- Chapter 5 - Xiao Yi Visits a Brothel
After eating and drinking her fill, Xiao Yi felt drowsy and decided to return to the city. Her original plan was to sneak back into the General’s Estate and take a nap in her courtyard.
But then she remembered she hadn’t properly knelt in the ancestral hall. Returning now would only bring trouble and ruin her chances of resting peacefully. As she pondered this, she spotted the Welcome Spring Pavilion nearby and grinned mischievously.
Who would ever suspect Xiao Yi of visiting a brothel? she thought. This is the perfect place for a good night’s sleep!
Xiao Yi swaggered toward the Welcome Spring Pavilion. As soon as she stepped inside, the Madam blocked her path. “Little girl, hurry home! This isn’t a place for someone like you,” the Madam said, shooing her away.
Xiao Yi smirked insolently. “Madam, do you know who I am? I’m Xiao Yi, Eldest Miss Xiao of General Xiao’s Estate. If you dare stop me, I’ll tear down your Welcome Spring Pavilion!”
The Madam stared in shock at the beautiful young woman before her. She never imagined the legendary “Tyrant Xiao” would be such a stunning beauty.
“How can you prove you’re Xiao Yi?” the Madam asked skeptically. This girl hardly seemed like the notorious tyrant from the rumors.
“Oh~, do I really need to prove it?” Xiao Yi said, reaching out to press her hand directly against the Madam’s chest. The Madam’s face flushed crimson as she quickly dodged away. Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Yi slapped the Madam’s backside, then looked at her hand, clicking her tongue twice. “Tsk, tsk, so soft!”
Seeing the Madam about to explode, Xiao Yi pulled several silver notes from her sleeve and stuffed them into the Madam’s arms. “This Miss will stay for one night. I’ll add more if it’s not enough.”
She strode inside as she spoke. The Madam stared at the silver notes in her arms, gritting her teeth. Who would turn down money? Unless they’re brain-damaged!
Her face instantly transformed into a fawning smile as she scurried after Xiao Yi. “Eldest Miss Xiao, please proceed to the second floor.”
Xiao Yi paid no attention, striding purposefully up the stairs to the second floor.
The Madam watched Xiao Yi like she was watching a walking pile of silver. Rumor had it that Tyrant Xiao had a taste for both men and women. Why not send her a few handsome men and pretty girls to play with?
With that thought, she immediately put her plan into action.
When Xiao Yi returned to her room, intending to get a good night’s sleep, she found two handsome men and two beautiful women waiting for her outside the door.
Her eyes widened instantly. “Well, your boss certainly knows how to run a business!”
“Come here, little darling, sit here!” Xiao Yi enthusiastically beckoned the two beautiful women to sit on one side, then gestured to the men on the other. “Come on, how could we neglect such beauties? You two sit over here!”
She finally understood why people were so fond of brothels. This place was practically a paradise of hedonism, a place where one could lose oneself in pleasure. How could anyone not love it? She had simply been ignorant of its allure until now!
Xiao Yi embraced the women on either side, drinking with them until all four beauties collapsed in a drunken stupor. She herself collapsed onto the bed and fell into a deep, drunken sleep.
Meanwhile, at the Grand Tutor’s Estate, Gu Zhirou watched her mother, who sat beside her, chattering incessantly. Gu Zhirou was on the verge of losing her mind with anxiety.
If she remembered correctly, Ayi had been caught red-handed visiting the Fragrant Welcome Pavilion, the most notorious brothel in the capital. This scandal had caused Ayi’s reputation to plummet overnight.
She needed to warn Ayi immediately. This incident would have devastating consequences for her, so she had to help Ayi avoid it. She had to save Ayi!
But her mother kept nagging incessantly. “Aiya, Mother, I feel dizzy.”
Madam Gu rushed over to check on her. “Someone, fetch the doctor immediately! Rou’er, what’s wrong? Let Mother see—are you feeling unwell again?”
Gu Zhirou quickly stopped her. “It’s nothing, Mother. Just a little dizzy. I’ll be fine after a nap. Don’t worry! There’s no need for a doctor. Rou’er isn’t as fragile as she used to be!”
“Are you sure you’re alright?” Madam Gu pressed.
“Absolutely fine, Mother. I’ll just go lie down for a while.” Gu Zhirou rubbed her temples, feigning extreme dizziness.
“Alright, alright, go rest. Xiao Qing, take good care of your Miss. If anything feels off, tell me immediately!”
“Yes, Madam!”
After Xiao Qing helped Gu Zhirou back to her room, she said, “Miss, you should lie down and rest. A little sleep might help with your dizziness.”
“Xiao Qing, I want to go to the street to buy some medicine. I don’t really trust the family physician. Will you come with me?” Gu Zhirou asked. “Once I take the medicine, I’ll feel much better. I don’t want to tell Mother and Father—they’d worry too much. Please come with me!”
“Miss, are you sure you’re alright?” Xiao Qing knew Gu Zhirou’s filial piety, but she was also concerned that her mistress’s health might not withstand the strain.
“I’m fine, really! We need to go quickly, or I’ll go from being almost fine to actually being unwell!”
“Alright, Miss. I’ll go get the silver. Please wait here!”
And so, the two quietly slipped out of the mansion.
Meanwhile, at the Welcome Spring Pavilion, Xiao Yi woke up to find a young girl sitting by the window, her eyes red and glaring at her.
When Xiao Yi recognized her, she let out a startled cry. “Holy mother of pearl! What are you doing here?”
Gu Zhirou’s eyes were red with anger. How could Ayi do this?
She had secretly come to the brothel to rescue her, to protect her reputation. Yet here Ayi was, surrounded by two beauties on her left and two on her right, sleeping soundly as if Gu Zhirou had interrupted her enjoyment.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and tears began to flow uncontrollably.
Xiao Yi, seeing the young girl crying again, scurried into a corner. “Hey, hey, why are you crying? I didn’t bully you this time!”
“Don’t even think about trying to extort me again!”
“Little Miss, why are you crying again? If you want to cry, go somewhere else. Don’t keep crying in front of me—it makes me anxious!”
Hearing Xiao Yi’s words, Gu Zhirou felt even more wronged. She had risked her parents’ wrath to rescue Xiao Yi, only to be met with disdain and a demand for her to leave. Sobbing, she choked out, “You’re a girl! You shouldn’t be visiting brothels! Look at you—men on your left, women on your right! What kind of behavior is that?”
Xiao Yi stared back, utterly bewildered. What was wrong with visiting brothels? What did it matter if she embraced men or women? What did any of this have to do with this little crybaby?
“Hey, Little Miss, this has nothing to do with you! What does my visiting brothels have to do with you? Stop crying! No crying allowed!”
“Crybaby, get this straight: your surname is Gu, mine is Xiao. You, with your Gu surname, have no right to tell me, with my Xiao surname, what to do!”
Gu Zhirou watched Xiao Yi, who remained utterly impervious to reason, completely ignoring her words and showing no concern for her own reputation. She felt both furious and helpless.
How had Ayi become like this? She wouldn’t listen at all. How could Gu Zhirou possibly help her now? As she pondered, she burst into tears again. Ayi didn’t appreciate her efforts, yet Gu Zhirou had come running to help!
She was so angry she cried!
Xiao Yi stared at the little girl who had said only a few words before bursting into tears again, her head throbbing. What had she done to deserve this? Why had such a troublesome ancestor been sent to torment her?
“Little Miss, I was wrong, okay? Please stop crying! Ah! What do you want from me? If anyone sees you crying like this, they’ll think I’m bullying you, and I’ll get punished when I go back. You’re setting me up!
Just consider this repayment for saving your life yesterday. Please leave now, okay? I’m begging you. Please, just stay away from me in the future, okay?”
Tears still welled in Gu Zhirou’s eyes, though they hadn’t fallen yet, making her look truly pitiful. Waaah, does Ayi think I’m meddling? She doesn’t even want to see me! Am I really that annoying to her?
As she thought this, tears began streaming down her face, completely beyond her control.
“Hey, crybaby! Did you hear me? Stop crying! If you don’t, I’ll throw you out the window!”
