The Evil Dragon Only Wants to Survive (Lily ABO) - Chapter 12
Mo Beiyi looked more dejected than ever.
Gu Xiyi sighed, cupped the dragon’s lowered head, and looked directly into its big golden eyes. “Don’t be sad. The Empire and the Federation are mortal enemies. If you hadn’t killed him, he would have killed us.”
But… Mo Beiyi was forced to look at Gu Xiyi. She suddenly realized, why is the female lead so calm?
There was no time for her to think. The sound of hurried footsteps echoed in the distance, a clear sign that their location had been compromised. The footsteps were coming from the edge of the forest, forcing them to flee deeper into the woods, in the opposite direction of the village.
They were lucky. The front line was still in a heated battle, and there wasn’t much advanced equipment on Azure Star. The commanders didn’t have the resources to waste on two “small fish.”
Thanks to the years of environmental protection, the tall, broadleaf forest served as natural cover. Mo Beiyi carried Gu Xiyi and moved quickly through the woods. Her streamlined body and sharp reflexes made her at home in the forest, and she skillfully flew through the trees.
Mo Beiyi didn’t dare fly into the sky again. There were likely satellites watching them, or they wouldn’t have been found so quickly.
The black dragon quickly swept through the trees, startling countless birds. This ancient, rarely-traveled forest was just too complex. The Federation soldiers hadn’t expected the two of them to be so fast and didn’t bring any specialized equipment, so they quickly lost track of them.
“Keep a close eye on this forest for me. I don’t believe they’ll never come out.”
This was the largest and most primitive forest on Azure Star, with an area of over six million square kilometers. If they sent soldiers to search, it would take a lifetime. With the front lines stretched thin, there weren’t enough resources to waste on a couple of kids.
The Azure Star commander frowned, remembering the soldiers’ report of a “dragon.” It was probably an Imperial experiment. It was enough to just keep an eye on it. What was more important now was the situation on the front line. He estimated that more troops would be drawn from Azure Star in the next two days.
This clash between the two nations was more intense than expected. The Empire’s counterattack was fiercer than any before. Although the sneak attack had given them a huge advantage, the outcome was still unpredictable.
Of course, Mo Beiyi and Gu Xiyi were completely unaware of this.
Ever since she transmigrated, Mo Beiyi had never felt so exhilarated. The gentle breeze in the forest flowed over her body, and every place she passed, the leaves of the trees swayed. She knew they had already shaken off their pursuers, but the joy of flapping her wings was so pure that she didn’t want to stop.
The deep part of this primitive forest was a continuous mountain range. Mo Beiyi didn’t know how long she had been flying until Gu Xiyi patted her wing, and she finally decided to stop.
Although Mo Beiyi had been careful to protect Gu Xiyi, the constant wind had made her face a little pale.
Gu Xiyi didn’t feel better until her feet were on solid ground and she had rested for a while. She didn’t scold Mo Beiyi, feeling relieved that Mo Beiyi wasn’t sad about what happened earlier.
“Oh, right,” Mo Beiyi suddenly said.
“Did you… um… smell a really strong scent?”
“A really strong scent?” Now that Mo Beiyi mentioned it, Gu Xiyi did remember something. After Mo Beiyi killed the soldier, she thought she had smelled a very faint floral scent.
But since the situation was urgent, Gu Xiyi just assumed it was a flower blooming in the forest and didn’t pay much attention to it.
“Yeah, it’s like… it’s like…” Mo Beiyi hesitated. Gu Xiyi looked confused, and she wondered if it was appropriate to say what she was about to say.
“It’s like the smell of pheromones.”
But that soldier was a Beta.
“Pheromones?” Gu Xiyi was stunned. She instinctively touched the back of her neck, confirming that her suppressor patch was still there. She was about to let out a sigh of relief when her expression suddenly changed.
If the scent wasn’t hers or Mo Beiyi’s, and it came from that Beta soldier… Gu Xiyi thought of another dangerous possibility.
The mountains were shrouded in white fog, so they didn’t have to worry about satellites.
At the foot of the mountain was a large lake. This place, untouched by human influence, was full of life. There were many unfamiliar birds playing and foraging on the lake, and various wild animals were drinking water on the shore.
And a very out-of-place black dragon.
Gu Xiyi saw Mo Beiyi trying to lower her neck to drink water. She took a big gulp, then tried to lift her head to drink it, but most of the water just flowed out of the corners of her mouth, soaking her neck in the process. Mo Beiyi let out two annoyed grunts.
Maybe it was the dragon’s natural intimidation, or maybe it was the animals’ fear of this unfamiliar creature, but for dozens of meters around them, there were no animals. Even a black swan that had landed nearby quickly squawked and flew away.
Maybe I’m overthinking it. That kind of biochemical product should have been phased out long ago.
“Are you not going to turn back?”
Gu Xiyi walked over to Mo Beiyi, squatted down, cupped some water in her hands, and washed her face. She also stopped Mo Beiyi’s foolish attempt to drink the lake water. Although the water looked clean, drinking it directly could easily make them sick.
“Uh… It’s not safe here,” Mo Beiyi said, pointing into the distance. Gu Xiyi followed her finger, and after looking for a while, she saw a large leopard hiding in a tree.
Of course, Mo Beiyi wouldn’t say that she just didn’t want to turn back. Ever since she returned to her original form and entered this forest, she had no desire to turn back. It wasn’t just about feeling free; it was more like a primal call.
She had only been in her human form for the sake of disguise in the human world. Now, in this uninhabited place, she no longer had to worry.
However, Mo Beiyi hadn’t expected to adapt so quickly to the strange idea that she was “not a person.”
But she was incredibly thirsty now. Ever since she breathed fire earlier, her throat had been dry. Even though her mouth was producing saliva, it was still uncomfortably dry.
She shook her head, looking at the small animals that had been scared away. Suddenly, she felt not only very thirsty but also very hot.
But it was cool just a moment ago.
She turned to look at Gu Xiyi, who was squatting beside her, and saw water dripping from her face.
Mo Beiyi’s throat suddenly tightened.
