- Chapter 44 - Say You Love Me, But Don't Say My Name
Ni Yunshi remained silent, inwardly redefining the value of the stomach medicine.
Ruan Tang glanced at the benefits listed on the packaging, measured out a single dose, and swallowed it with warm water.
“Hmm? Xiao Tang, are you feeling unwell?” Gu Hewan asked, surprised.
“No, I just accidentally ate something dirty. This is just a precaution,” Ruan Tang replied, recalling the incident at noon and involuntarily rinsing her mouth with another sip of water.
At that moment, her recently relaxed toes were instantly under immense pressure again.
Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle!
You’re a toad, puffing up your cheeks!
Croak all you want, I’ll make you the king of loneliness!
Ruan Tang hurriedly set down her water glass, inwardly speechless.
I can’t possibly admit to my childhood friend that I was making out with someone from the trash heap, can I?
Wouldn’t that make me look like a trash-picking simp in her eyes?
“Let’s eat,” Ruan Tang said, picking up her chopsticks and placing a piece of spicy chicken on Ni Yunshi’s plate. Only then did the pressure on her toes ease.
But Ni Yunshi didn’t eat the chicken. Instead, she stared intently at Ruan Tang, as if waiting for her to continue.
Ruan Tang was puzzled. I’ve already hinted at giving in, what more does she want?
“Why are my personal belongings in the same room as yours?” Ni Yunshi asked, her eyes filled with resentment.
Tell her about our kisses, our embraces, our nights in bed!
Tell her how you put a collar on me and how I made you moan!
Tell her everything! In detail!
No! I’d rather die than say that!
Ruan Tang’s eyes darted guiltily to the side. “You can’t sleep alone. Besides me, would you rather disturb Hewan?”
The moment the question left her lips, a soft thump echoed through the room.
Ni Yunshi slammed her chopsticks down heavily, rose abruptly, and stormed upstairs.
“Shishi, you’ve barely started eating! Where are you going?” Gu Hewan called out anxiously.
“I’m full,” Ni Yunshi replied curtly.
I’m full of anger!
Comfort me! Comfort me now!
Or I’m leaving. I’m leaving right now! You’re just going to let me walk away like this?
Ni Yunshi deliberately slowed her pace.
“She knows when she’s full,” Ruan Tang retorted stubbornly, her own frustration simmering.
We haven’t slept in two days searching for her, and this afternoon I had to smooth things over with the company. How dare she throw a tantrum at me?
Waaaaah!
“You’re so mean, Tangtang! You’ve lost your wife!”
“Just stay single and lonely forever!”
Ni Yunshi quickened her pace, secretly sniffling as she stomped upstairs.
As soon as the footsteps faded completely, with no lingering hesitation, Ruan Tang’s brow furrowed.
I’ve forgotten Aunt Yuan’s advice again, she thought, falling back into my old habits.
“You eat first,” Ruan Tang said hesitantly, putting down her chopsticks. “I’ll go check on her upstairs.”
Gu Hewan smiled and nodded, signaling she didn’t mind eating alone. Only then did Ruan Tang turn and head upstairs.
The bedroom door wasn’t fully closed.
Ni Yunshi sat curled up on the bed, punching the pillow repeatedly.
“Stupid Tangtang! I—”
“Ahem—”
Her angry curse was cut short by a deliberate cough.
Ni Yunshi turned her head and found herself face-to-face with Ruan Tang’s eyes.
“What do you want?” Ni Yunshi straightened up, her pretty face cold and aloof.
“Just checking how full you are from being so angry,” Ruan Tang said, stepping closer and leaning down.
Ni Yunshi quickly averted her gaze, but Ruan Tang’s hand caught her chin, tilting her face up.
She could clearly see the faint redness at the corners of Ni Yunshi’s eyes.
“You’re this jealous over my normal social interactions?” Ruan Tang frowned.
Ni Yunshi’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief.
Normal socializing includes passing dishes and holding hands? What’s abnormal is getting banned and thrown into the blacklist!
What else could it be?
How many times had their interactions been censored and altered?
Ruan Tang mentally grumbled, simultaneously cursing herself for being too proud to coax Ni Yunshi.
Just as she braced herself for another outburst, Ni Yunshi spoke again, her tone surprisingly calm.
“Be more careful with your words in the future. You should think more about yourself.”
“Huh?” Ruan Tang blinked, confused.
How are her inner thoughts and spoken words so completely unrelated?
Her bewilderment was plain on her face. Ni Yunshi’s frown deepened, and she cupped Ruan Tang’s face between her hands.
“I’m saying you shouldn’t risk your life for others! You should love yourself!”
Ni Yunshi emphasized each of the last three words, as if afraid Ruan Tang might miss the point.
After a few seconds of contemplation, Ruan Tang realized Ni Yunshi was fixating on the comforting words she had spoken to Gu Hewan at the dinner table earlier.
“I was just saying it casually…”
“If you say things like that casually, it proves that’s what you truly believe!” Ni Yunshi’s anger flared anew.
“Then I’ll say those words to you from now on.”
Ruan Tang complied, but to her surprise, Gu Hewan’s delicate face darkened further. After releasing her hand, she turned her head away.
“I don’t want to hear it!”
Stubborn Tangtang!
She still doesn’t understand! Just tell her to love herself!
Her ears are like fluttering moths—pretty but useless!
Ruan Tang sat down awkwardly beside her, touching her ear with a sheepish smile. A warmth spread through her heart.
From childhood, she had only ever heard about striving for success, working hard, pleasing her father, and earning the favor of elders and peers.
No one had ever told her that loving herself was enough.
“I’ll be more careful with my words when talking to Gu Hewan in the future,” Ruan Tang said, her voice softening. Her hand, resting on the bed, cautiously reached toward Ni Yunshi’s fingertips.
Finally, you hit a wall and realize you need to turn back!
You only wipe your nose when the snot’s already in your mouth!
Now you try to coax me? Too late! I’m already leaving!
Despite the inner rant, Ni Yunshi’s hand remained gently cradled in Ruan Tang’s palm.
As expected, her actions betray her words.
Ruan Tang silently scooted closer, then tilted her head back, her soft lips pressing against Ni Yunshi’s throat.
The little thing’s actually learning to put her lessons to good use…
Ni Yunshi lowered her head slightly, and another pair of crimson lips immediately pressed against hers.
A soft, warm pressure spread between their lips and teeth as their intertwined fingers tightened their grip.
The blankets rustled as a heavy weight settled onto them, forcing air out with a soft poof.
Their long hair spread across the bed, the ends tangling together.
With each breath, the temperature rose, and restless emotions enveloped them, growing more intense.
Yet, after a long embrace, Ni Yunshi’s hand didn’t wander to Ruan Tang’s body as it usually did.
Is she still angry? Does she want me to make the first move?
Ruan Tang’s hand slipped under Ni Yunshi’s hem, but before she could explore further, Ni Yunshi suddenly pressed down on her wrist.
“Tangtang, can you say something sweet to me?”
Her eyes were like silk, her lips glistening like ripe cherries—she was utterly irresistible.
“I… I want to…” Ruan Tang stammered, her face flushed to the roots of her ears, unable to bring herself to utter any vulgar words.
“Not like that,” Ni Yunshi clarified, “just something normal.”
She propped herself up and flipped over, reversing their positions and hovering lightly over Ruan Tang.
Their faces were inches apart, her luminous eyes brimming with anticipation.
Suddenly, warm fingertips brushed lightly across Ruan Tang’s lips, sending a searing heat through her body.
“Ruan Tang, tell me you love me, but don’t use my name.”
