The Crazy Fox Demon Devours My Heart - Chapter 23
The water prison lay in the deepest part of the demon jail, reserved for the most vicious and dangerous demons. Outside, heavily armed guards stood watch, and no one could enter or leave without a special token.
Cangya brought Qingyu to the prison. The demon guards carefully examined their tokens before allowing them inside.
The flickering candlelight seemed on the verge of extinguishing, casting dim shadows along the narrow, descending path. The walls were streaked with mold, and the deeper they went, the more oppressive the aura became.
The water prison was extremely damp. The air reeked of rot and decay, and faint roars of trapped beasts echoed from the darkness, sending shivers down the spine.
At the bottom step, Cangya stopped.
“The Young Master is inside. I’ll wait here. Your Highness, go quickly and return just as fast.”
Qingyu took the torch and stepped in. Inside, it was pitch black. She had no choice but to hold the torch up and light the oil lamps along the walls.
The moment the lights flickered on, the terrifying roars abruptly stopped, and Qingyu could finally see the true appearance of the water prison.
It was a massive deep pit, surrounded by railings made of obsidian iron. On the stone walls, two massive iron chains hung, their ends attached to a pair of long, pale hands.
Hu Yan’s hands were chained above him, suspending him from the chest down, leaving him out of the water.
His skin, soaked for so long, had turned ghostly pale.
Bright red, twisted veins almost completely covered his face, worse than the last time she saw him during a flare-up.
Just as Cangya had said, he had forcibly used his demon power to suppress the pain, only to suffer the backlash.
Qingyu stepped closer. His bl00d-red eyes immediately fixed on her.
Wet black strands of hair clung to the side of his face. Unlike she had imagined, he did not appear to be writhing in agony; he seemed surprisingly still.
Yet the slight tremor of his body and the bulging veins on his neck betrayed the unbearable pain he endured.
His crimson eyes paused for a moment upon seeing her, uncertain, and he rasped in a hoarse voice, “A…Yu?”
Qingyu crouched down, reaching through the bars toward him.
Behind him was a whip wound deep enough to expose bone. The torn skin, long soaked in water, had whitened and likely festered.
How could the Fox Clan Young Master be left without anyone treating him?
Qingyu extended her hand slowly through the bars.
She didn’t know why, but the last time she had touched him, her touch had alleviated his pain. If her touch could ease his suffering, she would grant him that relief.
Hu Yan’s crimson eyes finally cleared, confirming he was not imagining things.
He stared at her outstretched hand, hesitating, unable to believe it.
Only when Qingyu called to him did he snap out of it and cautiously reach his hand toward hers. The moment their fingers touched, he gripped her hand firmly, intertwining their fingers.
The bl00d-red tint in his eyes gradually faded, and the red veins on his face receded with their contact.
The pain washed away like a receding tide. Hu Yan tried to move closer, but the chains behind him had reached their limit, preventing even the slightest advance.
He looked at her steadily. “A Yu, you shouldn’t have come here.”
“Indeed, I shouldn’t. Then I’ll leave.”
Her purpose accomplished, Qingyu withdrew her hand and began to leave.
Hu Yan’s gaze followed her retreating figure, panic surging uncontrollably.
Suddenly, he lunged at the iron cage like a man possessed. The violently tugged chains rattled harshly, squealing with tension.
Reaching their limit, the chains jerked him back violently.
He fell into the water and immediately leapt upward again.
Furious, he kept yanking at the chains toward her indifferent back, his hands bound behind him, wrists bleeding.
Bones were visible beneath his skin; one more pull, and his entire arm might snap.
Yet he seemed oblivious to the pain, stubbornly charging upward, his gaze locked solely on the woman outside the bars.
To specifically contain these most vicious demons, the Fox Clan had constructed the water prison from the hardest obsidian iron.
They had also laid anti-demon power seals, and in thousands of years, no demon had ever escaped.
Qingyu, distracted by the movement behind her, paused and turned in surprise.
Bl00d trickled down his forehead from the violent impact, staining half his face.
What is he doing? Does he intend to get out?
The iron cage appeared impenetrably strong. How could he possibly escape?
Hu Yan rose into midair, revealing his demon form in a roar, bl00d at the corner of his mouth. His eight fox tails lashed at the iron chains. Amid the violent shaking, the unbreakable chains snapped with a resounding crash.
The freed prisoner slowly approached the iron cage, which immediately glowed with purple lightning.
Unhesitatingly, his tails struck through the electric light, crackling loudly, shattering the cage.
Qingyu watched in shock as his tails scorched the metal. He must be mad!
Before she could react, the newly freed Hu Yan pinned her against the stone wall. Fingers entwined, he pressed against her forehead, breathing heavily.
His tails coiled around her waist, and his fox ears twitched slightly.
The handsome, demonic face loomed before her, golden eyes filled entirely with her.
Thick lashes framed his gaze, and his scorching breath swept across her face, indescribably intoxicating.
Qingyu’s entire body trembled under his dominance, a feeling of being devoured by a wild beast overtaking her.
Carefully, she called out, “Hu Yan?”
He stared at her steadily. Then his head drooped, resting softly against her neck, his voice barely audible, “Don’t go.”
Qingyu gently pushed him, but he didn’t respond; his hands hung limply.
As he fainted, she wrapped her arms around his back, struggling to support him. Due to their size difference, her small, fragile body was being overwhelmed, sliding slowly downward.
“Hu Yan, wake up!”
A wet sensation hit her shoulder. She saw bl00d smeared around his mouth. At first, she thought it was just water soaking through his clothes.
The reality far exceeded her expectations. She had thought that merely easing his pain would allow them to leave, but he had insisted on breaking out of the cage!
With such a commotion, it seemed impossible for them to escape today.
Cangya, waiting outside, heard the sounds of the water prison and hurried in. The moment he entered, he saw the Young Master collapsed on the princess, seemingly unconscious.
Shards of obsidian iron littered the area, evidence that the Young Master had forcibly broken the chains and shattered the seals.
Already severely injured, his body now bore even greater damage, a pitiful sight.
Cangya froze for a moment. The Young Master in his memory was always pristine and upright, never so disheveled.
“Stop standing there! Come help!”
Cangya regained composure and lifted the Young Master’s arms, supporting him while keeping watch toward the entrance.
Even if it costs my life, I will bring the Young Master out!
The commotion in the water prison alarmed the demon guards. They rushed over, surrounding the three of them.
“Dare to raid the prison!”
