The documents on the desk were ones Ruan Tang had brought home from work. Whenever she needed to work overtime at home, she always handled it here.

Unlike the rest of the room, the desk was cluttered with scattered papers and an uncapped pen.

As Ni Yunshi approached, she noticed the signature date at the bottom of the documents: two days prior.

Clearly, Aunt Yuan hadn’t tidied this area or reviewed the contents of the papers.

Downstairs at the dining table, Ruan Tang waited for ten minutes, her brow furrowing.

Just as her patience was about to run out, Ni Yunshi finally sauntered down the stairs, heading toward the basement.

“Come here and sit down,” Ruan Tang called out.

Ni Yunshi froze, snapped out of her daze, and obeyed.

Aunt Yuan placed cutlery in front of her, adding to her confusion.

“From now on, whenever I’m home, you’ll come out and eat with me,” Ruan Tang declared, taking a sip of her plain congee.

Meanwhile, a whiny voice echoed in her mind:

Waaah, poor Tangtang!

Even her congee has no pickles! I’ll be her human pickled vegetable!

“Cough—” Ruan Tang choked.

Can’t I ever catch a break?

At that moment, Aunt Yuan brought out the cake and deliberately placed it closer to Ni Yunshi.

The fragrant aroma of cream and fresh strawberries, combined with the bakery’s logo on the corner of the base, unmistakably signaled that this cake was not cheap.

“Eat,” Ruan Tang said, lifting her chin.

Now she won’t think I’m going bankrupt, will she?

This expensive cake is probably the last one I’ll ever buy.

Tangtang loves me so much, so she should eat more!

Ni Yunshi pushed the cake back to the center of the table, her face cold. “I don’t like it.”

“Fine, don’t eat it if you don’t like it. I won’t be buying any more anyway. You can’t afford it anymore either,” Ruan Tang said through gritted teeth.

Since Ni Yunshi’s mind couldn’t grasp the truth, Ruan Tang decided to play along with her delusion and see how she planned to support the family.

As Ruan Tang was about to soften her tone, there was another knock at the door.

Aunt Yuan opened it to find several plainclothes officers standing outside.

“We received a tip alleging that Ruan Tang is unlawfully detaining Ni Yunshi in this residence. We’re here to investigate. Here’s the search warrant approved by the authorities, along with our identification.”

Before Aunt Yuan could speak, the officers had already entered the house.

Immediately, the basement, bedrooms, and every corner of the house were thoroughly searched.

Finally, Team Leader Li, the officer in charge of the investigation, turned his attention to the two women at the table.

“Ruan Tang, how do you explain the reverse-installed lock in the basement, the room’s modifications, and the other person’s identification found in the safe?”

“This is my home. I’ll decorate it however I please and put things wherever I want. What’s the problem?” Ruan Tang said matter-of-factly.

Team Leader Li slammed his hand on the table, then played four or five photographs and a recording.

The photos all showed Ni Yunshi in revealing clothing, wearing a collar around her neck, cowering on the basement bed.

The recording captured their intimate moments, with Ni Yunshi sobbing and begging Ruan Tang not to drug her.

When these items were revealed, Ruan Tang froze in shock.

At the same moment, Team Leader Li turned to Ni Yunshi. “Miss Ni, did Ruan Tang put the collar around your neck?”

“Miss Ni, you don’t need to be afraid. Just tell the truth,” Team Leader Li pressed again.

“Yes.”

Ni Yunshi curled her lips into a smile, cleared her throat as if afraid they hadn’t heard clearly, and added, “Ruan Tang personally put the collar around my neck.”

A ringing sensation flashed through Ruan Tang’s mind before she snapped back to reality.

Of course, she thought. Now that help has arrived, why wouldn’t she call for it?

“Ni Yunshi, you dare accuse me?” Ruan Tang gritted her teeth in resentment.

She’s nothing but a money-grubbing, black-hearted woman!

Yet she maintained a cold, unyielding facade, as if she were some pure, untouchable flower blooming on a distant mountain peak.

If she had only smiled at him, shown him a hint of vulnerability, he wouldn’t have been driven to obsessively grind her into the mud every time.

When Ruan Tang glared at her, Ni Yunshi instinctively trembled and recoiled, her face adopting a pitiful expression, like an innocent white flower.

Team Leader Li immediately stepped forward, separating the two women. “Ruan Tang, please come with us.”

With a soft clink, he produced a pair of gleaming handcuffs from behind his back.

Faced with Ni Yunshi’s accusations and the physical evidence, Ruan Tang had no defense.

As the handcuffs drew closer, Ni Yunshi’s hand suddenly reached out from behind Team Leader Li, halting his attempt to restrain her.

“She doesn’t need to go with you.”

The abrupt shift in tone startled Ruan Tang.

“What?” Team Leader Li asked, puzzled.

Ni Yunshi rolled her eyes. “Ruan Tang put this on me herself, but she didn’t force me to wear it.”

“Miss Ni, we’ll enforce the law fairly. You don’t need to worry about being threatened…”

Before Team Leader Li could finish, Ni Yunshi cut him off:

“So pillow talk during bedroom games now counts as threats?”

“But this…” Team Leader Li pointed to his neck, still skeptical.

What’s the matter, kid? Eyes wide open but no light getting through?

Ni Yunshi rolled her eyes again and thrust the chain’s leash end at Team Leader Li. “Officer, take a good look at the material.”

Threatening people with gold? This is Tangtang’s love!

I fell into this trap for love! I did it willingly! I’m targeting Tangtang’s lovesick brain!

Her inner voice screamed, as if she were about to leap up and start slapping people. Yet her face remained cool and composed, as impeccably proper as ever.

Team Leader Li recognized the unusual material and reached out to weigh it in his hand to confirm.

Clatter!

The gold chain jingled softly as Ni Yunshi retracted it. She then handed the leash end to Ruan Tang, her gaze fixed on the officer. “Sorry, it’s owner-bound. I don’t like strangers touching it.”

Woof woof woof!!

This b1tch is a loyal dog! Reach out again and I’ll bite your hand off!

What’s wrong? Does she not acknowledge me? Waaah…

The tearful commotion erupted again. Ruan Tang finally reached out and took the chain, her fingertips gently tracing its surface. She couldn’t shake the feeling that its texture was somehow different from before.

Seeing Ruan Tang holding the chain, Ni Yunshi immediately began barking fiercely like a Corgi straining against its leash.

“We might get a little wild, but we only have each other, and we’re not breaking any laws!”

“Besides, we always take our clothes off before getting physical! Fighting with clothes on is domestic violence, but naked fighting is just foreplay!”

Her rapid-fire rant left everyone speechless.

“U-uh, sorry to bother you,” Team Leader Li finally stammered after a long silence, waving his hand to signal a retreat.

As he reached to collect the evidence from the table, Ni Yunshi’s lightning reflexes kicked in again, her hand slamming down to stop him.

“Don’t be so quick to pack up! I want to file a report too! This is all evidence!”

“What?” Team Leader Li was stunned again.

“Someone’s been invading our privacy, secretly monitoring us, and illegally gathering evidence! This is a serious offense that demands a full investigation and accountability!”
