- Chapter 28 - The Bizarre Campus: This is a Warning Next Time You Die
“You’re not sleeping either.”
Fu You typed a few words and sent them. As soon as she sent it, the other person showed “typing.” In a moment, another message came.
“I want to see you.”
Fu You: “Huh? Now?”
She had just sent that when she sent another one: “It’s late, and it’s raining.”
Fu Lu: “It’s not raining outside.”
Fu You’s heart skipped a beat. Not raining? How could it not be raining? If it’s really not raining outside, then how do I explain the sound of rain and the raindrops I saw?
She reached into her pocket and felt the dagger, the red rope, and the small card. She took a moment to calm down. She held them tightly and didn’t dare to let go. In this pitch-black night, if anything happened to her, she would probably have nightmares every night.
She slowly sat up and looked toward the curtain, but she didn’t pull it open. She just sat there leaning against the wall, tightly gripping those things in her hand.
Her phone vibrated again on the bed. She turned her head to look around. She didn’t find anything unusual and then opened her phone to check the messages. The chat box for Fu Lu had a red dot. She could see the message without even opening it. He said he was already downstairs at the female dorm building.
Fu You was a little hesitant. It would take at least ten minutes to walk from the male dorm to the female dorm. From the messages she had exchanged with Fu Lu, it was clear that the person she was chatting with was not Fu Lu. So who was he?
Why would he use Fu Lu’s phone to text her?
If it wasn’t raining outside, what was making that sound?
She carefully grabbed the curtain and opened a small gap to look outside. It was already late at night. There were no lights outside the window, but she could confirm that there were traces of water sliding down the window glass. It was indeed raining outside.
So, why was he lying to her? To scare her?
The time for thinking was fleeting. She felt like the whole room was spinning, then it returned to normal. She sat on the bed, not daring to move, until her phone vibrated again.
She opened the chat box. The message from Fu Lu said: I’m already on the second floor.
Fu You was so scared that goosebumps covered her entire body. She had to do something now. She adjusted the screen brightness of her phone to medium-high. Using the light from the screen, she took two small cards and held them in her hands. The cards had a picture of a tabby cat without eyes.
She didn’t know what they were for, but since they didn’t have eyes, maybe they were used to blind others so they couldn’t find her?
She didn’t know, so she had to take a gamble!
Fu You was finally experiencing the pain of not having any money. She couldn’t even recognize what the things were for. Her life was completely dependent on gambling. It was truly a terrible feeling.
Without money, she couldn’t even afford a manual. She felt like an illiterate fool.
The phone vibrated again. The hand holding the phone felt numb, as if it had lost all feeling. Her eyes were fixed on the message that said he was at the dorm door. Before she could even reply, a knocking sound came from the door.
“Knock—Knock—Knock—”
Three knocks, not one more, not one less. The time between each knock was slow, about thirty seconds.
Fu you didn’t answer or get out of bed. She held the things tightly in her hand and didn’t dare to relax for a second until she heard the other person say, “I’m coming in.”
At the same time, the door was pushed open. Fu You, in her panic, tore up the small card in her hand. She actually didn’t know how to activate the card. The last time, she had accidentally torn up the card in her pocket and escaped. This time, she tried tearing up the card at a critical moment, and it worked.
There was no sound of wind, no sound of rain, no sound of Fu Lu’s voice, and no sound of the door knocking.
Everything fell silent.
She thought she had really blinded the monster, but she was wrong. The system’s prompt suddenly sounded in her ears:
[Congratulations to the player for triggering the game. The Blindfolded Search is in effect. Searching for other players within a one-meter radius of the player.]
[Search successful. A total of three other players have been found.]
[The game rules can be set by the player. The settings must be reasonable. The player who tore the card has only three minutes to set the rules. The game will start after three minutes. Please be aware that the countdown is about to begin. This is a safe time.]
“What the heck? So that’s what the tabby cat means.”
Fu You was too exhausted to complain. At this moment, she was trying to figure out the game rules. It was safe for the next three minutes, so no matter what she did, the monster shouldn’t come after her. She could be bold and get out of bed.
As she said that, she quickly got out of bed. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she saw three people standing next to her.
On the far right was a bewildered Xiaoyue. They both stared at each other, looking confused. Fu You didn’t know why Xiaoyue was here, but from the looks of it, she must have been forced to come in. She seemed to have some consciousness, but it wasn’t very strong.
In the middle was a very quiet-looking girl wearing a dark green cheongsam with a pattern. Her hair was a little messy, and there were bloodstains at the corners of her mouth. She had a Hong Kong and Macao style about her. Her eyes were empty, and from those dead eyes, Fu You could only see that this girl was very cold.
Fu You looked down and saw that the girl in the middle was holding a dagger in her hand. A gem was embedded in the dagger. She instantly remembered that this was the self-defense dagger she had destroyed. So, she really hadn’t been wrong about destroying it.
On the far left was a middle-aged man, a little chubby, but not too much. To be precise, he had a beer belly. He had a few stubble of a beard and looked like a short, perverted man.
How short? Shorter than Fu You. He looked to be only about five feet and a few inches tall.
Fu You now understands. This middle-aged man was following the girl in the middle, and the girl was following Fang Yaoyao. But why were they still here? Had they now set their sights on her?
That was a possibility. After all, when Fu You got out of bed, the other two, besides Xiaoyue, had ferocious looks on their faces. They looked as if they wanted to tear her to shreds the next second. In fact, the girl and the middle-aged man were doing just that.
Just as Fu You was standing by the bed looking at them carefully, the girl and the middle-aged man moved at the same time and lunged at Fu You. Fu You was startled and took a few steps back.
Just as they were about to touch Fu You, they were repelled by something and flew backward.
Xiaoyue turned her head, her eyes wide, and said, “What’s going on?”
Fu You pointed at the two ghosts lying on the floor and answered, “They’re here to kill me.”
“What? Kill you? But just now…”
Xiaoyue was a little shocked. She gestured at what had just happened and what they had done, and she was speechless for a moment, not knowing what to say.
Fu You gently rubbed her forehead. She thought about it and decided to be completely honest. She didn’t expect Xiaoyue to be pulled in either. “To put it simply, we’ve entered a game. Everyone and every monster within one meter of me will be pulled into this game. You can think of this as a buff I have.”
“This is a safe time. We only have three minutes. The countdown is already on. I’m going to set a game rule and a role for you.”
Xiaoyue was like a student who was listening attentively in class. She probably learned everything she had missed in class all at once. She was a little surprised herself. She didn’t know she could listen so attentively.
As she listened, she looked at the two people on the floor. The two of them were struggling to get up and were staring intently at Fu You. The look in their eyes made Fu You’s skin crawl. If looks could kill, she would have been pierced by a thousand arrows by now.
“Xiaoyue, listen. You and I are the cats. Those two are the mice. It’s a cat-and-mouse game. Do you understand?”
Seeing Xiaoyue nod, she continued, “We’ll be blindfolded. They can only hide in this dorm. They have five minutes to hide. If we find them, they will die. If we don’t find them within half an hour, we’ll be eliminated and leave this game.”
“Damn it! That’s not fair!”
The girl’s eyes instantly filled with bl00d. She walked toward Fu You and stood next to Xiaoyue. After the lesson just now, she didn’t dare to get close to Fu You easily, so she could only stand at a relatively safe distance and continue, “Why do you get to make the rules? Why do we have to die? Why! Your rules are clearly targeting us. This place is so small. If we’re found, we’ll die. If you don’t find us, you just leave. I don’t agree!”
“Yeah, I don’t agree. I strongly disagree. You’re trying to set us up. I’m not stupid. I’m not doing this!”
The middle-aged man echoed. Fu You chuckled and said, “It’s not fair? I think it’s very fair and reasonable. Think about it. What happens when a cat catches a mouse?”
The two of them answered in unison, “It eats it!”
“Bang!” Fu You clapped her hands and said, “That’s right! See? When a cat catches a mouse, it eats it. Whether it locks it up or eats it, the mouse will eventually die, right? If the cat doesn’t catch the mouse, it just doesn’t eat it. Have you ever seen a hunter who kills himself because he didn’t catch his prey?”
Xiaoyue shook her head and said, “No, I haven’t.”
She then turned to look at the girl and the middle-aged man. Seeing that they also shook their heads, she subconsciously smiled and added, “Well said. I support this.”
The girl, who had just realized what was happening, was holding the dagger tightly. She was about to say something, but the system’s voice announcing that the game rules had been approved stopped her. She was so angry that she stabbed the dagger into the middle-aged man’s arm. A cry of surprise echoed in the ears of the few people.
The three minutes were up. The middle-aged man’s wound healed because of the game. Fu You and Xiaoyue, who were the cats, were suddenly blindfolded. Even though she was mentally prepared, Fu You was still a little panicked.
Fu You tried to open her eyes and look through the black blindfold. Even if she could see a little bit of light, that would be good. But no matter what she did, she couldn’t open her eyes even a little bit.
Seeing that Fu You and Xiaoyue had closed their eyes, the girl gave the middle-aged man a look. The middle-aged man, with a cunning look in his eyes, smiled and nodded. He carefully tiptoed forward and walked to Fu You’s side. He gently pulled out the long sword from his waist, gripped the hilt with both hands, and slashed in Fu You’s direction.
“Duang..”
An invisible force knocked him back again. The long sword pierced the floor, and he didn’t fall to the ground. Then a warning sound appeared:
[This player is warned once. The mouse is not allowed to harm the cat. Otherwise, it is a violation, and the player will be eliminated on the spot. This is a warning. Next time, you die.]
