is so sweet~ Xiao Tang is so sweet~
My life is yours~ Why don’t you let her sell you to northern Myanmar for funding?!
A cacophony of voices erupted in Ruan Tang’s mind. At the same moment, a sharp pain shot through her toes.
She glanced sideways to see Ni Yunshi buried in her meal, seemingly oblivious to the interaction between Ruan Tang and Gu Hewan.
But beneath the table, the pressure of Ni Yunshi’s foot on hers was relentless, even intensifying.
Holding hands, holding hands!
She’s a straight girl! Her hand skills can’t compare to mine!
Look at me! Look at me! Look at me or I’ll gouge your eyes out!
Sour bubbles erupted in her heart!
She had been ambushed abroad, and it was indeed the Gu Family who saved her life. She was merely stating a fact, yet it was as if she had blown up an entire vinegar factory.
Ruan Tang felt aggrieved, but she subtly withdrew her hand, leaving no trace of her inner turmoil.
Gu Hewan pretended not to notice anything amiss, smiling as she picked up more food. “There’s still a chance for things to turn around back home. But hearing you say that makes me feel much more reassured.”
As she spoke, she continued to pick up food, accidentally knocking a packet off the table with her other hand.
Ruan Tang bent down to retrieve it and saw it was traditional Chinese medicine for stomach ailments. She frowned. “Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, I just saw it was on sale when I was shopping online and figured it’s always good to have some on hand,” Gu Hewan explained, glancing at Ni Yunshi. “Shishi probably hasn’t been eating well these past few days. She can take some if she feels uncomfortable.”
My cosmic iron stomach can devour the heavens and earth!
You’re the one full of bad intentions! You should be the one taking this medicine!
