Chapter 21: The Early Onset of Estrus Period.
Ruan Siyi felt a buzzing in her head, her thoughts coming to a complete standstill at that moment.
The beauty’s eyes were filled with love as if scattered with starlight. Dressed in a red fishtail off-shoulder gown, her graceful figure swayed gently, her exposed skin as clear and luminous as jade. Unbidden, it reminded one of the goddess from The Ode to the Divine Woman, radiant as flowers, warm as polished jade.
It made her heart flutter with unease.
Was it the suspension bridge effect?
The heartbeat right now…
The terrifying images from earlier were still vivid in her mind. Ruan Siyi’s heart had yet to recover from the earlier tension, but now it felt as though it was being teased by the swaying, dazzling red hem of the dress, pumping bright red bl00d outward with each beat. Even the capillaries branching from her arteries carried the scent and hue unique to Fu Ru’an.
“Sister Fu…”
Ruan Siyi’s heart swelled and pounded, her mind a blank slate. That familiar yet unfamiliar sensation welled up vaguely within her.
Someone’s phone rang in the venue, its short, rapid vibrations syncing with her heartbeat for a fleeting moment, resonating and trembling together.
[Wow! This scene! If it were me, I’d have been moved to tears already! Actress Fu is just too suave!]
[Is Little Ruan looking a bit dazed? Hahaha! She hasn’t even processed it yet!!]
[So much for the aloof actress… Fu Ru’an, don’t be too obvious with your love…]
While Ruan Siyi was still lost in thought, Fu Ru’an had already stepped closer, her warm lips brushing against her ear, teasing her earlobe with an intimate touch.
“Why are you spacing out? Baby…”
Before she could finish, she was suddenly pulled into a slightly cool embrace.
Dr. Ruan’s clothes still carried the chilling air from the “haunted house,” her hands equally cold.
One hand pressed firmly against Fu Ru’an’s neck, the fingertips applying a heavy yet restrained gentleness.
Fu Ru’an, held tightly by her, instinctively leaned slightly toward her.
Her grip loosened, and the butterfly flower bucket in Fu Ru’an’s hand nearly fell, causing her heart to skip a beat:
“It’s going to drop.”
“It won’t.”
Ruan Siyi responded softly.
The draft in the hallway lifted a strand of hair by Fu Ru’an’s ear, brushing against Ruan Siyi’s slightly reddened nose.
Ruan Siyi tilted her head slightly, her free hand catching the flower bucket while her lips caught that long strand of black hair, kissing it gently.
“Mmm—”
Fu Ru’an could only let out a short, stifled sound before the remaining noises were swallowed entirely by the Alpha, not a single one escaping.
Even the collision of lovers’ lips was secretive, their moist tongues pushing and pulling like the rising and setting of the moon, the ebb and flow of tides. The dampened corners of their eyes flushed red, like sun-colored eyeshadow, casting golden flecks of moisture in their pupils, soaking in the lingering intimacy.
The hand gripping the back of her neck couldn’t bear to exert force, so the Alpha’s boundless strength had to vent through the blue-and-purple paper butterfly container in her hand. The vessel was squeezed tightly, yet it still managed to bear the force, protecting the fragile beauty within.
Fu Ru’an pressed close to Ruan Siyi, as if all reason had dissolved in the other’s scorching breath.
The faint glimmer in Ruan Siyi’s eyes resembled a flowing galaxy, carrying panic and an inexplicable palpitation, as though she had found some semblance of belonging in her disorientation.
Her lips parted slightly, panting as she looked down at the person in her arms.
The noise around them, the gasps and cheers of the crowd, seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the scent of the person in her arms enveloping her completely, utterly.
Her fingertips still rested on Fu Ru’an’s neck, the cool touch contrasting sharply with the other’s body temperature, making her feel irresistibly immersed.
[Holy cow! Little Ruan’s reaction! So Alpha!]
[A hair kiss! My heart is pounding just watching—so sweet!]
[Even while kissing, she didn’t forget to catch the origami her wife carefully prepared! Sniffles, this pure love warrior is slain!]
Fu Ru’an took Ruan Siyi’s hand, smiling as the two walked toward the large cake at the center of the long table.
The adorable chibi figures on the cake made Ruan Siyi blush. She took a soft breath, as if still recovering from the sudden kiss earlier, but her fingers were subtly squeezed by Fu Ru’an.
[Ahhh! Actress Fu is leading Little Ruan to cut the cake! I could cry, it’s too sweet!]
[This scene is straight out of a romance novel!]
Fu Ru’an picked up the knife, gesturing for Ruan Siyi to join her in cutting the cake.
The light cast on her face, the red dress enhancing her stunning beauty. As the cake was sliced, applause and cheers erupted around them, confetti and balloons filling the air, the atmosphere electric.
Amid the excitement, director Ai Ke quietly approached.
“Little Ruan~”
Her smile was bright and enthusiastic, her eyes carrying a hint of something inscrutable.
Ruan Siyi looked at her, puzzled.
Then Ai Ke pulled out a golden, gleaming key card from her pocket and, in full view of everyone, slipped it into Ruan Siyi’s shirt pocket.
Ruan Siyi: “!”
“Director Ai!” She widened her eyes, sternly refusing. “I’m a married woman—I won’t accept any under-the-table dealings!”
Ai Ke: “…………”
A swift knock landed on Little Ruan’s head.
“What are you thinking?!”
Ai Ke stole a glance at Duo Ke before turning back to the hopeless girl.
“This is sponsored by the show’s benefactor—the presidential suite at Xihe Hotel, a five-star hotel! A gift to celebrate your third anniversary!!”
[HAHAHAHAHAHA! Little Ruan’s thought process is something else!]
[She really went there with the key card—benefactor mom coming in clutch (evil laugh)]
Ruan Siyi froze, staring down at the golden key card, her face quickly flushing red.
The card in her pocket seemed to grow hotter, her ears burning as she shyly glanced at Fu Ru’an.
Fu Ru’an, seeing Ruan Siyi’s reddened face, couldn’t help but chuckle softly. She reached out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear, whispering,
“Ruan Ruan, you’re not thinking of refusing, are you? It’s someone’s kind gesture, after all.”
Ruan Siyi jerked her head up, stammering,
“N-no, I just… I just thought it’s a bit… too…”
Her voice trailed off, lips moving soundlessly.
“Go on, go on!” Ai Ke urged gleefully.
She nudged Ruan Siyi, pushing her right up against Fu Ru’an.
“Don’t dawdle. You’ve had a long day—go get some proper rest.”
Producer Duo Ke winked suggestively. “Are you sure they won’t be more tired after?”
Ai Ke: “Shh—”
She smiled warmly, waving to the live audience.
“Alright, that’s a wrap for Episode 2 of Heartbeat Signal: As Always! See you all next time, viewers~”
With that, the livestream cut off abruptly, leaving fans staring at a black screen, howling in protest.
As Ruan Siyi was led by Fu Ru’an into the grand lobby of Xihe Hotel, the opulence momentarily stunned her.
A magnificent chandelier hung in the center of the lobby, its soft, warm light casting a dreamlike glow. The polished marble floor, with its dark veins and delicate gold inlays, reflected the light like a starry sky underfoot.
The hallway lights dimmed slightly, adding a sense of privacy. The plush red carpet beneath them, adorned with intricate patterns, made each step feel like part of an extravagant ceremony.
Ruan Siyi gazed at the golden reliefs on the walls, their intricate carvings exuding a vintage yet luxurious charm.
“Such thoughtful decor,” she couldn’t help but murmur.
“It doesn’t feel cold and impersonal like other hotels. The owner must’ve put real heart into this.”
Fu Ru’an’s eyes cooled, a scoff escaping her lips.
“What’s the point of thoughtfulness? The person’s gone. This is all just superficial.”
Ruan Siyi was startled by her sudden coldness.
Then it hit her—the hotel’s name.
“Xihe.”
Wasn’t that a combination of Fu Ru’an’s mother and mom’s names?
Fu Yunxi. Shen Jinhe.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She knew Fu Ru’an’s relationship with her Alpha mother was strained, but she hadn’t realized her late Omega mother was part of the reason.
So this key card… was it from Fu Ru’an’s mother?
Why?
Didn’t Fu Yunxi despise her?
Ruan Siyi fell silent.
Quickening her pace, she caught up to Fu Ru’an and casually took her hand.
She laced their fingers together, holding tight as they entered the room.
After setting their things down, Fu Ru’an excused herself to shower first.
Ten minutes later.
A thud came from the bathroom.
Ruan Siyi rushed to the door, but before she could push it open, a rich, sweet aroma of Baileys wafted out—far stronger than anything she’d smelled before.
From inside, Fu Ru’an’s breathy voice, laced with a delicate whimper, called out:
“Ruan Ruan…”
“My estrus period… it seems to have come early.”
