- Chapter 9 - Ni Yunshi, Your Performance Was Truly Flawless
“You must not have eaten properly earlier with all the commotion. Please, eat first,” Ruan Tang said, her tone filled with concern.
“I’m already full,” Ni Yunshi demurred.
“It’s been two or three hours since you last ate. Surely you can manage just one bite?” Ruan Tang smiled gently, her lips curving into a warm expression.
But Ni Yunshi only grew more flustered, hastily stepping back and shaking her head. “I’m on a diet. I don’t eat after leaving the restaurant.”
“Shrimp isn’t fattening, and it’s just one bite. It’s fine, right?”
“Don’t starve yourself to death and then blame me,” Ni Yunshi retorted, shaking her head again.
She believed her excuse was airtight, but the light in Ruan Tang’s eyes flickered and died.
“Are you afraid I’ll starve to death, or afraid that if I live, I’ll interfere with your plans?”
Ni Yunshi froze.
She… she knows I drugged her? When? How?
In the next instant, Ruan Tang slammed her chopsticks onto the table and swept the dishes and food off the table with a violent motion.
The porcelain plates shattered on impact, the dull crash followed by a chaotic mess of shards, spilled soup, and scattered vegetable leaves across the floor.
As Ni Yunshi stood dumbfounded, a cold voice cut through the air.
“Ni Yunshi, your act was truly flawless!” Ruan Tang’s gaze was fierce and malevolent.
What bullshit about willingly falling into a trap for love!
What loyal dog recognizing its master!
What they only saw each other!
It was all just her own delusional fantasies and wishful thinking!
Ni Yunshi had always been putting on an act with her, never truly loving her. From beginning to end, she had been scheming!
Thoughts and hatred surged within Ruan Tang, her bl00d rushing to her head. Her body began to tremble uncontrollably.
“Ruan Tang…”
“Don’t say my name!”
Ni Yunshi had barely spoken when Ruan Tang cut her off with a furious shout.
Yet Ni Yunshi continued to approach. Ruan Tang shoved her away with a violent, backhanded push.
The unexpected force sent Ni Yunshi staggering backward, losing her balance and collapsing to the floor.
“Ah!”
A brief cry of alarm was followed by a dull thud.
Ni Yunshi slumped to the ground like a marionette with its strings cut, all strength draining from her limbs.
The corner of her forehead had struck the edge of the desk, a dark red stream of bl00d flowing over her brow bone and into her eye socket, forcing her to keep her eyes shut.
The air froze.
Ruan Tang stood rigid, panic rising from the depths of her heart.
“I’m…”
The apology died on her lips as Ni Yunshi glanced up at her, her eyes burning with fierce resentment.
Damn it, damn it!
So you want to kill me, huh? You want us both to die together, is that it?!
The venomous thoughts pierced Ruan Tang’s ears, choking the apology in her throat, rendering her utterly speechless.
Suffocating helplessness enveloped her, causing her to tremble even more violently.
She had never intended for the conflict to turn violent, let alone threaten Ni Yunshi’s life! It was just a surge of emotion, a refusal to listen to her words!
Her heart screamed in protest, but years of stubborn pride and the innate coldness of her features transformed her panicked trembling into a display of bloodthirsty rage in Ni Yunshi’s eyes.
Damn it, I must have been blind to have ever liked her!
I couldn’t warm her heart in six months. She deserves to die, deserves to be hurt!
I’m done. I’m done with her! Let her fend for herself!
The hateful thoughts intensified, silencing Ruan Tang’s every attempt to speak.
The commotion from the earlier conflict had already drawn Aunt Yuan to the scene.
When Aunt Yuan saw the situation in the room, she froze for a moment before rushing to help Ni Yunshi up from the floor.
But before anyone could touch her, Ni Yunshi had already pushed herself up using the table for support.
Clutching one eye shut, she glared fiercely at Ruan Tang with her remaining eye before staggering out of the room.
Torn between loyalties, Aunt Yuan ultimately stayed behind.
“Miss…”
“Go, go call a doctor,” Ruan Tang urged, then quickly added, “Just say you don’t want to make a scene and that you’re the one who called.”
“But… what if she asks the doctor for help?” Aunt Yuan frowned.
Ruan Tang shook her head. “Then let her ask for help. Don’t stop the doctor from doing anything.”
As long as the wound isn’t serious, everything will be fine.
As arranged, the doctor arrived quickly.
Ni Yunshi sat quietly on the sofa, passively accepting the bandage.
“It’s just a superficial wound. The bleeding looks worse than it is,” the doctor advised. “If you feel dizzy or have a headache in the back of your head, go to the hospital for a checkup immediately.”
Aunt Yuan waited anxiously in the distance, her heart pounding.
To her surprise, there was no screaming or attempts to call for help during the entire bandage application.
After seeing the doctor off, Aunt Yuan turned to Ni Yunshi. “Miss Ni, what exactly happened tonight?”
“Nothing,” Ni Yunshi replied evasively, her tone betraying her guilt.
Before Aunt Yuan could press further, she had already fled back to the basement in disarray.
The uncleaned dishes in the kitchen and the shattered mess in the room were enough for Aunt Yuan to piece together the general outline of what had occurred.
However, the most crucial piece—the medicine bottle—remained hidden in the basement, concealed by Ni Yunshi.
She returned to her room upstairs.
Ruan Tang remained seated at her desk, her gaze unfocused and distant.
Aunt Yuan knocked on the door, immediately snapping Ruan Tang’s attention back to her. Anxiety was written plainly across her face as she asked urgently, “Is Miss Ni alright?”
“Don’t worry,” Aunt Yuan reassured her. “Miss Ni only suffered superficial injuries and has already returned to the basement to rest.”
“That’s good…” Ruan Tang began to relax, but Aunt Yuan’s next words stopped her short.
“Is it really good, Miss? Your relationship with Miss Ni is unnatural. Even though she left the basement without permission, she protected you in front of outsiders and even made you a late-night snack!”
The tone was almost scolding, leaving Ruan Tang stunned.
After a moment of silence, Ruan Tang’s expression turned colder as she glared at Aunt Yuan. “Did she complain to you?”
“I saw it with my own eyes. Miss, you weren’t like this when you were younger. You need to seriously examine your own feelings!”
Aunt Yuan’s words had become a reprimand. She looked at Ruan Tang with a disapproving gaze.
“Miss, I’ve watched you grow up. You were such a good child when you were younger.”
“That’s because I was stupid back then!” Ruan Tang retorted, her breathing growing ragged. “If you think I’m so bad, then find another mistress!”
Having said her piece, Aunt Yuan turned and left.
The door remained ajar, and the dimness outside, like a ghostly specter, crept into the room, gradually eroding Ruan Tang’s composure.
Not again.
Back when she had been driven abroad, it was Ni Yunshi who had orchestrated her downfall, stirring up trouble until she had no place left to stand.
Now, Ruan Tang held the family fortune and enjoyed unparalleled status. She had everything she should have.
But only she knew that nothing had truly changed.
She was still the villain, an emotionally unstable madwoman who could drag those around her down at any moment.
“Fvck it! Then get out! All of you, get out!”
Ruan Tang kicked over an innocent chair in fury before storming to the walk-in closet. She opened the safe tucked away in the corner and retrieved Ni Yunshi’s identification documents and phone.
After a moment’s thought, Ruan Tang also took out a check, calculating the value of Ni Yunshi’s sold possessions and tucking it into the stack of documents.
Finally, she placed the bundle in the drawer of the cabinet by the bedroom door, then climbed into bed and pulled the covers over her head.
As expected, about three hours later, a rustling sound came from the half-open doorway.
Damn it! My head is throbbing like it’s about to explode, while she’s sleeping like the dead!
I keep her in my heart, and she kicks me into the gutter!
