The Consequences of Provoking a Crazy Beauty (GL) - Chapter 9
At the company gate, the car stopped. Huo Junxian got out with the dog, and the poodle kicked its legs twice, letting out a furious series of barks directed at Gu Siyu.
The sun outside was scorching. It wasn’t easy to protect a heavily furred dog, and soon Huo Junxian’s arm became damp with sweat. Huo Junxian asked, “When should I go there to wait for you?”
“I don’t know, but when I’m done, you absolutely *must* wait for me there,” Gu Siyu said unreasonably.
Huo Junxian didn’t ask her for contact information. Gu Siyu wouldn’t offer it first, but if Huo Junxian *really* didn’t ask, she would get angry at Huo Junxian’s foolishness.
Huo Junxian’s gaze fell on Gu Siyu’s phone several times, finally saying softly, “Then I’ll go.”
Gu Siyu was very puzzled. Huo Junxian was a very meticulous person, as evident from her housekeeping, so why was she so cold and even deliberately provocative towards her?
She really wanted to do something to teach her a lesson.
After that, in the car, no one spoke, and no one flirted, which felt a bit boring. She pushed her seat back, turned on the air conditioning, and played on her phone.
It was only supposed to be a ten-minute drive back to the intersection, twenty minutes at most if there was traffic, but they drove for half an hour and still hadn’t reached the spot. Gu Siyu glanced out the window and saw the river, with several large sand barges working under the scorching sun.
The driver occasionally looked into the rearview mirror. Gu Siyu was all too familiar with that hateful gaze; she could tell what he was thinking at a glance.
The car stopped in a deserted wasteland. The river water slapped against the rocks on the shore, and the air carried a faint fishy smell, with scattered pieces of trash on the ground.
“Tell me a place name,” Gu Siyu said.
“Jiangtan Corner,” the driver said, taking his hand off the keyboard and rubbing his fingers. He looked like he was about to lecture Gu Siyu.
“Think carefully,” Gu Siyu said without even lifting her head, her fingers sliding across the screen, speaking unhurriedly. “Your ‘miss’ listens to me, so I must have something she cares about in my hand. If you make me angry, well… my temper has always been bad, and I hold a grudge.”
The consequences of her anger were quite severe.
The driver’s hand, which had been pushing the car door open, trembled. After a moment, he gritted his teeth, pulled his hand back, and gripped the steering wheel again, turning the car around and driving back. He held back a car full of harsh words, not uttering a single one.
Playing on her phone for too long made her a little carsick. Gu Siyu looked at the scenery outside; the scenery receding was quite different from when they came. She asked, “How long have you been with Huo Junxian? I heard you call her ‘miss’.”
The driver’s face was stern and looked quite fierce. She wondered if he’d been with Huo Junxian for so long that his temper was just like hers—silent at first, only speaking if Gu Siyu pushed him.
“Since Miss was in sixth grade.”
“Sixth grade… about eleven or twelve years old, so fifteen years.” Gu Siyu was a little curious. “What was she like before?”
The driver said nothing again. No matter how much she pushed, it was useless.
The driver took her back to the intersection. Gu Siyu got out of the car and bought an ice cream cone at a roadside bubble tea shop. After the luxury car drove away, Gu Siyu took a big bite of her ice cream and walked towards the building.
The place was small, but the bright bar sign illuminated the deep darkness, making it very visible. Outside the bar, some people were kissing, others were wailing, and a group of malicious individuals lurked, ready to take advantage of vulnerable people.
Gu Siyu heard a whistle at the entrance but didn’t turn her head until someone blocked her path.
A hoodlum smiled at her, wearing a black T-shirt that revealed an arm tattooed with a python swallowing a flower. This person was clearly a societal degenerate, nothing good.
“Siyu, long time no see. What have you been up to recently?”
“Busy,” Gu Siyu said.
“Busy with what? I can’t hear you sing, and my heart feels restless, sis,” the societal degenerate said.
Just as Gu Siyu was about to reply, her phone rang. The person who invited her out urged, “Siyu, when are you finally coming?”
“I’m here,” Gu Siyu said, no longer bothering with the societal degenerate. She held her phone and walked into the bar. Once inside, she let out a breath; talking to such societal degenerates always stressed her out.
So annoying.
He Xiao, somehow, got a hand-clapper. She sat amidst the crowd, swaying and clapping, saying, “We’ve almost opened a dozen beers, and you’re just arriving?”
“Traffic,” Gu Siyu made up an excuse, walked around, and sat on the sofa.
There were two girls waiting for her. The other one was named Duan Jiayang; she was a bit quieter. She took a sip of juice and asked, “What have you been doing lately?”
“Playing, working.”
“You’re working?” Duan Jiayang was surprised.
“Of course. Doesn’t a person always have to work to live? You shouldn’t just be idle either. If you don’t want to go back, find a job,” Gu Siyu said, twisting her neck, speaking very naturally.
Duan Jiayang was different from the two of them. She was a genuine rich second-generation, but with a pitiful background. Her father was a terrible person; after Duan Jiayang’s mother died, he immediately remarried, and that woman’s child was even older than Duan Jiayang.
Rumor had it that the woman was her father’s “white moonlight” from his youth. Not long after the stepmother married in, she became pregnant again at an advanced age, and they even had it checked to confirm it was a male fetus. Duan Jiayang couldn’t stand her stepmother. She had a fight with her at home, but her father wouldn’t listen to her explanation, completely infatuated and only believing her stepmother’s slanders. Duan Jiayang then ran away in a fit of anger.
Duan Jiayang used to be a spendthrift rich second-generation, hadn’t saved much money, and quickly ran out after leaving home. Today, she asked Gu Siyu to meet to borrow money.
Gu Siyu thought Duan Jiayang was just stupid. If she were Duan Jiayang, she would have turned the house into a chaotic mess. Why run away when the family was so rich? At the very least, she should have taken all the money or kicked that entire family out.
Rich kids were still too naive, lacking means. They couldn’t survive once they ran away and were particularly concerned with saving face. Why bother?
Duan Jiayang was embarrassed to speak, so she first poured Gu Siyu a glass of wine and asked, “By the way, didn’t you say you wanted to ask about someone? Who is it?”
“You Wanyue.”
Duan Jiayang thought for a moment, then shook her head. “Don’t know her.”
He Xiao worked at a pet hospital. She also shook her head. “I don’t know her either. Our pet hospital hasn’t treated anyone by that name.”
“Don’t shake your head yet, you’ve probably seen her,” Gu Siyu said. She changed her approach. “Do you know Mrs. Shao?”
“Oh, Mrs. Shao! The very beautiful one, right?” He Xiao immediately remembered. Nowadays, people are materialistic, especially in large pet hospitals like theirs. They can’t remember everyone; what leaves a deep impression is the reputation attached to a person.
He Xiao replied, “She’s a regular customer at our clinic, often brings her dog for grooming. She has a brown poodle, right?”
Gu Siyu nodded. “How’s her relationship with her husband? Have you heard any gossip?”
He Xiao was curious. “Why are you asking about this?”
“Nothing much, I just once saw her wrist and ankle injured and wondered if she was being domestically abused,” Gu Siyu said.
“I feel like her husband treats her quite well,” He Xiao recalled. “Before, when she came to our hospital, it was always her husband who picked her up. She, however, had a very short temper. Of course, one can’t judge by appearances alone.”
Saying this, He Xiao lowered her voice. “But, one time I heard them arguing, and You Wanyue cursed her husband.”
“Hmm?”
He Xiao lowered her voice. “She called her husband a castrated dog.”
Gu Siyu looked up at He Xiao in surprise. Duan Jiayang also leaned in. All three of them were curious about this.
“I’m not entirely sure about the details, but I once overheard You Wanyue on the phone saying something. The other side didn’t agree, and You Wanyue got very upset and started cursing in the hallway. There were two nurses there at the time. Anyway… she cursed without restraint, not hiding from anyone. You Wanyue told her husband to come to our pet hospital for an examination, to see if he was a castrated dog and therefore impotent.”
Gu Siyu chuckled. This was getting interesting. She then looked at Duan Jiayang. “Jiayang, how much do you know about Shao Boming?”
Duan Jiayang’s family was wealthy, and she usually interacted with powerful and influential people, so she would hear some gossip.
Duan Jiayang nodded; she actually knew a bit. “The fact that Shao Boming is impotent isn’t a secret in their circle, but no one has confirmed it. I used to think it was just men boasting.”
“I’ve met Shao Boming. When my stepmother got married and had the wedding banquet, he came once. He’s quite handsome and very capable. In his early years, the Shao family had a property dispute, and he drove out several uncles to secure his position. Oh, right, he’s a twin; he has an older sister or younger sister, but she had a rare disease and died when she was in high school. It’s quite a shame. Shao Boming also fell seriously ill around that time. I’m guessing that’s when he got his lingering illness. As for his relationship with his wife, I don’t know about that. I haven’t asked, but I’ll ask when I go back for Chinese New Year.”
Gu Siyu nodded. “Okay, thanks.”
After thinking for a moment, she asked an extra question. “Do you two know Huo Junxian?”
“Ah! Huo Junxian! Yes, we know her!” He Xiao nodded vigorously.
Gu Siyu asked, “You had to think for a while about You Wanyue, but you remember Huo Junxian so clearly?”
He Xiao curved her lips and said softly, “You’ll know when you meet Huo Junxian. She’s the most, most, most popular ‘married woman’ sister at our pet hospital.”
“Hmm?”
“Huo Junxian is incredibly beautiful and incredibly alluring.”
When “alluring” was mentioned, Duan Jiayang also smiled and pressed, “Describe her.”
He Xiao pointed at their three chests. “Big br3asts.”
“And… and… she’s also incredibly gentle. She often donates cat and dog food to our pet hospital to help stray animals. She’s probably put in over a million yuan. Every time she brings her dog for a check-up, seeing how hard we staff work, she even brings fruit and homemade cookies. She’s amazing.”
Every time Huo Junxian came, everyone was very happy, saying thank you while secretly stealing glances at her. It was like struggling between heaven and hell, always painfully thinking, *I really am just a mortal.*
“You definitely haven’t seen her,” He Xiao wrung her hands. “I really want to bury my face in her chest, I truly do.”
Gu Siyu thought to herself, *Not only have I seen her, I’m also forcing my love on her.* She nudged He Xiao’s forehead. “Don’t just sit there fantasizing.”
Huo Junxian was *her* person now. She really disliked others lusting after Huo Junxian, even her friends.
“Don’t think dirty thoughts,” Duan Jiayang handed He Xiao a glass of wine, leaning in and whispering, “Next time that Huo, Huo…”
“Huo Junxian!”
“When Huo Junxian comes, call me over to see.”
“Oh, right, Siyu, what do you want to know about Sister Huo? About her and her husband? Speaking of which, her husband is truly disgusting, he doesn’t deserve her at all… Siyu, Siyu?”
He Xiao called her name several times but couldn’t snap her out of it.
Gu Siyu bit her lip, gripping the glass with ice on the table, her thumb rubbing its texture.
He Xiao’s description earlier was spot on: Huo Junxian had substantial assets… who wouldn’t remember her?
But Huo Junxian was cold, too abstinent. Or rather, not abstinent, but this person looked dull and quiet, probably wouldn’t even know how to do it.
Gu Siyu licked her lips. She didn’t know why her fingers were trembling, but after finishing a glass of wine, she immediately understood.
Oh, perhaps she wanted to be like He Xiao and them.
Gu Siyu looked at the unfinished wine in her glass and swirled it.
Superficial, truly superficial.
But there was nothing she could do; she was just that superficial.
