The Exiled Knight Takes Up Life as an Adventurer — A Former Captain's Secret Power and His Carefree Days in a Distant Land - Chapter 9
I headed over to the guild’s storage room and picked up a woven gathering basket.
Then I returned home to gear up.
Even if it’s just a gathering quest, there’s always a chance of encountering wild beasts or monsters out in the forest.
I strapped on my favorite light armor—made from the exoskeleton of a venomous D-rank monster known as Aroprela the Poison Centipede.
It’s affordable, yet tough, making it a popular material for lower-ranked adventurers.
I had it painted red to suit my taste—and I liked the way it turned out.
At my left hip, I secured my longsword.
Around my waist, I fastened the belt holding my gathering dagger, Cortello.
Both the sword and the armor came from the equipment shop run by Sig-Nine, the Adventurers’ Guild’s proud development branch.
Great quality for the price.
And finally, on my right hip, I hung my thread spool—Raphil.
“Alright, time to head out.”
I slung the gathering basket over my back and left the house.
My destination: Kaen Forest, a few Kidelts away from town.
“If I don’t earn some coin, I can’t afford good food…”
Humming to myself, I strolled down the town road.
“Mardin. You look cheerful today. Off somewhere?”
“Yeah, I’m on a quest. Heading to Kaen Forest to collect medicinal herbs.”
It was old man Arajji, a retired fisherman, who called out to me.
These days, he lived a peaceful life, fishing at his own pace.
And as you’d expect from a seasoned fisherman, the man was ridiculously skilled. Sometimes, he shared his catch with me.
“I see. This time of year, White Grapefruit, Torhi, is especially good.”
“I’ll be collecting some Torhi too.”
“Is that so? Would you mind picking some for me as well?”
“Sure thing. You’ve been sharing fish with me, after all.”
“Hohoho, you’re always welcome to more.”
“I appreciate it. I can’t fish at all, so it really helps.”
“I’ll teach you sometime.”
“Oh? Looking forward to it. Alright, I’m off.”
“Be careful out there.”
“Will do!”
After parting ways with the old man, I set off toward the forest.
