- Chapter 13 - Variety Show Begins — Wait, Did You Two Really Break Up...?
Staring at Xie Zhixin in front of him, Guan Jinnian suddenly felt a bit dazed.
It had been a long time since he spent time with Xie Zhixin like this—without any negative emotions.
Guan Jinnian didn’t know whether joining the variety show was the right decision, or what the ultimate outcome would be between them.
But at this moment, his heart pounding in his chest told him—he didn’t hate this sense of the unknown.
“What are you thinking about?” Xie Zhixin noticed the change in Guan Jinnian’s expression, pleasantly surprised to find that he seemed much more relaxed toward him.
Pulled out of his thoughts by Xie Zhixin’s voice, Guan Jinnian only then realized that the other man was still leaning over him—their faces were very close.
“Nothing.” He didn’t want Xie Zhixin to see through his true thoughts. Lifting his arm, he tried to push him away.
But after a deep sleep—and still feeling the aftereffects of the drug from yesterday—Guan Jinnian’s limbs were weak, and his arm lacked strength. Instead, he lifted his leg, trying to nudge Xie Zhixin off with his knee.
As he moved, his leg bumped into a certain hard object—clearly felt even through the blanket.
Guan Jinnian froze, stunned. Once he realized what he had touched, he stiffened completely and didn’t dare move again.
Xie Zhixin hadn’t expected his own embarrassing state to be exposed like this—he’d been trying to stay still, waiting for it to subside.
“Hurry up and get off!” Guan Jinnian hissed in embarrassment, his face bright red.
Xie Zhixin stayed silent for a few seconds, then replied honestly, “I can’t. It’ll be obvious.”
“Then how do you make it go down?!”
“Wait a bit. It’ll pass.”
“……”
After nearly ten minutes—each second feeling like an eternity—Xie Zhixin finally pulled his hands back and straightened up.
Guan Jinnian couldn’t help glancing down. Through the pants, the small tent was still faintly visible.
His gaze darted away like it had been electrocuted.
“Get some rest. I’ll go take care of those things,” Xie Zhixin said after a few deep breaths. He grabbed a coat to cover his front, and quickly left the hospital room.
Click—the door closed behind him.
Guan Jinnian stared blankly at the ceiling, the image replaying in his mind. Then suddenly, he yanked the blanket over his head and curled up underneath it.
…
That afternoon, after being discharged from the hospital, Xie Zhixin drove Guan Jinnian to the airport.
He booked the earliest flight and returned home.
Over the next few days, Guan Jinnian continued filming and livestreaming. As usual, Xie Zhixin stayed in the live chat, waiting for him to go live.
Maybe because his identity had already been exposed, he stopped hiding and openly showered Guan Jinnian with gifts, even answering questions from the chat—but only if:
[Happy New Year: One answer per 100 orders.]
Netizens were dumbfounded.
[Bro, you really know how to do sales…]
[Not pretending to be the silent top supporter anymore, huh?]
[What happened? Suddenly you’re not hiding? Aren’t you scared your “Wife Nian” will block you? LOL]
[Maybe “Wife Nian” already knew. Like the rest of us—knew, but didn’t say.]
Then came another flashy, golden comment from Xie Zhixin:
[Happy New Year: He’s not your wife.]
Everyone cracked up and started teasing him.
[So what? I’ll still call him that. Unlike someone, who can’t even say it out loud~]
[Wife wife wife wife wife—]
Guan Jinnian held back a laugh, watching the fans tease Xie Zhixin across the screen. After a while, he stepped in to end the chaos.
“Alright, thanks everyone for your orders. Our persimmons are additive-free, clean, healthy, and delicious. Please enjoy with peace of mind.”
Thanks to Xie Zhixin’s help, orders bounced back to pre-scandal levels. Some of Xie’s fans, just to support him, bought tons of products—so much that Guan Jinnian had to remind everyone:
“Thanks for your support, but please consume responsibly—buy what you need and avoid food waste.”
[Don’t tell me what to do—I’ll gift them! So what?]
[Ugh. Who said I was supporting you…]
[Exactly. We’re here for Xie-ge, don’t get cocky.]
Though Xie Zhixin’s fans were snarky, they were polite compared to earlier hate comments. Guan Jinnian didn’t mind—at least things were selling.
Outside the livestream, netizens were also closely watching the upcoming variety show, The Reunion Plan.
Discussion was everywhere—the show was already going viral even before airing.
Guan Jinnian’s past scandals were dug up again, and though controversy remained, the tide was no longer one-sided.
Some people refused to believe Xie Zhixin’s public defense of Guan Jinnian, and continued painting him as a villain.
[Xie’s clearly an idiot—he only sees that little sweetheart of his. Wonder how he’s gonna baby him on camera.]
[Guan Jinnian’s an actor. All he has to do is fake it, throw in some mental illness sob story, and he’s golden. Y’all eat that crap up.]
[It’s a livestream. No way he can act 24/7. He’s bound to slip eventually.]
The couple shippers didn’t argue—they just quietly steered discussions, posting fan art and edits to lure in casual viewers.
[Broken mirror mended is eternal! If you ship Happy New Year, you’ll be well-fed!]
[Don’t miss out! Come join and get the latest sugar! Tagging: @HappyNewYearGotBackTogetherToday?]
[Happy New Year is the trend. Get on board now and start enjoying the ride!]
And so, with endless anticipation, The Reunion Plan was about to begin.
Guan Jinnian packed his bags and headed to the filming location.
The first shoot took place in a small southern town.
The production sent a car to pick him up. It was a long trip, and they finally arrived in the evening.
Filming would begin the next morning. Tonight, all the guests stayed at the hotel.
Guan Jinnian was about to sleep when Xie Zhixin came knocking.
“What is it?” he yawned, leaning against the doorframe lazily.
“Jinnian, during filming—if there’s anything I do that makes you uncomfortable, please tell me. I’ll fix it.”
Xie Zhixin looked sincere and focused.
“…Got it. Go rest now,” Guan Jinnian replied, a bit awkwardly surprised by his seriousness.
“Thank you for giving me a chance,” Xie Zhixin said before turning away, “Good night.”
He left without saying anything unnecessary.
Guan Jinnian stood at the doorway, watching his back in silence. After a while, he lowered his gaze and went back in.

The next day, 9 a.m.
The variety show went live.
The moment the livestream opened, over six million viewers flooded in.
The comment section went wild.
[It’s on!!!]
[Finally! I’ve been waiting so long!!]
[Time for sugarrrr!!]
[Here to see what kind of person Guan Jinnian really is.]
“So lively!”
The host, well-known personality Mr. Wang, appeared on screen.
“Good morning, everyone! I’m your old friend, Wang Yue. Looks like everyone’s excited for The Reunion Plan.”
Wang Yue waved the envelope in his hand and showed it to the camera.
“Let’s not keep you waiting. Here’s our first task of the day,” he said cheerfully. “Mission 1: Wake-Up Call.”
“Please go to your partner’s room and wake them up using the method you used back when you were dating.”
[An exes’ wake-up service? Won’t this end with someone getting kicked across the room?]
[So they just go straight into each other’s rooms? LOL]
[Who’s going—Guan Jinnian or Xie Zhixin? Hurry and switch the camera!!!]
“The guests are dressed and ready to go!”
The livestream then split into four screens.
Viewers could watch all four at once or click to focus on just one.
Most viewers chose Guan Jinnian’s room.
—
He was greeting the camera.
Having received the mission the night before, he got up early and got ready. The cameraman arrived just after.
“Hi everyone, I’m Guan Jinnian,” he said with a smile.
[Aaaahhh my baby Jinnian!!]
[So it’s him doing the wake-up call. Can’t wait to see Xie Zhixin’s reaction lol.]
[Hurry up!! I wanna see top-tier bedhead!!]
“I received the mission to wake up Xie Zhixin, and I’m heading to his room now,” Guan Jinnian said as he walked, camera following.
He used
