- Chapter 74 - Blood Mist Blocks the Sun — A Surprise Attack with Flying Blades
“Everyone, fall back.”
Gu Xiaoran spoke coldly as she drew the sword from her waist and slowly approached Chen Xiaojing.
“Just one question—why do you insist on killing me?”
Chen Xiaojing asked.
“Because your power is rare and valuable,” Gu Xiaoran said.
“Give it to me, and I can save the world.”
“Kneel, become part of humanity’s evolution. Blue Star will thank you for it.”
“How ridiculous.”
With a flash of bl00d-red light, Chen Xiaojing drew her sword and teleported behind Gu Xiaoran.
Bang!
To her surprise, Gu Xiaoran actually twisted around and blocked with her blade in time!
And that casual-looking swing held unbelievable force. Chen Xiaojing’s hands went numb, and her sword almost flew out of her grip.
Not a problem. I, Chen Xiaojing, specialize in agility!
With that thought, she turned into a blur, darting around Gu Xiaoran and slashing from different angles.
Like dealing with a misbehaving child, Gu Xiaoran just glanced around dismissively. No matter where the attacks came from, she blocked them with ease.
Field-type spiritual power: Detection.
This ability worked just like when Su Mu first fought Chen Xiaojing and activated her vampire powers.
Whether it was Wang Xin or Chen Xiaojing, they both needed to set a spiritual anchor at their target location before teleporting.
Field detection could sense those anchors—so Gu Xiaoran could predict where she’d appear.
“Vampire princess, can you stop flitting around like a fly?”
Gu Xiaoran shot Chen Xiaojing a look of annoyance. The air around them thickened, and even the ground beneath her feet turned sticky.
Ice-type power: Air solidification.
Earth-type power: Immobilization.
“What?!”
With her movements restricted, Chen Xiaojing could barely move—let alone teleport. She was starting to feel overwhelmed.
“He said you were good at close combat. Let’s see just how good you really are!”
Gu Xiaoran swung her sword again. Chen Xiaojing couldn’t dodge and had to raise her blade to block.
Clang!
Sparks flew as the weapons clashed.
The powerful impact shot through her sword and into her body. Her throat burned with the taste of bl00d, and crimson leaked from the corner of her lips.
After several hard blows, her sword was knocked from her hands, and she spat out a mouthful of bl00d.
Then—bam!—Gu Xiaoran kicked her hard, sending her flying. Chen Xiaojing struggled for a while but couldn’t get up.
“Su Mu, is this all you’ve got?”
Gu Xiaoran was actually a bit surprised. It had been too easy. He held his sword and looked Chen Xiaojing over with curiosity.
Before the apocalypse began, Gu Xiaoran—like Su Mu—had been chosen by one of Blue Star’s ancient gods to be a savior of humanity.
From the moment he was chosen, that god had warned him that someone powerful also resided in Lin’an.
The vampire princess—Su Mu.
That god had repeatedly told him: if he could absorb Su Mu’s spiritual power, he would become unrivaled in Lin’an.
Over the past few weeks, Gu Xiaoran had sent out countless teams to search for this so-called “vampire princess,” but with very little success.
They didn’t even know what she looked like—only her name and powers. Searching for someone like that in a huge city like Lin’an was no easy task.
Two weeks ago, the god sent him another message—Su Mu was staying at the Normal University High School.
Gu Xiaoran was thrilled and sent several teams to approach the school from different directions.
But…
None of them ever made it.
There were just too many mutant beasts and demons around that area.
And without knowing exactly what Su Mu was capable of, Gu Xiaoran didn’t want to risk sending his most powerful followers.
Then today—after all that effort—he finally found her by accident.
But Su Mu…
Was this weak?
Gu Xiaoran felt deeply disappointed.
How could someone this weak possibly hold such immense spiritual power?
“You look disappointed… is it because I’m too weak?”
Chen Xiaojing wiped the bl00d from her lips, then smiled playfully. “But hey, since you’re kind of handsome, I’ll tell you a little secret.”
She waved him over, motioning for him to lean in.
Gu Xiaoran didn’t hesitate at all. Confident in his many layers of spiritual defense, he smiled and moved closer.
“Go ahead,” he said, leaning his ear close to her mouth with a mocking grin.
“I…”
“…am not Su Mu.”
Chen Xiaojing gave him a cheeky smile, clearly pleased with her little prank.
“What?!”
Gu Xiaoran’s body tensed. Something felt very wrong.
That’s right. The god had said Su Mu was a close-combat expert—there’s no way she would’ve gone down so easily!
“Where’s the real Su Mu?!”
“If you don’t tell me, I’ll kill you!”
He raised his sword to strike.
“Ohhh?~”
“Is someone calling for the universe’s number one, super-cute, ultra-powerful official bl00d princess ship—me?”
“I’m right here~!”
Whoosh!
As Su Mu’s voice rang out, a crimson blur shot through the air, aimed straight for Gu Xiaoran’s throat.
“What?!”
Even though he could see the bl00d-red light and the two figures descending from the sky, his field detection picked up nothing—not even a trace of Su Mu’s presence!
Just as the bat wings reached him, Gu Xiaoran raised his sword to block.
BOOM—!
This time, it was Gu Xiaoran who struggled. The blow knocked him back several steps.
BOOM—!
But that wasn’t the end. The real attack came with the clash: a massive burst of vampire energy, laced with mental power, exploded from Su Mu’s wings.
“What kind of move is this?!”
In an instant, Gu Xiaoran lost all control over the spiritual fields around him. Even his tech devices went dead.
Bl00d mist spread, darkening the sky.
No matter how powerful your spiritual domain…
No matter how advanced your machines…
In that moment, everything belonged to Su Mu!
It was a vampire shock bomb, and Gu Xiaoran was thrown into chaos.
Su Mu’s wings tore through the crowd like a deadly red streak.
At the same time, Chen Mo’s throwing knives—hidden by the bl00d mist—rained down from above, targeting the helicopters.
With the radar jammed, the blades flew straight along the flight path, appearing as thin black lines—nearly impossible to spot by eye.
Smash!
Hidden in the bl00d mist, the knives crashed through the windshields. By the time the pilots saw them, it was far too late to react.
Under Su Mu’s orders, Chen Mo didn’t aim to kill right away. The knives pierced the pilots’ right shoulders—non-lethal for now.
In pain and panic, the pilots instinctively landed their helicopters and fled.
Once the helicopters were safely down, Chen Mo guided the knives again—this time, striking to kill.
In the apocalypse, armed helicopters were precious resources.
Especially with a replication station back at base that could copy physical objects.
If the same tactic worked on tanks, there’s no way Su Mu would let Jiang Yiqin blow them up with her electromagnetic ion cannon.
By the time the bl00d mist cleared, most of Gu Xiaoran’s spiritual-powered fighters were either dead or had fled. Only a handful of elite bodyguards remained.
Su Mu leapt from Chen Mo’s arms. Her sword flashed silver as she struck straight at Gu Xiaoran.
“If you don’t want to die, then get lost.”
