The Crazy Fox Demon Devours My Heart - Chapter 35
Hu Yan pulled Qingyu into his arms and, with a swift motion, blocked the poisoned needle.
The needle pierced back through Ye Die’er’s palm along its original path.
The skin on her hand instantly blackened. Ye Die’er clutched it in pain, frantically searching her sleeves. She found a pill and quickly swallowed it.
Hu Yan glared at her, his eyes filled with murderous intent, ready to kill her on the spot.
“Grandma, save me!”
Ye Die’er scrambled toward the Elder Lady for protection.
The Elder Lady had naturally seen Ye Die’er’s small move earlier. Though displeased, she did not want Hu Yan to kill her personally and risk creating gossip. She spoke to stop him.
“Yan’er, even if Die’er is at fault, you cannot kill her here. Hand her over to me for punishment instead.”
Hu Yan clenched his teeth, struggling to contain his rage.
“Grandma, do you know what she did? She was the one who poisoned Qingyu with the Spring Silkworm toxin that day!”
The Elder Lady’s expression instantly turned cold.
“Is there evidence of this?”
Ye Die’er immediately fell to her knees, tears streaming.
“It’s absolutely not true! Grandma, I’m innocent!”
“Young Master says it was you who poisoned her. Do you have any proof?”
Hu Yan stared at her coldly.
“You said you would help me detoxify, but I never mentioned being poisoned. Yet you were certain I was, and you dare claim you didn’t administer it?”
Qingyu thought carefully and found Ye Die’er’s behavior that day suspicious. At first, even she didn’t know what kind of poison she had. Yet Ye Die’er approached her as if she understood it perfectly—offering her pillow and presence. How could she have known that detoxifying it required yin-yang interaction?
From this perspective, Ye Die’er was the prime suspect.
But all of this was speculation; there was no concrete evidence linking her to the poisoning.
“Young Master, you must know, accusations without evidence are slander.”
Confident there was no proof against her, Ye Die’er refused to admit anything.
Hu Yan’s expression turned icy, murderous intent bubbling in his eyes.
Qingyu pulled him back.
Without evidence, they truly could not do anything. If Hu Yan acted impulsively and killed her, it would only cause public scandal.
Understanding Qingyu’s meaning, Hu Yan restrained his anger, letting her hold him. He appeared obedient and calm.
The Elder Lady also understood much of the situation, examining the kneeling Ye Die’er.
“I have warned you not to overstep, yet you dared poison others and plot harm. Did you ever respect me?”
Ye Die’er’s face was pale and tear-streaked.
“Grandma, please believe me! I truly didn’t!”
The Elder Lady was tired of hearing her excuses.
“Take her to the dungeon. She will await further interrogation.”
After Ye Die’er was dragged away, the Elder Lady observed Hu Yan and Qingyu’s interaction. Though resigned, there was nothing she could do.
At this point, the tail Hu Yan had lost could never be restored. The only option was to allow Qingyu to remain by his side to ease his suffering.
Once the Elder Lady left, Qingyu looked at Hu Yan, hesitating to speak.
“Mo Mo, I have something to tell you.”
Hu Yan faced away from her, remaining still.
Noticing something was wrong, Qingyu pulled him to face her.
She saw his pale, bl00d-stained chest and realized how grave his condition was.
Swallowing the metallic taste in his mouth, Hu Yan’s voice was soft.
“What did you want to say, Qingyu?”
He had just suffered a grave injury and forced himself to endure the Elder Lady’s presence—he couldn’t last much longer.
Qingyu found herself unable to speak.
“Nothing. I’ll help you back to rest first.”
That night, news suddenly arrived from the Demon Prison: Ye Die’er had died violently.
Apparently, her death was gruesome; almost every inch of her body was injured.
Cangya leapt from the roof, landing steadily before reporting to Hu Yan.
“Young Master, Ye Die’er is dead.”
“Did she reveal who ordered her?”
“No. I tried every method of interrogation, and just as she was about to reveal the mastermind, she coughed up black bl00d and died. It seems someone poisoned her.”
“Continue investigating. See who else visited the dungeon today.”
The Spring Silkworm toxin is a forbidden drug, extremely rare. Ye Die’er alone could not have obtained it; there must have been a mastermind behind her. Perhaps it was connected to previous assassination attempts.
“Yes, Young Master.”
Cangya obeyed and quickly vanished.
At the same time, the Elder Lady also received news of Ye Die’er’s violent death.
Her beads did not stop moving in her hands as she casually said, “Dead is dead. She couldn’t stay anyway.”
She knew too much. The news of Hu Yan’s injury and the permanent loss of his ninth tail must not spread. If the other restless elder demons learned of it, they might devise mischief.
——
The room’s door suddenly knocked. Hu Yan composed himself and opened it.
Qingyu peeked in but didn’t step inside.
“Why have you called me here?”
Seeing her wary stance, Hu Yan teased, “Qingyu, why not come in? Afraid I’ll eat you?”
Qingyu choked on the words.
Although she now knew he was Mo Mo, the previous two incidents had left her cautious.
When she finally entered, Hu Yan sat at the desk, patting the seat beside him for her to sit.
A towering pile of books covered the desk. Qingyu could not immediately tell what he intended.
She walked over and sat down.
Hu Yan looked at her.
“After your fox tail was refined, have you felt anything unusual in your body?”
Qingyu pinched her arm and fist.
“I feel stronger, as if there’s an endless supply of energy within me.”
Hu Yan smiled in satisfaction.
“That’s because the refined tail turned into spiritual energy, spread throughout your body for you to control.”
“For me to control?”
“Yes, but first, you must read all of these books.”
He had carefully chosen these texts to suit a human woman’s cultivation. They were perfect for Qingyu.
“So many!”
Qingyu stared at the pile, feeling overwhelmed after not reading in so long.
Hu Yan picked up one book and handed it to her.
“Don’t rush. Take your time. I will be here to guide you as you build your foundation.”
“Once I’m ready, I can start cultivating stronger techniques?”
Hu Yan’s eyes softened with affection.
“By then, not even half of the demon realm will be your match.”
“So powerful?”
Qingyu’s eyes sparkled.
Hu Yan leaned closer, his gaze filled entirely with her reflection.
“When you’re stronger, Qingyu… you must protect me.”
Qingyu’s heart fluttered.
If what he said were true, she could finally protect the ones she cared for. She could bring her nanny and Fu Yin and live anywhere without fear of oppression.
She could protect them, settle in a place with clear mountains and flowing water, buy a small house with a courtyard, and raise a big dog and a little cat.
A beautiful life seemed within reach.
Qingyu took the book and immediately began studying.
Over several days, she studied diligently, with Hu Yan patiently guiding her.
Qingyu’s innate talent was extraordinary; she grasped concepts immediately and progressed rapidly.
Demons rarely use weapons; the stronger they are, the less they need them. They themselves are deadly instruments.
Qingyu lacked a robust physique, so Hu Yan gave her a soft sword for protection.
Its blade was light, flexible, and could fold perfectly when not in use.
The sword was made of a rare material—icy and crystalline. Like eternal ice, it froze an enemy’s bl00d on contact, leaving their body rigid and immobile.
It was a sword combining offense and defense.
Qingyu named it Broken Heart.
