- Chapter 11 - Mo Beiyi, The Dragon Who Refuses to Be a Simp
“This must be Azure Star,” Mo Beiyi said, looking seriously into Gu Xiyi’s eyes.
Afraid that Gu Xiyi wouldn’t believe her, she added, “I came here when I was very little, so I have some memories of it.”
Gu Xiyi didn’t doubt her. It was getting late, and although Azure Star didn’t have any dangerous beasts, running around aimlessly was not a wise choice. After a day of running, she was also exhausted and just wanted to rest.
Azure Star was hailed as the birthplace of humanity. After entering the galactic era, people began to restore the environment, striving to bring it back to its original beautiful state. As large numbers of humans moved away, the native population gradually decreased. After the Human Alliance split into two factions, this place became an imperial territory and a resort for nobles and aristocrats.
Although the planet was once again subjected to bombardment a few years ago, the Federation intentionally protected it after its occupation. This left Azure Star looking pretty much the same as before, except for a few more ruins. The number of soldiers stationed on this planet was also small. They had landed in a small outpost, which was why they were able to force their way out.
Mo Beiyi yawned, and seeing Gu Xiyi fall asleep with her head on her stomach, she also started to feel sleepy.
She didn’t turn back into her human form. This place wasn’t safe, and she didn’t know if the Federation soldiers would come after them. Also, in her dragon form, she felt that her abilities were much stronger, as if… she had been freed from some kind of restriction.
Besides, she couldn’t just let the female lead sleep on the open ground. Although she was hard all over, her abdomen and tail were soft, so it was fine for Gu Xiyi to sleep on her stomach. Gu Xiyi wasn’t heavy, after all.
Honestly, a sleeping Gu Xiyi… looked so good. Her fair face, her defenseless look… It made a person, oh no, a dragon…
…want to lick her.
Her big golden eyes widened. Why was she having such a strange thought?
I’m getting weird every time I’m around the female lead.
Mo Beiyi licked her teeth, suppressed the urge to rub her head against her, and instead rested it on a rock. She gently lowered her wings to cover Gu Xiyi and encircled her with her long, thick tail before slowly closing her eyes.
The dark scales shimmered in the moonlight, with a hint of gold occasionally flashing through.
The two of them woke up as soon as the sun came up the next day.
Once awake, Mo Beiyi’s stomach started to growl. She had only eaten one meal yesterday and flew for so long. It was a miracle she hadn’t gotten hungry sooner.
“…” Good thing my face is black right now. Even if I’m blushing, Gu Xiyi won’t be able to see it.
Gu Xiyi didn’t mock Mo Beiyi. She was also hungry, but neither of them had anything on them.
“Splash, splash…” The sound of the flowing stream wasn’t loud, but it caught Gu Xiyi’s attention. After all these years of human restoration efforts, the water was crystal clear, and she could faintly see some sizable fish swimming in it.
She called out to Mo Beiyi, “Beiyi, see if you can catch some fish in here.”
“Okay.” Won’t eating fish so early in the morning be a bit too greasy? But after her stomach growled twice more, Mo Beiyi put these thoughts out of her mind.
She glared at the fish in the water, thinking, It’s just catching fish. With my current reflexes and sharp claws, it’ll be a piece of cake, right?
So, when Gu Xiyi came back with some firewood she had collected, she saw a wet black dragon with empty claws.
“…” Mo Beiyi’s mouth twitched. She looked at the fish in the water, which seemed to be blowing bubbles to mock her. A surge of anger rose in her throat.
“Roar!” With a roar, a bright fireball shot out of her mouth and exploded in the water, blasting several fish onto the bank.
Mo Beiyi: So I can breathe fire?
Gu Xiyi: So she can breathe fire!
Mo Beiyi sneezed twice, and a few sparks flew out of her nose. At Gu Xiyi’s encouragement, she recalled the feeling from before, gathered her strength for a moment, and breathed out another flame.
But she didn’t control the force very well. Not only did she set fire to the firewood Gu Xiyi had gathered, but she also almost burned down a small tree nearby.
She patted her chest, thinking, Phew, that was close. I know starting a forest fire will land you in jail.
Gu Xiyi simply scraped the fish scales off with a rock. They didn’t have any seasonings, so after roasting them, they just ate them to fill their stomachs.
“Let’s go check out that small village we saw yesterday,” Gu Xiyi suggested.
The smoke meant there were likely people there. Most of the people in these small villages were Imperial citizens who hadn’t managed to evacuate. Maybe they could find a way to leave this place.
Mo Beiyi had no objections. She folded her wings and tried to make herself as small as possible. In the past two months, her human form hadn’t changed much, but her dragon form had been changing every day. Aside from her tail and neck, her body was already six to seven meters long, and her wingspan was dozens of meters. Mo Beiyi thought that at this rate, she’d be over a hundred meters long in a few years. Thankfully, her body had a complete set of functions, and she could adjust her size. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to transform in her bedroom for fun before.
So why am I still short in my human form?
Mo Beiyi followed behind Gu Xiyi, feeling frustrated. They had been walking for over an hour. The path through the forest was rugged and difficult for her to walk, let alone Gu Xiyi. But Gu Xiyi’s stamina was surprisingly good; she was only just starting to get tired after walking for so long.
Seeing Gu Xiyi resting on a rock, drenched in sweat, Mo Beiyi was about to suggest carrying her when a sense of danger suddenly rose in her heart. Her heightened senses told her that someone was coming.
A crisp dragon roar sounded along with the gunshot.
The scorching flame flew right in front of the Federation soldier. He tried to dodge, but he didn’t know where to go and could only watch as the incredibly hot flame hit him.
He didn’t even have time to scream. The powerful explosion had already destroyed half of his body. With his remaining eye, he saw a horrifying black monster walk toward him.
The tranquilizer gun in his hand was also blown to pieces.
The soldier fell backward, his chest rising and falling more slowly.
“Do you have any medicine?” he heard the monster’s voice, frantic. Its beautiful golden eyes stared straight at him as if deciding where to start eating him.
“Mon… monster…” The feeling of suffocation grew stronger, and the soldier’s consciousness became blurry. He looked at the Imperial person not far away. The intense hatred made him reach for a bottle hidden behind his waist with his last ounce of strength and pry it open.
“Hey, hey, don’t close your eyes!” Mo Beiyi was so anxious she was on the verge of tears. She had only wanted to protect Gu Xiyi, not to kill this person.
But as she looked at the soldier’s red and black Federation uniform, she heard another voice in her mind.
Anyone who tries to hurt the female lead deserves to die!
You just wanted to protect Gu Xiyi.
