The Crybaby Alpha is Actually Really Cool - Chapter 1
The spring morning sunlight was soft and moving, warm and cozy.
At seven o’clock, summoned by the pleasant piano music, Ruan Qingyao slowly opened his eyes. He yawned, a tear welling up in the corner of his eye. His amber-colored peach blossom eyes, under the sunlight, seemed to be diffused with water vapor, hazy and beautiful.
As he got up, the pure white thin quilt slowly slid down, revealing his exquisite body.
The first thing Ruan Qingyao did after getting out of bed was to look in the mirror. There was a full-length mirror next to the bed. It reflected his exceptionally beautiful face. His soft, flaxen short hair just reached his shoulders. Messy stray strands floated across his full forehead. Below his high, slightly upturned nose were round, adorable pouting lips, which looked as though they were cooing even when doing nothing.
After indulging in his own stunning beauty for a while, Ruan Qingyao finally looked at his body. His pouting lips quickly pursed in dissatisfaction, and his beautiful peach blossom eyes became misty with tears.
His body was very slender, even thin. If it weren’t for a thin layer of muscle holding it up, he might have looked like skin and bones. For a typical Alpha, he would have needed to eat and drink robustly to build up his body.
However, the body’s owner was Ruan Qingyao. He looked at himself in the mirror and counted the muscle blocks on his abdomen: one block, two blocks… six blocks.
Wuwuwu (a soft crying sound), the two lower abs were only outlines a few days ago.
Touching his arms and thighs again, although his skin was still soft and smooth, they became rock hard when he flexed. The mist in Ruan Qingyao’s eyes directly condensed into tears and fell.
Damn Alpha genes, give him back his soft, squishy body!
People in the Interstellar era have three secondary genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. This gender manifests at the age of eighteen and is called differentiation.
Hospitals conduct genetic testing on newborns to determine their future differentiation direction, making it convenient for parents to nurture their children according to their secondary gender.
Ruan Qingyao was tested and determined to be an Omega at birth. His growth before the age of eighteen fully matched the characteristics of an Omega. His personality seemed well-behaved and soft, and his figure was small and lovely.
Until last year, when he differentiated into an Alpha.
Everyone thought there had been a mistake at the time, but after changing and retesting at every testing facility on the Imperial Star, Ruan Qingyao was an Alpha.
No matter how incredible and unbelievable, the result was a foregone conclusion and could not be changed. He could only accept it while weeping piteously.
Although he accepted the fact, Ruan Qingyao was still very distressed.
First, his height. A year ago, he was 1.65 meters, a height perfectly suited for being held in someone’s arms. Now he is 1.9 meters; it’s uncomfortable to try and throw himself into the arms of his parents and brothers to coo.
Second, his body. Omegas should be pale, slender, delicate, and soft. But ever since he differentiated into an Alpha, dieting couldn’t stop the muscles from growing rapidly. His original soft, little tummy was so comfortable to rua (stroke/pet); now he has six-pack abs, which he can’t pinch hard even if he tries. Fortunately, it’s not noticeable when he wears loose clothing, otherwise, Ruan Qingyao would seriously consider surgery.
After being depressed in front of the mirror for a while, Ruan Qingyao sniffed his red nose and went to the bathroom to wash up. He finished his grooming and left the bedroom; it was already nine in the morning.
His loose hair was tied into a small bun on top of his head, fastened with an adorable pink bunny hair clip. He wore a matching star-shaped diamond stud earring in his right ear, a look that was cute yet carried a hint of sexiness.
The white shirt he wore was completely wrinkle-free. The waist-cinching design highlighted his slender waist. Below his light blue plaid trousers were long, straight, and slim legs.
Ruan Qingyao descended the stairs to the dining room for breakfast with an elegant gait. His breakfast consisted of a cup of warm milk, half a fried egg, and one-third of a tube of nutrient solution. The nutrient solution was bland but could provide all the substances the human body needed without causing weight gain like regular food.
Ruan Qingyao’s usual breakfast used to be only milk and a fried egg, but after differentiating into an Alpha, he consumed his old diet and ended up fainting from malnutrition and being sent to the hospital. He didn’t want to eat more food to avoid getting fat and muscular, yet he couldn’t skip eating. Luckily, there was the nutrient solution, a “weight-loss holy product.”
Today was Saturday, and Ruan Qingyao had arranged to go shopping with his best friend, Song Xiaotian. Just as he finished breakfast and rinsed his mouth, Song’s family’s aircraft arrived. From afar, they could hear Song Xiaotian’s voice: “Yaoyao~ I miss you so much~”
After differentiating at eighteen, Alphas must serve five years in the Military Tower, while Omegas must attend a designated school, with the first year being fully enclosed management.
Although Ruan Qingyao unexpectedly differentiated into an Alpha, his good friend Song Xiaotian successfully differentiated into an Omega. The two hadn’t seen each other for almost a year.
“I miss Tiantian very much too~” Ruan Qingyao opened his arms and let Song Xiaotian rush into a full embrace.
Song Xiaotian curiously stroked his arm and touched his abs: “The texture is really nice. Let your sister enjoy it first. That little b1tch Gao Qian keeps showing off her Alpha cousin’s figure to me. He’s far worse than our Yaoyao.”
Young people are always curious about the opposite s3x, but peers who differentiate immediately go to serve in the Military Tower for five years. Omegas can only come into contact with their peers after the age of twenty-three.
Even though he didn’t like his own body, the beautiful and kind-hearted Ruan Qingyao would satisfy his best friend’s small request, even obediently and proactively lifting his shirt hem to show Song Xiaotian his abs.
Song Ling, who was being ignored, couldn’t stand it anymore: “There’s a distinction between AO, Song Xiaotian, can you be more reserved!”
“Hello, Brother Song,” Ruan Qingyao greeted Song Ling while hurriedly fixing his clothes. His pale face was flushed red with shyness.
He didn’t have gender dysphoria; he clearly knew he was now an Alpha, but his body retained the shyness and timidness he felt when facing an Alpha.
Song Xiaotian, on the other hand, made a face: “It has nothing to do with you.”
Song Ling glared at Song Xiaotian and greeted Ruan Qingyao: “Hello, A Yao. Xiaotian asked me to help you carry things.”
Song Xiaotian interjected: “That’s all he’s good for.”
“How did Brother Song come back?” Ruan Qingyao was very curious. Song Ling was older than them and entered the Military Tower two years ago. Logically, he shouldn’t be able to come home halfway through.
Song Ling scratched his head, also confused himself: “I came with the captain. The mission location was here, but after we arrived, they gave us free time, so I went home and was caught by Xiaotian.”
Song Xiaotian hmphed in dissatisfaction: “Then go now. I wonder who’s eyes lit up like light bulbs when he heard I was going to play with Yaoyao.”
Song Ling glared at Song Xiaotian again and gave Ruan Qingyao an embarrassed smile. No matter where he was, Ruan Qingyao was the brightest person in the crowd: he was well-behaved and gentle, considerate, and very pretty. Who wouldn’t like an Omega like that?
When Song Ling heard the news that Ruan Qingyao had differentiated into an Alpha, he was saddened. He thought his hopes were dashed, but upon seeing him in person, Song Ling realized he still liked him.
AA (Alpha-Alpha) relationships are not uncommon these days.
Intelligent as Ruan Qingyao was, he had naturally noticed his best friend’s brother’s feelings for him long ago. But he had no such intentions and felt that this small emotion would definitely fade with time. At this moment, he pretended not to hear and pulled Song Xiaotian to chat.
For a while, the aircraft was filled with Song Xiaotian’s chattering voice, while Song Ling silently shrank in the corner.
They reached the shopping mall before ten o’clock. By eleven o’clock, Ruan Qingyao and Song Xiaotian had finished their “battle.” It wasn’t because they were exhausted or didn’t want to shop anymore, but because the tool-man responsible for carrying the bags couldn’t take it anymore.
Song Ling’s arms were completely covered with the thin ropes of shopping bags, and several were also hanging from his neck.
Song Ling said: “You two go order food. I’ll go back to the aircraft and put these down first.”
Ruan Qingyao: “Thank you for your hard work, Brother Song.”
Song Xiaotian sighed (an exaggerated sigh sound): “What’s hard about him? It’s just this much stuff. We still have three floors we haven’t visited! It’s all his fault for having short arms. Let’s go, let’s go to that new seafood restaurant you mentioned. I’ve been craving it for ages.”
Song Ling: This little sister is hopeless…
With Song Ling gone, Song Xiaotian and Ruan Qingyao could finally exchange some best-friend secrets.
Song Xiaotian was very worried: “Judging by the calendar, the Military Tower should be sending people again soon. What are you going to do?”
Ruan Qingyao was supposed to enter the Military Tower last year, but when he learned the detailed information about the heavy and cruel military training and the terrifying mortality rate, Ruan Qingyao immediately fainted and was sent to the ICU. He lay there for half a month, missing the entry time, which was how he avoided entering the Military Tower.
The moment he fainted was a genuine physiological reaction, but everything afterward was feigning illness, because he didn’t want to enter the Military Tower.
The current societal positioning of Omegas is that of gentle, weak dependents who are pampered. Ruan Qingyao had been instilled with similar concepts for eighteen years; it was fundamentally impossible to ask him to pick up a weapon and go to the battlefield suddenly.
In the past year, Ruan Qingyao had completed the transformation of his self-perception, but he still didn’t want to enter the Military Tower. He didn’t want the battlefield life where his head was constantly on the line.
He only wanted to pursue his music dream while still young, find a suitable partner when he reached the age to marry, raise one or two children, and live a leisurely life.
Facing Song Xiaotian’s worries, Ruan Qingyao gave a mischievous smile, took a piece of paper from his bag, and handed it to Song Xiaotian.
“The law states that only those with serious illnesses like heart disease, asthma, or Level 1 disability can be exempted from military service,” Ruan Qingyao said casually. “Disability is impossible, but heart disease… it’s possible to have a heart disease.”
Song Xiaotian looked over the diagnosis certificate in his hand, left and right, and couldn’t see any trace of forgery. Even scanning the code with his optical computer showed it was legitimate. “You are too amazing.”
Having grown up together, Song Xiaotian naturally knew Ruan Qingyao was perfectly healthy.
“It is real. It cost one million Star Coins,” Ruan Qingyao whispered softly. “Fortunately, my third sister-in-law has some connections with the hospital, and also because the war situation isn’t urgent right now, so they aren’t checking too strictly.”
Song Xiaotian breathed a sigh of relief. He could hardly imagine how the delicate and fastidious Yaoyao would survive in the Military Tower, which still practiced eight-person collective dormitories.
“That’s good. This way you’ll have plenty of time to study music, unlike me, who still has to take those boring home economics and nursing classes…”
Song Xiaotian turned around and started envying Ruan Qingyao’s free and easy life again.
The two enjoyed a lovely seafood feast, then went to a milk tea cafe to play with cats, dogs, and hamsters to help with digestion. The afternoon quickly passed, and before they knew it, the sky began to darken.
The aircraft dropped Ruan Qingyao and Song Xiaotian off at the Ruan family’s door. Since they hadn’t seen each other for so long, they naturally planned to stay together for a few days.
As soon as they approached the villa door, Ruan Qingyao felt a trace of an unusual atmosphere.
In the living room, Father Ruan and Mother Ruan were sitting on the long sofa. On the single sofa next to them sat a person wearing a military uniform, exuding a bloodthirsty, murderous aura. Another person, who looked quite young, stood behind him.
That person heard the commotion and glanced over. Ruan Qingyao only felt his scalp tingle and a chill run down his spine. His whole body tensed up, followed by the Alpha gene’s sense of defiance—an urge to defeat the powerful enemy. However, this was well-hidden by Ruan Qingyao; others only perceived him as being stunned with fear.
Mother Ruan saw this and hurried over to stroke his back. “Yaoyao, are you okay?”
At the same time, she helped him walk towards the sofa and said to Song Xiaotian: “Xiaotian, you go to Yaoyao’s room and rest for a while.”
Song Xiaotian was also badly scared and even forgot to say hello, rushing past the living room and flying upstairs.
Sitting on the sofa, flanked by his father and mother, surrounded by their scents, Ruan Qingyao felt very secure.
Father Ruan said: “General Mo, as you can see, Yaoyao is not well. Going to the battlefield would be a death sentence.”
That person was precisely Mo Buyu, the Tower Lord of the First Military Tower, whose purpose was to bring Ruan Qingyao into the Military Tower.
Hearing this, Ruan Qingyao unhurriedly took out his diagnosis certificate and handed it to Father Ruan, who then passed it to Mo Buyu.
Mo Buyu waved his hand and looked at Ruan Qingyao with a half-smile.
Ruan Qingyao immediately sensed trouble. Immediately after, he heard his own voice coming from Mo Buyu’s optical computer, sweet, and carrying a hint of smugness: “It is real. It cost one million Star Coins.”
