- Chapter 19 - The Bizarre Campus: "Sister, I'm scared
“What’s that?!”
Ren Jiyu, who was buried in her food, suddenly made a slightly loud sound. She then spat the contents of her mouth onto the table.
She leaned forward to take a closer look at what she had just spat out, and it was—
“Ugh!—”
Why are there human teeth in this fish soup?”
Her voice was so loud that it drew the attention of everyone around her. The other students who had also gotten the fish soup, just like Ren Jiyu, were so scared that they immediately threw their fish soup away. They were all terrified.
“Don’t tell me this was scooped from that lake…”
This made it hard for Ren Jiyu not to think of some disgusting images:
She covered her mouth and quickly ran away.
Not long after, the other students who had eaten the fish soup also stood up and ran out of the cafeteria, throwing up.
Fu You also lost her appetite.
“I’m sorry, Sister. I didn’t mean to… It’s all my fault. I made you lose your appetite.”
Fu Lu looked at her with a pitiful expression, his voice incredibly soft. Fu You immediately lost her temper. How could she be mad at a little brother like this?
“I’m not mad at you. I should thank you for the warning.”
Fu You didn’t like to eat fish to begin with. She had gotten a bone stuck in her throat when she was little and hadn’t eaten fish ever since. She didn’t even drink fish soup.
Otherwise, if she had spat out something strange from her mouth, she couldn’t even imagine. She would probably die!
After eating a few bites, Fu You and Fu Lu left the cafeteria.
As soon as they walked out of the cafeteria’s entrance, they saw Ren Jiyu and other students standing next to some trees, bent over and throwing up. Some even had their hands in their throats.
Fu You couldn’t stand the sight of it, so she turned and walked toward the dorm building. Fu Lu followed closely behind her.
Fu Lu followed her all the way until Fu You got to the girls’ dorm building.
“Um, Sister, if you’re scared, you can call me. Um, if you don’t want to call, you can also text me.”
He had been walking with Fu You and building up his courage, constantly cheering himself on. He finally mustered up the courage to say this to Fu You.
Fu You, of course, knew what he was talking about. Suo Xianglu and Wu Ledan were her roommates. The three of them lived together. Now that two of her roommates had died in such a horrible way, it was normal for Fu You to feel scared.
What Fu Lu was thinking was that if someone could keep calling her, her attention would be diverted. Of course, he hoped that person would be himself.
Fu You didn’t answer.
Fu Lu’s mood instantly dropped. He thought she wasn’t willing, so he added,
“Sister, it’s okay. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I’m sorry, it’s my…”
Fu You sighed at him, then smiled and said,
“I don’t even know what to say about you. Why are you so silly? We don’t have each other’s contact information. How am I supposed to call or text you?”
Fu Lu was a little stunned. Then, the smile on his face became even brighter, and his face was flushed.
He nervously took out his phone from his pocket and fumbled to unlock it, afraid that Fu You would change her mind the next second. After he unlocked it, he opened WeChat, clicked on the scan function, and looked at Fu You with a red face.
“I’m sorry, Sister. It’s my fault. I’ll scan yours.”
Fu You nodded, opened her QR code, and showed it to him. After they added each other on WeChat, Fu You put her phone away and turned to go back to the dorm. After taking two steps, she turned back and patted Fu Lu’s head affectionately. “I’m going up now. You should go back. Bye-bye!”
“Okay, okay.”
Fu Lu stood there and watched her enter the building. Only when her figure had completely disappeared around the corner did he slowly look away and turn to leave.
As soon as Fu You got back to the dorm, she saw that the other bed in the dorm had stuff on it. The bed sheets and covers were all there.
She was a little confused. Is this a new roommate?
But after what happened, how could any student be willing to move in?
She was the only one in the dorm right now. Her roommate wasn’t here, so she didn’t think too much about it. She was going to take a shower. The weather was too hot. She had already showered once after P.E. class, but it was just a quick rinse.
In her eyes, it wasn’t a real shower.
She put her phone on the bed and took her clothes to the bathroom. Not long after she went in, the phone on the bed vibrated.
In just a few seconds, more messages popped up.
A few minutes later, a voice call came in.
The dorm door opened. Another roommate had returned.
She was a little thin, with a neat bob cut and thick bangs. She didn’t talk much and always had her head down.
As soon as Fang Yaoyao walked into the dorm, she would sit at her desk, open her computer, and act as if she was possessed, her eyes only on her studies.
Ding-dong!
Fu You’s phone on the bed kept popping up with messages. She kept trying to restrain herself and hold back her emotions, but she still frowned.
She finally couldn’t take it anymore when Fu You’s phone kept vibrating and ringing at the same time.
“Help! Ahhh! Aren’t you annoyed?!”
Fang Yaoyao suddenly threw everything in her hands away and started hitting her temples with her hands. She also pulled her hair hard, looking like she wouldn’t stop until she pulled it all out.
Then, a clump of hair was pulled out.
She sat in her chair, screaming, and started to go crazy. The phone on the bed kept ringing.
Fu You, who was in the shower, heard the screaming outside. She thought Fang Yaoyao was in some kind of danger, so she wrapped herself in a towel and rushed out.
As soon as she opened the door, Fu You saw Fang Yaoyao standing by her bed, reaching for her phone, and throwing it on the ground with all her might.
Crash!
The phone’s screen went black as it hit the ground, and the tempered glass was shattered.
Fu You couldn’t help but frown. She looked up at Fang Yaoyao, who was panting heavily. Her eyes were bloodshot, her hair was a mess, and her face was contorted in a grimace. Her eyes were fixed on the broken phone on the ground.
But even though the phone was broken, she still seemed to be able to hear the phone ringing, as if the ringtone had now grown in her mind. She screamed and hit her temples. She grabbed her hair with both hands and started tearing at it.
“What’s wrong? What’s going on?”
Fu You seemed to have an impression of her. She used to be in the dorm next door. The dorm next door used to have four roommates, but for some reason, her roommates all moved out.
So, the dorm next door was just like hers now, with only one person.
No wonder she moved into her dorm.
In her memory, this girl was very introverted and didn’t like to talk. She studied very hard every day and never missed a class. She even used her mealtime to memorize vocabulary.
But for some reason, she always did poorly on tests and was always at the bottom of the class.
Sometimes, Fu You would even wonder if she wasn’t studying what was taught in the textbooks. Otherwise, why would she work so hard and not even make it into the top ten?
At the very least, she should have made some progress.
“Ah! My head! My head hurts so much! It’s so loud! So loud!”
Fang Yaoyao pulled her hair out strand by strand. Many hairs started to fall on the ground. Perhaps because she was pulling too hard, Fu You could clearly see some of the hair roots on the ground were stained with bl00d.
Fu You had a hard time stopping her. Although Fang Yaoyao looked a little thin, she was surprisingly strong. Fu You was pushed to the ground by her.
She got up and rummaged through her stuff by the bed, pulling out a watch. Then she walked behind Fang Yaoyao, put her arm around her neck, and lifted her head.
Fu You placed the front of the watch in front of Fang Yaoyao’s eyes. “Tick-tock, tick-tock!” The watch’s hands moved in a very regular rhythm. Fang Yaoyao’s eyes were gradually drawn to the watch. She stopped struggling, and her eyelids slowly closed against her will.
Until she was completely quiet.
Fu You collapsed onto the ground and couldn’t help but sigh, “Oh my god, it’s finally quiet.”
After all that, her towel had fallen off.
Since no one else was in the dorm, Fu You didn’t care about her fair body for now. She first put Fang Yaoyao on the bed, and then she went to pick up her towel.
Just as she bent down, the phone next to the towel suddenly lit up.
Fu You was a little surprised. Wasn’t this phone broken? Why is it still on?
She picked up the towel, quickly wrapped herself in it, and squatted on the ground, holding the phone in her hand and looking at it. The screen was shattered, and it had even turned into a rainbow screen.
She tried to unlock the phone. The phone suddenly opened Fu Lu’s chat box, which was filled with messages from him. The number of red dots was 99+.
Fu You clicked on the very top message and started browsing from the first one:
[Fu Lu: Sister, what are you doing!]
[Fu Lu: Sister, did you not eat enough for lunch? You’ll be hungry during class this afternoon. I have some snacks here. I’ll bring them to you.]
[Fu Lu: Sister? Why aren’t you answering me?]
[Fu Lu: Sister, I’m going to call you now~]
[Missed call]
She scrolled down, and it was all messages and calls from him. Before she could even get to the bottom, another voice call popped up. Fu You pressed the answer button.
“Sister, what are you doing? You finally answered. Boo-hoo-hoo. Why didn’t you answer for so long? I thought…”
On the other end of the line, Fu Lu’s anxious voice said,
“I’m so scared. I was afraid something had happened to you. I’m coming to find you now, Sister!”
Besides fear, there was also a hint of a sob in his young voice.
Fu Lu paused. He asked, “Sister, why aren’t you talking to me?”
“You’ve said so much that you haven’t given me a chance to speak!” Fu You was a little helpless. She had just been bombarded by Fang Yaoyao, and now she was being bombarded by Fu Lu. She really didn’t know what to do.
“Oh, right, I’m sorry, Sister.” Fu Lu apologized repeatedly and then asked, “Then, why didn’t you answer me, Sister?”
“Because I was in the shower.” Fu You walked to the balcony to look for Fu Lu’s figure and continued, “My roommate had a small problem. I just came out of the shower and was comforting her.”
She saw Fu Lu hurrying toward the building downstairs. He was holding his phone in one hand and a bag of snacks in the other. He stood downstairs and looked up. His eyes met Fu You’s, and a big smile instantly appeared on his face:
“Sister!”
