The Domineering CEO, but a Crybaby! - Chapter 17.2
Chapter 17.2: She’s My Person
Nie Wenya looked surprised: “Who said she’s my person? Who’s spreading rumors? I’m still single.”
As she spoke, she reached out and patted Tu Xuan’s shoulder: “If you want to be my person, I might consider it.”
Tu Xuan dodged her hand.
Nie Wenya’s smile deepened. Her words seemed to have a deeper meaning: “What, do you already have someone?”
She looked at the messy bed in the room: “Who is it, your boss?”
The innuendo in her words was now almost explicit. The police officers checking the room all turned to look at Tu Xuan, with more or less a look of scrutiny in their eyes.
Tu Xuan frowned, her face darkening as she looked at her.
Nie Wenya was completely unaffected. She even used a finger to gently push Tu Xuan’s shoulder: “Where’s your boss? Why hasn’t she come out yet? Or can you represent her completely? Are you that close?”
“Officer, our boss was very shaken last night and has only just woken up.”
A sound came from the doorway. Nie Wenya and Tu Xuan both looked at the door.
Tu Xuan’s sharp gaze softened a little when she saw Su Ming. Nie Wenya noticed this change immediately.
“The boss just woke up. Officer Judy, please wait a moment.” After Su Ming said that, she glanced at the woman’s body on the ground. “Officer Judy, is this dead person your person?”
Nie Wenya smiled: “Su Ming, is it? What’s your relationship with her?”
She pointed to Tu Xuan.
Su Ming was confused, and Tu Xuan was also puzzled as to why the person was asking such a question.
Nie Wenya: “You’re both of one mind. You’re asking the same question.”
Su Ming’s face darkened: “This person tried to kill our boss, but so far, you police haven’t even told us her identity. It’s hard not to think too much.”
Nie Wenya put away her smile and looked at Su Ming: “Is your boss dead?”
Before anyone could answer, she continued: “But the person on the ground is definitely dead. The dead can’t speak… It’s really hard to only listen to the living when it comes to who killed whom.”
Su Ming frowned: “This person tried to kill someone and then committed suicide. More than one pair of eyes saw it. Does Officer Judy have any doubts about this?”
There was no smile on Nie Wenya’s face, and her eyes turned cold: “Oh? Unfortunately, I didn’t see it.”
The implication was that she only believed what she saw herself.
Tu Xuan grabbed Su Ming, who was about to say more: “No need to waste your breath on this person. Have you called Commander Li?”
Su Ming nodded.
Nie Wenya’s eyebrows raised slightly. This He person had some connections, but the person she called wasn’t high enough in rank. That He person was going to be disappointed.
She stepped back, no longer insisting on entering the room that Tu Xuan was blocking. It was as if she was scared after hearing they had called someone. She turned to continue checking the details in the room where the murder had occurred.
She had received news last night that a detective from her department had died, and she had died in the home of the He person she had seen just yesterday. She had a gut feeling something was wrong and rushed over overnight.
The person on the ground was indeed someone from her department, named Fang Nian. She had been on sick leave for a few days. She had checked the records, and she had been to He Shu’s hospital during the day.
“What’s the situation?” Nie Wenya squatted down next to Gu Feng, their department’s forensic examiner.
Gu Feng was concise: “A shot to the head. The bullet matches the gun in her hand. The bullets found at the scene are all from this gun. There’s only one person’s fingerprint on the gun.”
Everything looked exactly as Su Ming had described. Fang Nian had snuck into the room to try and kill He Shu, but she missed a few shots. He Shu waited for help, and Fang Nian, seeing no way to escape, committed suicide.
It was absurd. Nie Wenya sneered inwardly.
She thought of the question Tu Xuan had asked earlier, asking if Fang Nian was her person. Strictly speaking, she wasn’t yet. She had a strict standard for defining ‘her person.’ Fang Nian was just someone working under her at the moment.
But what no one knew was that every person in her department, who seemed to have been normally transferred or promoted, was actually hand-picked by her.
She had chosen Fang Nian not only for her excellent IT investigation skills but also for her perfect scores in the police academy.
It was safe to say that under Nie Wenya’s command, there would be no useless person who couldn’t hit a target, especially since, according to the testimony, Fang Nian had fired the gun while the person was asleep.
What a bunch of nonsense. Nie Wenya looked at the person on the ground who had stopped breathing. Someone under her command had died for no reason. She would definitely get to the bottom of this!
As she thought, there was a sound from behind her. A series of ‘CEO He’s’ came from far away.
Nie Wenya turned to look. Different from the business elite she had seen at the hospital, today’s He Shu was in casual clothes. Her hair was not styled and was naturally scattered on her shoulders. Her face was bare, and her eyes, which were sharper than average, seemed much softer due to exhaustion.
She looked a bit like a good citizen.
He Shu, for once, was not happy to hear the continuous ‘CEO He’s.’ Thinking of the scene she had witnessed last night, her empty stomach felt a wave of nausea. She only walked to the door and stopped there. She had heard that the body hadn’t been moved yet, and she was afraid that if she saw it, she would faint again.
Nie Wenya saw that she had stopped and walked up to her: “Hello again, CEO He.”
“I heard that Officer Judy specifically wanted to see me.”
“There are always some questions that need to be asked of the person involved. But before that, I’ll have to trouble you to have your people step back and not obstruct police work.”
As she spoke, she pointed to Tu Xuan, who was blocking a yellow door, and the person who was clearly He Shu’s bodyguard standing in front of a red door.
He Shu thought of the situation in those two rooms and instantly understood Tu Xuan’s intention to block the person. She was protecting her ‘dignity’!
If those things were seen by these police officers… He Shu lowered her gaze, hiding the embarrassment in her eyes. She had been so shaken last night, narrowly escaping death, and she hadn’t expected this ‘social death’ to be waiting for her!!!
What should she do? Could she refuse the police’s request?
The principle of being a law-abiding citizen was ingrained in He Shu’s bones. She also knew that things were a little different in this world. She had some power. At the police station, her team of lawyers was more arrogant than the police.
And when Su Ming had called her just now, she had also said that they had people in the police force…
As He Shu hesitated, Officer Judy spoke again: “If you don’t agree now, you’ll have to agree when the search warrant comes.”
Su Ming scoffed: “Do you own the police station? Do you get a search warrant just because you want one? Our boss’s private residence is protected by law. And please don’t forget, Officer, we are the victims, not criminals!”
“Don’t get agitated. I’m doing this for your boss’s safety. I want to find clues and get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. Besides, how do you know the other rooms are safe? Since this person was able to sneak into your villa, which is supposedly well-secured, alone, she must have some special abilities. Aren’t you worried that she might have left some special arrangements or a backup plan in the other rooms? Maybe there’s a bomb hidden somewhere, and it will go off at a certain time.”
Tu Xuan: “Thank you for your concern, Officer, but we will check it ourselves.”
Nie Wenya smiled: “You didn’t even know such a big person had entered the villa, so how can you be confident that you can rule out the threats this person might have caused?”
He Shu felt that she had a point. Last night, she didn’t know how the person had appeared in her room. Maybe she came through the pet room and into her bedroom through the small inner door. It was really hard to say whether she had left anything there.
She was conflicted. Should she let the police see? Before she could make a decision, their ‘backer’ arrived.
At the same time, the search warrant also arrived.
And it was their backer who respectfully handed it to this red-haired woman.
He Shu looked at the person who seemed to have anticipated this result with confusion. This person had a considerable background, but she had read this part of the original book and had never seen anyone named Officer Judy.
And this extra plot, what was going on? It couldn’t be that the book had created a character on its own, could it?
“System, system, come out. Who is this woman?”
[System is undergoing maintenance and upgrades…]
Oh, for goodness’ sake. It was practically writing ‘there’s a ghost’ on its face. He Shu was furious. Although she didn’t know what the system was up to, she was sure it wasn’t a good thing.
Someone had almost killed her last night, and it hadn’t given her a single warning. It didn’t care about her life or death at all.
And just now, it said that she had to ask herself about the change in the plot. When she asked for clarification, it said it didn’t know!
“CEO He?”
A call made He Shu snap back to reality. She found that everyone was looking at her, waiting for her command.
He Shu pursed her lips and had Tu Xuan and her team step aside. The other person had a search warrant. If she didn’t agree, it would be like openly going against the police.
Nie Wenya wasn’t surprised by He Shu’s choice. This person seemed to be a pragmatist.
“If CEO He isn’t at ease, you can come with us.”
He Shu hesitated for a moment, then finally bit the bullet and followed the red-haired woman. If she was there, maybe she could explain things a bit…
When the red door was opened, Officer Judy’s footsteps paused, and her heart also paused. Even though she wasn’t the one who had created this, she was He Shu now, and her face was burning with embarrassment.
Nie Wenya turned to look at the visibly uncomfortable He Shu. She had read the data before, but after actually seeing the things in the room, she had a deeper understanding of the person who seemed a bit perverted in the data.
This person’s perversion was quite unique.
Lisa, who had entered the room with Nie Wenya, also had the same thought… When she first arrived at the villa, seeing the red, yellow, and green doors, she thought the owner was a bit strange.
Now, after seeing this, she felt that the word ‘strange’ was not an accurate description.
This room clearly didn’t look like a normal person’s room. There was only a huge mat on the floor. She took pictures of everything, especially the massive dog cage in the room.
The dog cage was painted beige and was covered in dolls. The most bizarre thing was that a white coat was locked inside.
Nie Wenya looked at the white coat and turned to He Shu: “CEO He, what does this mean?”
He Shu furrowed her brow. This, she actually wanted to know herself. Why did Cen Qianyi lock this piece of clothing in the dog cage? Was it what she thought? Did she actually want to lock her up?
But then, she thought it was a bit off. She didn’t say to lock up the clothes she gave her later.
Seeing that everyone was waiting for her explanation, He Shu bit the bullet and made something up.
“It’s a… a kind of… prayer! Yes, have you ever heard of it? In some places, they pour the dregs of medicine onto the road and let people and cars step on them to get rid of sickness. This is similar. By locking up the sickness, you can be healthy.”
“CEO He, you have a lot of ideas.” Nie Wenya walked up to the pile of candles on the floor and asked, “Is this also some kind of ritual?”
Seeing the pile of candles, He Shu immediately thought of what had happened in this room yesterday. The tips of her ears turned red. Fortunately, her hair was covering them, so no one could see.
She nodded hard, her tone firm and her attitude serious.
“Yes, it’s to pray for world peace.”
Nie Wenya gave her a deep look, noncommittal. Seeing that her subordinates had almost finished their checks, she walked to the small brown door. “This door leads to the room that looked yellow from the outside, right?”
He Shu’s eyelids twitched. The main event was coming. She was about to be ‘socially dead’!
“What are you so nervous about, CEO He? Is there something unspeakable inside?”
He Shu calmed her heart and looked at the person who was fishing for information with every word. She swallowed: “Officer Judy, if you’re interested, feel free to look for yourself.”
After she nodded, Su Ming unlocked the door.
He Shu looked at Su Ming. She really couldn’t say enough good things about her assistant. She had locked all these rooms before calling the police and wouldn’t open the door without her permission.
It was just a pity that her boss was going to be completely ‘socially dead’ today…
As soon as the door opened, He Shu could clearly feel that everyone except her and Su Ming held their breath, including Tu Xuan.
Tu Xuan knew that her boss had some special hobbies, but she didn’t know the specifics. She had never been in this room. The sight of it was quite shocking. She shifted her gaze to Su Ming, finding that she wasn’t shocked at all and seemed to be completely in the know.
Of course, she thought. Su Ming was the one who handled the boss’s ‘playthings.’ Tu Xuan thought of the ‘plaything’ she had seen last night. When she arrived, that woman had something stuffed in her mouth…
She walked into the room and quickly saw the same thing, a whole cabinet of them, in all different colors.
Nie Wenya picked up one of them, a black leather strap with a red soft ball, and held it up to her face: “CEO He, is this thing for putting in your mouth?”
Seeing that the other person was asking something she already knew, wanting to make her ‘socially dead’ even more, He Shu really wanted to stuff the thing in her mouth to shut her up!
Nie Wenya held the ball and scanned the cabinets with her gaze. The more she looked, the more surprised she was. Someone would actually use an entire room for these things…
She looked at the clothes displayed in the glass cabinets in the middle of the room. These clothes were truly difficult to describe…
To put it simply, they covered the front but not the back, or they covered the top but not the bottom. Some were very special, like the one with a mesh chest. Imagining the effect of wearing it, it was better to not wear anything at all.
This woman, Nie Wenya gripped the ball in her hand, looked at He Shu, and was truly more ‘perverted’ than she had thought.
Even if she respected personal fetishes, she had to say that this person’s taste was too wild.
For some reason, the little blind girl she had seen at the hospital unbidden popped into her mind.
Was that the person she was playing with?
Playing with these things?
Nie Wenya walked to a cabinet and looked at the various whips inside. She casually pulled one out and whipped it on her wrist twice: “It hurts quite a bit. CEO He, you must be gentle with the flowers and cherish the jade.”
He Shu pretended not to understand what she was saying. She was already ‘socially dead’ anyway, so she had no fear, only the desire to cry.
Nie Wenya put the thing back and walked to another cabinet, looking at the various delicate knives inside. She picked up one that was a folding model. When she opened it, she saw that the blade and handle were only as long as an index finger. The blade was not smooth. It had very dense, small纹理s. She ran it across her finger, and it wasn’t sharp. It would be difficult to use it to kill someone.
He Shu had been paying attention to her movements. Seeing the thing she had picked up, her hand at her side clenched tightly. She thought of what she was supposed to do tonight according to the original plot.
She wanted to cry. Actually, compared to yesterday’s adding things to the person, tonight’s reducing things from the person was truly fatal!
“CEO He, what are these knives for?” Nie Wenya looked at the suddenly nervous He Shu and couldn’t help but wonder if she had guessed wrong. She felt that they looked more like eyebrow trimmers, just more exquisitely crafted and a little larger than the average size.
He Shu stabilized her heart and replied: “Trimming eyebrows.”
Nie Wenya raised an eyebrow. So it was for trimming eyebrows. She thought of the poor little thing she had seen at the hospital. Her eyebrows were not too thick or thin, not too long or short. They were truly perfect. What a waste to trim them.
“CEO He, your eyebrows are very nice. I think it’s better not to trim them.”
He Shu gave a bitter smile and didn’t respond.
Nie Wenya walked to a cabinet next to it, looking at the various handcuffs inside. Two spots were empty. She pointed to the empty spots and asked He Shu: “Were the things from here used last night?”
As she spoke, she seemed to have thought of something and walked up to He Shu: “By the way, CEO He, where’s the person you were with last night? I’ll have to trouble you to ask her to come down for a moment. I have a few questions to ask.”
She wanted to ask Cen Qianyi. He Shu looked at Nie Wenya: “What do you want to ask?”
Nie Wenya: “That’s not convenient to tell you, CEO He. The police are handling a case. Please cooperate.”
Su Ming took a step forward, standing by He Shu’s side: “We’ve told you everything we have to say. There was no one else last night.”
She definitely couldn’t let Cen Qianyi talk to the police alone. Although she was confident that they could handle whatever the other person said, it was always better to have less trouble.
He Shu looked at Su Ming’s nervousness and realized the reason. Cen Qianyi was brought here by the original owner. If she told the police something, there would probably be trouble.
But! He Shu’s eyes lit up. This was great! The more trouble, the better! It would be best if she was arrested. Then she wouldn’t have to go through tonight’s plot!
She suddenly realized there was a way out!
“Su Ming, go get the person.”
He Shu looked at Su Ming and gave the command.
“Okay.” With the boss’s command, Su Ming immediately agreed and handed the key to Tu Xuan.
After she left, Tu Xuan opened the small door connecting the tool room to He Shu’s bedroom, and the group returned to He Shu’s bedroom.
The body had already been moved, but the bloodstains on the floor and the viscous, probably brain matter, were still there. He Shu didn’t dare to look too closely and only looked at the holes in the wall.
Those were the evidence of her narrow escape from death.
“Officer Judy, do you have any leads on what happened last night? Why would this person want to kill me?”
Nie Wenya looked at He Shu: “What makes you think she wanted to kill you?”
“Isn’t all this evidence?” He Shu pointed to the bullet holes.
Nie Wenya followed her gaze and said meaningfully: “This is indeed evidence. It’s evidence that she didn’t want to kill you.”
“Hmm?”
Nie Wenya looked at the genuinely confused person: “If I gave you a gun and told you to aim at a person who was sleeping motionless in a bed from this distance, would you miss?”
He Shu raised an eyebrow. How could she? She wasn’t blind.
When she put it that way, she thought of the woman from last night and how she was trapped by just one blanket in the end. It was truly strange.
As she hesitated, footsteps came from the doorway. He Shu snapped back to reality and looked at the door.
Cen Qianyi was wearing the loose sportswear she had given her yesterday. The wide hem revealed a white skirt, which looked like a nightgown. He Shu raised an eyebrow. Why did this person just put a jacket over her nightgown? She had prepared clothes for her.
Just now, upstairs, she didn’t dare to be alone with her. She had answered her question, changed, and then left.
This person also seemed to have come in a hurry and had a look of fear on her face.
What happened?
