The Crazy Fox Demon Devours My Heart - Chapter 26
Fox Yan spent several days recovering in the lake courtyard. His wounds had mostly healed.
Ye Die’er and Shui He had returned to the courtyard to attend to him.
Every time Ye Die’er saw Fox Yan, she would try to strike up a conversation. Although she was always disappointed, she never gave up.
After seeing this repeated behavior, even Qingyu began to notice her intentions.
Fuyin, seeing Ye Die’er’s coquettish behavior, was irritated. “Princess, look at her — she’s clearly trying to seduce the Young Lord!”
Qingyu didn’t react much, simply replying, “Let her be.”
After all, they would be leaving soon. Whatever Die’er did had nothing to do with her.
In fact, Qingyu hoped Die’er would divert Fox Yan’s attention, so he wouldn’t pester her constantly.
Ye Die’er realized that no matter what she did, she couldn’t catch the Young Lord’s attention. Instead, his gaze always lingered on the human girl, and she grew increasingly malicious.
This woman was truly a nuisance! This time, she would make sure she was ruined.
The Young Lord would never want a woman whose purity was lost!
For the rare days of leisure, Fox Yan could spend all day with A’Yu, almost clinging to her every moment, much to Qingyu’s annoyance.
“Ah Yu, the weather is perfect today. Let’s go out for a walk.”
“No.”
Fuyin and Cangya, busy shelling lotus seeds nearby, both looked up in surprise.
They hadn’t been outside for days and were itching to get some fresh air.
Fuyin held the shelled seeds in her hands. “Princess, do you want some?”
“I saw a huge fruit tree outside earlier, the fruits are big and red — surely tastier than lotus seeds. Let’s go pick some!”
It was an indirect invitation to Qingyu to go out.
Cangya joined in, “Where is it? I’ll pick some for you. I’m great at climbing trees!”
Qingyu put down her embroidery, turned to the two expectant faces, and smiled. “Then let’s go for a walk.”
The group arrived at an oasis, with Fox Yan and Qingyu walking ahead and Cangya and Fuyin following behind.
Fuyin pointed to a nearby tree, which indeed bore plump, red fruits.
Cangya’s brows lifted as he noticed the tree, suppressing a grin. He quickly climbed up and picked a few fruits, tossing them to Fuyin.
Fuyin, salivating at the sight, wiped her mouth with her sleeve and bit into one.
The sour taste made her face scrunch up. “Yuck! So sour!”
Cangya laughed heartily at her reaction.
Realizing Cangya had known the fruit was inedible, Fuyin chased after him to scold him.
Even Qingyu couldn’t help but laugh, her bright smile spreading warmth like a gentle spring breeze.
A rustling at her feet drew her attention. A small, chubby child, around three or four years old, clung to her leg, softly calling, “Sister?”
Seeing this, Fox Yan grabbed the child by the collar. The child struggled, stammering, “Put…put me down! Sister, save me!”
Qingyu picked him up; he was heavy and limp.
Pointing a drool-covered finger at Fox Yan, the child said, “Sister, this big brother is bad!”
Fox Yan pinched the child’s chubby face. “Dare to call me bad? Should I eat you?”
Terrified, the child immediately cried, wriggling free from Qingyu’s arms, holding her hand as he ran ahead.
Qingyu followed, casting a playful glance at Fox Yan.
The child led Qingyu to a nearby tribe, with Fuyin and Cangya following.
“What a cute little one!” Fuyin exclaimed, unable to resist stroking the round cheeks.
The child frowned and covered his face with his small hands.
Noticing Fox Yan following behind, the child anxiously said, “Sister, come in quickly! That bad big brother is coming!”
The guards at the gate saw Fox Yan and respectfully bowed. “Greetings, Young Lord!”
The child looked at him skeptically. “Young Lord? Are you the Young Lord my mother spoke of?”
Fox Yan raised an eyebrow. “Why? Don’t I look like him?”
The child shook his head. “No.”
“Oh? Then tell me what the Young Lord should look like.”
The child thought for a moment, speaking in a high, soft voice: “Mother says the Young Lord is the best person in the world, our hero. Thanks to him, we live in peace now. He definitely wouldn’t be like you — fierce, wanting to eat people!”
Fox Yan raised his brow. Fierce and wanting to eat people?
Qingyu chuckled. Fox Yan glanced at her, a deeper smile tugging at his lips. Well, fierce and terrifying he could be.
The child led Qingyu’s group around the tribe.
Fuyin was astonished. “Princess, this demon tribe looks nothing like we imagined — it’s almost like a city.”
Cangya’s gaze lingered on Fuyin’s large, round eyes.
“Previously, the demon realm was chaotic. Strong demons oppressed the weak, and lower demons struggled to survive.”
Hearing this, Qingyu became genuinely interested. “How did it develop into this stable state?”
“It was the Young Lord who quelled the chaos alone. He divided the demon realm into five regions, each living in their respective territories. That’s why the realm is now so orderly.”
“The place we are in is just one tribe, inhabited by gentle, peace-loving demons, so it looks harmonious.”
Fuyin: “The Young Lord is amazing!”
Fox Yan looked at Qingyu. “Ah Yu, if you’re interested, I’ll take you to visit the other tribes one day.”
Qingyu gazed into the distance, her expression faint, shaking her head — perhaps there would be no such day.
During their brief stop, demons gradually gathered along the roadside.
“It’s the Young Lord! The Young Lord has come!”
“Quick, everyone! The Young Lord is here!”
They placed their hands over their hearts, showing the highest respect to Fox Yan.
The child mimicked the gestures for fun.
Suddenly, a long-eared rabbit spirit dashed out, shouting at the child, “Sanwa! You sneaked out again! I’ll teach you a lesson today!”
Sanwa, seeing his mother angry, hid behind Qingyu.
Cangya blocked the rabbit spirit, questioning, “Who is this child to you?”
Sanwa quickly ran out, leaping into the rabbit spirit’s arms. “She’s my mother!”
The rabbit spirit hugged Sanwa tightly. Her previously angry heart softened. “How many times have I told you not to run off? It’s dangerous outside!”
Sanwa nodded, pointing at Qingyu. “I went out today because I saw Sister. Last time, she saved me.”
The rabbit spirit looked at the clear-eyed girl in front of her, grateful. “You saved my Sanwa. You’re a benefactor. If you ever need anything, just ask.”
Qingyu noticed the resemblance between Sanwa and his mother. She thought, “You were the little rabbit from before?”
Sanwa nodded eagerly, jumping down from her mother’s arms. “It’s me! Sister, remember? You saved me from the giant eagle last time!”
“And when the poisonous snakes surrounded you, you protected me, letting me hide behind you.”
Qingyu had thought the little rabbit was just an ordinary creature, but it was actually a demon.
Her warm expression faded slightly, a trace of cold appearing.
Sanwa, sensing this, timidly asked, “Sister? Did Sanwa do something wrong?”
The rabbit spirit also grew tense. “Did my Sanwa cause trouble, miss?”
Qingyu looked into Sanwa’s pure, innocent eyes, indistinguishable from any child’s, and lifted her into her arms. “Sanwa did nothing wrong. The fault lies with humans.”
Earlier, Qingyu had fallen into delusion, hating all demons. Now, seeing many in the demon realm, she understood that just as humans have good and bad, demons also have good and bad. A pure and innocent demon like Sanwa is in no way at fault.
Ultimately, the incident years ago was the fault of that human emperor.
Seeing the gentle, kind sister return, Sanwa rubbed against Qingyu’s cheek affectionately.
Fox Yan tugged slightly at Sanwa’s pigtails, glancing at Qingyu with a trace of silent grievance in his eyes.
One dark, one red; one strikingly beautiful, the other refined and elegant — a perfectly matched pair. Yet in one’s eyes is deep affection, while the other’s eyes show no emotion.
