The Cold White Moonlight Desires Me Every Day - Chapter 8
Ni Yunshi immediately turned the tables with her counterattack.
Team Leader Li didn’t reject the new case. He recorded the details, completed the necessary procedures, and had Ni Yunshi sign the documents on the spot.
After the outsiders left, the vast space fell silent once more.
Ni Yunshi let out a soft hum and turned her head, meeting Ruan Tang’s probing gaze head-on.
Oh no, oh no, oh no! I got carried away with the verbal sparring and forgot my aloof persona!
Waaah, I’m not Tangtang’s precious anymore!
Tangtang likes cool, aloof beauties, and I’ve turned into a shrew!
Cool, aloof beauties?
Ruan Tang’s eyebrows arched even higher. How could she not know about this particular preference of her own?
“Ahem, stop staring. You still owe me money. Until you return what was stolen from me, don’t even think about escaping.”
Ni Yunshi resumed her detached demeanor, casting a cold glance at Ruan Tang.
Ruan Tang didn’t call her out, merely pondered the situation while examining the gold chain in her hand. “I had no backup plan earlier. You could have left.”
“Hmph, don’t think you can weasel out of your debt,” Ni Yunshi retorted, glaring fiercely.
Damn it! Is she trying to pull up her skirt and pretend she doesn’t know me?
Yesterday, she didn’t lock the basement door, and today she didn’t scold me for running away…
Hmph, could she really be keeping someone else behind my back?!
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, Ni Yunshi’s gaze grew increasingly resentful.
“If I could only default on my debt and couldn’t repay it, would you sue me to recover it?” Ruan Tang countered, an unconscious glint of curiosity flickering in her eyes.
She wanted to see Ni Yunshi’s true nature once more.
As expected, Ni Yunshi’s eyes flashed with pity at her words.
Even Ruan Tang, without her ability to hear thoughts, would have missed this subtle shift.
Before Ni Yunshi could respond, Ruan Tang spoke again: “I’m full. You should finish your meal and go rest too.”
Full my ass! Apart from that mouthful of plain congee, there’s not even a sip of cold wind to drink in this house!
Ni Yunshi frowned. “Ruan Tang, eat a little more…”
Before she could finish, Ruan Tang had already risen and headed upstairs without looking back.
Only after returning to her room and closing the door did Ruan Tang lean against the door, taking deep breaths repeatedly, yet still unable to calm her wildly racing heart.
The sudden arrival of the police officers had indeed startled her.
But later, Ni Yunshi’s protectiveness and the way she looked at her had made her heart pound even faster than during the initial panic…
Meanwhile, downstairs, Ni Yunshi bit her lip, gazing at the staircase before turning to Aunt Yuan.
“Give me my phone. I’m going out.”
As the night deepened, Ruan Tang only snapped out of her daze when her phone’s rest reminder alarm went off.
After returning to her room from downstairs, she found herself unable to calm her racing thoughts. She decided to bury herself in work to distract herself from her wild imaginings.
Busy with work, she lost track of time, and another two or three hours slipped by.
Knock, knock—
Someone rapped on her door.
It was probably Aunt Yuan, noticing the light in her room and coming to urge her to rest. A little nagging might be nice.
“Come in,” Ruan Tang called out.
The door opened, but the figure who entered was entirely unexpected.
Ni Yunshi!
She had changed out of her usual lounging robe into jeans and a button-down shirt.
It was an ordinary outfit, but her slender waist and full hips made the tight jeans accentuate her curves beautifully, making her legs appear even longer.
The wine-red shirt was crisp and structured, with the top two buttons left undone, revealing her pale neck. The gold chain of her collar, hidden beneath the fabric, hung smoothly down her chest.
There was nothing vulgar about it, yet the effect was undeniably seductive, as if deliberately trying to conceal her sensuality only to make it more obvious.
Unlike her usual fragile, delicate beauty, Ni Yunshi now exuded a colder, more striking allure, even a hint of aggression.
Ruan Tang raised an eyebrow. “After throwing a tantrum with outsiders, what do you want now?”
“I want my money back. When can you repay me?” Ni Yunshi stepped closer.
Ruan Tang suddenly realized she was still holding a tray with a bowl of plain congee and a small plate of shrimp and Shanghai greens.
Was she here to feed me?
Why is she just staring and not eating? Does Tangtang not like shrimp?
Impossible! I wouldn’t misremember Tangtang’s favorite food!
Ugh, my finger hurts…
Ruan Tang glanced sideways and saw Ni Yunshi secretly pouting, staring at a fresh cut on her fingertip.
It was a mark left by the needle she’d used to devein the shrimp.
In her haste to bring the food over, Ni Yunshi hadn’t treated the cut. Though minor, she didn’t want it to get infected.
Just as she was about to squeeze out the bl00d, a bandage and a packet of iodine-soaked cotton swabs were pushed toward her.
Ni Yunshi froze, looking up to see Ruan Tang turning her head away, her gaze fixed on the distance.
Oho! Caught you!
So she wasn’t eating because she found me too tempting! Tangtang, you little pervert!
Ni Yunshi’s lips twitched into a secret smile. She turned and deliberately stepped back into Ruan Tang’s line of sight.
The sudden shift startled Ruan Tang, who was already feeling guilty, causing her to stiffen slightly.
Ruan Tang had been about to swivel her chair back to face the other way when Ni Yunshi suddenly grabbed the armrest, stopping her movement.
“What exactly are you trying to pull?” Ruan Tang demanded, her face stern, though the tips of her ears, hidden beneath her long hair, were already flushed crimson.
“What do you mean you can’t repay me?” Ni Yunshi countered, ignoring the question.
Leaning forward with her hand gripping the chair, the half-open collar of her blouse aligned perfectly with Ruan Tang’s peripheral vision.
As if realizing her movement had disarranged her loose hair, Ni Yunshi raised a hand to tuck a strand behind her ear, her little finger hooking the collar to widen the opening, revealing half of her right collarbone.
At this angle, even a casual glance would offer a glimpse of her alluring figure.
Little pervert, you must be completely mesmerized by this!
Indeed, despite their previous intimate encounters, Ni Yunshi’s cold facade masking her deliberate seduction still stirred a hidden current in Ruan Tang’s heart.
As expected, this woman is full of tricks! She’s all pretense and no substance!
Ruan Tang turned her face away, speaking through half-closed lips, “Exactly what it sounds like. The company’s struggling, and things are complicated with our partners.”
Seduction works every time!
Ni Yunshi’s heart surged with emotion, but she kept her expression neutral. She straightened up and pushed the dishes she had brought closer to Ruan Tang. “Eat first. We’ll find a way to resolve the business issues.”
Her words carried a perfunctory yet subtly comforting tone.
“Aren’t you supposed to be meticulous? Wouldn’t my troubles be to your advantage?” Ruan Tang asked, her eyes filled with suspicion.
“I love money,” Ni Yunshi replied coldly. “I don’t want my assets used to plug your holes.”
Ruan Tang nodded noncommittally, her expression unreadable.
Ni Yunshi turned her face away.
Tangtang is so gullible!
She’s the one who’s truly gullible! Ruan Tang thought with amusement.
The earlier crisis had interrupted her meal, leaving her stomach rumbling after all the mental exertion.
But just as she picked up her chopsticks, a mental voice intruded:
Whoa! Sorry, Tangtang.
But you can’t blame me—my phone and ID are here, after all.
Just a little sleeping pill. A good night’s rest, and everything will be over…
The nascent feelings between them vanished in an instant.
Controlling herself, Ruan Tang picked up a shrimp with her chopsticks and offered it directly to Ni Yunshi’s lips.
Ni Yunshi froze. “W-what are you doing?”
