Chapter 12: Where Did You Go? You’re Still Not Back
Upon meeting that meaningful gaze, Jiang Chilou was slightly stunned for a moment. After a brief pause, she managed to smile, pursing her lips under the scrutiny of that look: “No.”
“I was just asking.”
“Because it looks very difficult. I feel like you need very strong core strength to do it.”
“You…” Jiang Chilou glanced at Gu Wan, and the rest of her words suddenly caught in her throat.
Her gaze was fixed on Gu Wan’s face.
Jiang Chilou hadn’t looked closely before, but only now did she realize that after a period of exercise, Gu Wan’s fair, jade-like face was slowly flushed.
This appearance made her features even more radiant and stunning.
Jiang Chilou couldn’t help but lose herself in thought.
Gu Wan noticed her abrupt silence and asked: “What is it?”
Jiang Chilou snapped back. She looked at Gu Wan’s face, a wide smile suddenly breaking out: “What if I said I did want to play?”
Gu Wan froze, seemingly not expecting her to say that, and was momentarily speechless.
A moment later, she smiled: “Then keep wishing.”
“I need to continue my workout, so I won’t disturb you.” Gu Wan finished speaking and walked straight toward the other gym equipment.
Jiang Chilou: …
So she’s the one who can’t take the challenge.
She put on such a good show earlier, but when it comes to this, she’s like a paper tiger.
Jiang Chilou and Gu Wan stayed in the gym for a while longer, finally leaving close to eight o’clock.
Jiang Chilou watched Gu Wan wash her face, apply a face mask, and sit on a stool to read financial reports.
She couldn’t help but sigh with emotion: Gu Wan’s life is truly fulfilling.
Jiang Chilou took a bite of an apple and looked down to search for small games on WeChat. Before long, she found one she was interested in. She tapped into it, deliberately lowering the volume before starting the game to avoid disturbing Gu Wan.
One person reading financial reports, one person playing a small game. They appeared surprisingly harmonious in the quiet environment.
After about ten minutes, Jiang Chilou finished her fifth round of the game, and Gu Wan also put down the financial report and removed the face mask.
Jiang Chilou noticed her standing up and unconsciously asked: “Where are you going?”
Gu Wan lowered her eyes: “To shower.”
“Oh,” Jiang Chilou hummed: “You go ahead.”
With that, she turned her attention back to her game, though this time she turned up the volume.
Gu Wan glanced at the person adjusting the game volume, paused slightly, and then slowly turned and went upstairs.
When she came back downstairs, clean and refreshed from her shower, she found Jiang Chilou still playing the game, but in a different posture.
She was leaning against the back of the chair, her head tilted slightly upward, holding her phone high.
Although she was engrossed in the game, the moment Gu Wan came down, Jiang Chilou quickly shifted her attention from the game to her.
“Going out now?” Jiang Chilou looked at the freshly tidied Gu Wan.
Gu Wan hummed, and then saw the other person stand up and volunteer: “I’ll see you out.”
“Don’t…” Gu Wan’s words were cut short when Jiang Chilou continued: “After I see you off, I plan to walk around the courtyard outside.”
The last time she had tea in the pavilion, she saw a small garden in the courtyard. She had planned to stroll there after her tea, but ended up having to deliver lunch to Gu Wan, so she missed it.
The sun wasn’t too strong right now, making it the perfect time for a walk outside.
Hearing this, Gu Wan paused. Her words, intended as a refusal, changed to: “That’s fine too.”
Seeing Gu Wan agree, Jiang Chilou smiled and quickly walked beside Gu Wan. Up close, she could faintly smell the fragrance of her hair…
The two walked side by side outside. The breeze of the early morning blew over, accidentally lifting a strand of Jiang Chilou’s bangs, and the waterproof gauze patch on her forehead was momentarily visible.
Noticing this, Gu Wan’s gaze lingered for a moment. She finally remembered something and spoke: “Doctor Song is coming today to remove your gauze. Do you remember?”
Jiang Chilou recalled for a moment, then nodded: “I remember.”
“Around what time will she arrive?”
“Around ten o’clock. Butler Lin will inform you beforehand. You just need to wait in the living room, and she will bring Doctor Song over.”
Hearing this, Jiang Chilou couldn’t help but curve her eyes and smiled: “Gu Wan, I noticed something.”
Gu Wan glanced at her: “What is it?”
“You’re very thoughtful.” No matter the situation or the person, all matters seem to be handled extremely well.
Even though their marriage was one of convenience, regardless of their actual feelings or what happened behind the scenes, Gu Wan’s outward professionalism was always impeccable.
Gu Wan smiled faintly at the comment but remained silent.
Before long, the two had reached Gu Wan’s car. Jiang Chilou waved to Gu Wan: “Bye-bye, see you tonight.”
“See you tonight.”
After watching Gu Wan leave, Jiang Chilou turned and walked toward the small garden.
Halfway there, her phone chimed with a message. She opened it and saw it was from the manager of one of the renovation companies she had contacted earlier.
[Hello, just confirming with you: is it alright for us to arrive at your coffee shop before 3:30 PM this afternoon?]
Jiang Chilou quickly replied: “Yes.”
On the other side.
At the Gu Group, as soon as Gu Wan arrived at her office, she instructed Secretary Li: “Contact Gu Shiyao and have her send you Yuanxi Media’s documentation, including recent IP investments and corresponding profit and loss statements. Also, look into Yuanxi Media… Try to get all this information to me before the end of the morning workday.”
Secretary Li, who was assigned a task first thing in the morning, gave a professional smile: “Yes, CEO Gu.”
By sunset that day, when Gu Wan returned home from work, for the first time, she didn’t see Jiang Chilou’s figure in the house.
Jiang Chilou was the one who had proposed seeing each other that evening, yet she was nowhere to be seen when Gu Wan returned.
She narrowed her eyes slightly and asked Butler Lin nearby: “Where is Jiang Chilou?”
Butler Lin slightly bowed her head: “Madam went to the coffee shop this afternoon. She said she had an appointment with a designer to discuss the renovation plan, so she hasn’t returned yet.”
Gu Wan’s brow furrowed: “How long has she been out?”
“She left at three o’clock. It’s been about three hours now.”
“Alright, I understand.”
Gu Wan lowered her eyes. She rubbed her fingertips together for a while, then opened WeChat.
Even though she already knew Jiang Chilou had gone to the coffee shop today, she still sent her a message:
“Where did you go? You’re still not back.”
The message was sent and quickly received a reply.
Jiang Chilou: [I scheduled a meeting with a renovation designer at the coffee shop this afternoon to discuss the design plan.]
Gu Wan’s eyes lowered, her thumb lightly brushing over Jiang Chilou’s message.
It was just as Butler Lin had said.
